I installed Dirt 3 on my computer, but couldn't launch it. All I got was a black screen and nothing more. If I launch task manager, I will get an error message saying that a problem has caused the .exe file to stop working.

I was on the edge of being driven crazy by this problem, when I found its cause. Apparently the reason was Freetrack that I had installed on my system. Codemaster is in collaboration with Natural Point. So they made their Dirt 3 stop running on computers with Freetrack installed.

What a strategy! Now in my eyes, Natural Point is plain shameless and repulsive. I now regret buying their products. Having this sort of company in the simulation business might bring something shiny in the short term, but is definitely harmful in the long run.

I say: boycott Natural Point!

Shame on you, Natural Point! All the more shame falls on you if you ever go out of business.

What makes this even more stupid is the fact that Codemaster did this without telling people. People who weren't patient enough to find the cause will blame no other but Codemaster themselves. How stupid. And for those who were, no bad feeling about Freetrack: only that Natural Point and Codemaster look repulsive and shameful now.

Um.....

Can you confirm this???

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.

So if you don't run freetrack will it not run??? If you're not running freetrack I can't imagine Natural Point or Codemasters would bother to initiate a "sensor sweep" of the system detecting an unrunning freetrack and therefore not running the program. It all seems a little bit excessive, especially if you've paid full price for the game. Natural Point most definitely does not have that kind of power with companies.

Anyway just expressing my doubt to your diagnosis, I feel there is most likely something else causing the issue. (If not, sorry for my skepticism).

All the best in figuring it out.

I feel the same way about natural point after using freetrack for sometime, however they do have the best product for the job, so I finally caved in.

The fact is that I couldn't run the game with Freetrack installed. I don't have Freetrack running in the background. I simply have it on my HDD. Once I uninstall Freetrack, I was able to run Dirt 3 with no problem. No system restart was necessary.

I am obviously not the only one experiencing this, as I learnt the method from someone before me.

Do you remember seeing a petition on the webpage of Freetrack? If not, this might remind you of it. Do you now think that Natural Point, as a monopoly in this business, has some sort of power?

This thread is a joke, right ?

If you don't have something meaningful to say, I have no problem with you not posting at all.

This appears to be a big with Dirt or FT. Google it.
