cichlidfan Posted June 11, 2012 Posted June 11, 2012 (edited) It appears to be in limbo currently. Posted 3-18-2012 *** Important information regarding the Fighter Ops Project *** We have had some important news in the past 24 hours which will have an effect on the progress of the Fighter Ops project. Unfortunately due to personal and financial considerations, our lead programmer is forced to take an extended leave of absence from the project. Area 51 members will find a more detailed statement in their forums, we sincerely thank those who have chosen to take up Area 51 membership, it has been of great assistance to the project. In light of the current situation, I would advise any forum member who is thinking about joining Area 51 specifically to get updates, screenshots, videos etc to not do so. For those who still choose to support the project in this manner, we can assure that the funds are put to good use and will assist in not only keeping our infrastructure operational, but will form a small part of the solution to the financial side of the issue. The Fighter Ops team have been going strong for quite a number of years now, we have been through just about everything the world could throw at us, twice over. In the grand scheme of things, this is something which is much more manageable than some of the other issues which have cropped up over the years, largely due to the professional and dignified manner our team member has dealt with the issue. Without a doubt this is a set-back, however we will get through this period and we will come out stronger and we will continue until the true next generation of flight simulations is set to take flight. mmaruda Posted June 11, 2012 Posted June 11, 2012 That is old news. The common opinion of those who tracked the project is that it's vapourware if not a scam all together. Fighter Ops has been around for years and not a single video of a playable build was ever shown. Instead there was promises of the greatest sim ever and the mysterious Area 51 to get money from naive enthusiasts.

Shaman Posted June 12, 2012 Posted June 12, 2012 (edited) Who cares, we have DCS that outperforms everything. Let me say it again but correct - DCS PWNS EVERYSIM! Nevada is getting ready. Several new flyables in fast development, including trainer jet. I have truly forgotten about FighterOps until ended up checking this thread. I am saddened with news of their lead programmer abandoning project. Best course for rest of the team is to leave engine code on the shelf, quit reinventing the wheel. Instead jump on new platform. I mean jump on DCS WORLD band-wagon of course. This way FighterOps may save their current assets by developing their T-38 as trainer jet addon. FIGHTEROPS T-38 TALON I'd be happy to see such subforum in 3rd Party Projects forum here :) Buckshot if you are reading this, don't let T-38 be forgotten again, change your priorities and business model now. FO was never a scam...I and many other people worked VERY hard on the project, producing very real content. I devoted almost 2 years working full-time on FO, so it chaps my ass when people pretend that that FO is/was fake. I have no idea about the current state of things, but from late 2007 to late 2009, development was very active. I have plenty of reasons to be upset with the FO project management, so you can take the fact that I'm still willing to defend the developers and the project as reasonable proof that its not a scam. Everything is never as it seems to be. People pretend it was a scam because they spent money on it. But that's not a valid reason. THEY decided to. They trusted the project and invested on it. That's the price to pay. EDIT: so, yea people, try to not end up quickly with some conclusions.

WE ARE GETTING OLDER! Dude thats a feckin good idea, XSi should do that as both T38C and T6 would rock in DCS. I think XSis plans were quite good and they still have the potential to finish FO so making addons for DCS is not such a bad idea. DCS World is quite similar to what XSi were trying to do with FO a modular sim engine which could have many complex aircraft added to it. The big thing FO had over everything though is IFF which as far as I am aware DCS does not have modeled to that level of detail but Tacpac will.(otherwise the CWIS will shoot you down:D) [sIGPIC] [/sIGPIC]

Shaman Posted June 13, 2012 Posted June 13, 2012 (edited) .... Ten years later............. Typical attitude of my fellow country man used to observe tenders for infrastructure projects in Poland ;) SUB17, I know you are very active VRS and XSI forum member. I read your posts almost daily for years. Please reach Buckshot and make him at least to come here and make a market research how their T-38 addon would sell. Regarding IFF, I do not care whether T-38 or any other DCS fighter will have more detailed IFF then what I am used from FC2. I do believe DCS can be expended in future with a 3rd party library module that will simulate scripted IFF to more interesting and playable degree then we have now in FC2. Proof that impossible is possible is VRS and what they have done so far with their own external code that interfaces with FSX. PS. Talon was the only aircraft I took in a flightsim round the world!
