EVGA GTX 670 2GB = WOW!

Recommended Posts

Hey guys...

Just bought GTX 670 2GB. First thing I did was load up A-10C, pumped all the graphics to the teets, and started up a mission.

All I have to say is WOW! Well, I have more to say than that. I'm getting a steady 60FPS at ground level and a steady 60FPS during most of the mission. This was always an issue wth GTX 460.

The only time the FPS dropped down to about 35-45 FPS when using TGP in IR modes. With the field of view zoomed out and looking at a city, the FPS did dip down to 25 occasionally. But it was still very smooth. That is still amazing FPS considering all the settings are so high. Everything is maxed out, even the clutter and trees. I'm very pleased with performance and for the price ($420 CDN).

It was this video card or Warthog HOTAS. It was a tough decision, but in the end, I realized I didn't feel like learning a new HOTAS for all the flight sims I'm flying right now. That will be next purchase though.

BTW, running A-10C on 27" Asus LED monitor @ 1920 x 1080. I have Sandy Bridge doing 4.8Ghz as well, so both CPU and Vid card seem to be a great combo for DCS.

Now it's time to load up the Shark !!

Skyrim, Arma2 and BF3 should look top notch as well. :-)

Just got an EVGA GTX 670 FTW myself. Getting ridiculously good performance in all games so far. Went from a SLI - GTX 460 setup to a single GTX 670. With the boost clock it is running up to 1188 MHz on stock settings (full load) and in benchmarks it rivals a SLI - GTX 580 configuration. That's saying a lot, since the GTX 580 is a beast in itself! It also runs relatively quiet and only gets up to about 67 Celsius for me under the most intense games I've thrown at it so far.

I'm running many NVIDIA settings on high via the control panel such as 16x CSAA, 8x supersampling and other settings on quality and still get 60-80 fps in BF3 with everything set to 'Ultra'. DCS: P-51 ran around 55 fps with the same settings and maxed out settings in the options (including TSSAA and jazz).

FYI, EVGA's FTW Edition of the 670 is identical to their GTX 680 reference card (the 680 baseline model) with the only difference being 1344 CUDA cores vs. 1536 CUDA cores. The 670 shares the same circuit board as the 680...

Main difference = over $100 cheaper. Can't go wrong, phenomenal performance for the money and you're essentially getting 680 benchmarks for the price of a 670! So far I'm very happy with my GTX 670!

Grats grats!

I was looking to upgrade from my ATi 5850, you guys think it would be a big performance gain or should I wait for the next gen of cards? Oh and I have an Intel i5-750 @ 3.8Ghz, I'm worried it would bottleneck it.

Very true. $100 cheaper and performance is almost on par with 680.

Problem is if you want to go 3-monitor setup (I like do one day) the 2GB wont be enough. Otherwise, for 1 monitor 670 does DCS great.

Hmm. I think someone with more ATi experiance would know. My last ATI card was Rage Pro 8MB

I have a 3dFX voodoo if interested... A-10 cuba works like a charm, so F/A-18 Korea.

seriously, no one will say the truth when comparing ATI to Nvidia. somme will say Ati drivers sucks, Nvidia overheat, etc..

I don’t care, i burned my Ati X1900XT, my Nvidia 8800GT, and now i’m still with this good old 4890. i’m maxing out almost everything in HD, but DCS. :D

Same issue even if you buy a 680 (as they also come with 2GB). SLI, tri-, and quad-SLI is the answer! ;)

So you think 2xGTX 670 2GB in SLI would be better than 1xGTX 670 4GB for triple monitor setup?

depends...

if you lack VRAM, having 2/3/4 2gb card won't do a difference compare to a 4gb card as the memory is only shared in SLI/XFire.

If you have enough VRAM, but lack FPS, than SLI/tri-SLI is the way to go

I see. Well, I think to solve this is to have 4GB models in Triple SLI :-) Done. hehehe.

Very nice! Arma2 is the only sim I haven't tried yet. I need to download it again. It's very CPU and GPU hungry. I hope Arma3 performs well with GTX 600 series.

Jumping from my HD5850 to the GTX670 pretty much doubled all my frame rates in BS, so I was a happy bunny about my purchase too. :)

Yup. It looks like technology has finally caught up to the game engine. Just about the right time to release a new engine, so we can reset all the back to the beginning.

Thanks Lawndart! I tried that guide and managed to OC. I did notice improvement right away!

Great to hear! I'll be spending some time this week tweaking mine. What version of EVGA's GTX 670 do you have, and if you don't mind what max boost freq did you manage (and under what boost clock offset did this OC run without thermal throttling taking place)? Just looking for a comparison...

I have a GTX 670 FTW.
