Ripcord Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 I searched and didn't see any mention of this in other threads..... seems that we have functioning landmines in the mission editor! Kinda getting back into DCS A-10C again after a few months, and I've been perusing the mission editor, looking for new items that might have been added with the 1.1.1.1 patch. Lo and behold, I spot this fixed structure in the list, one that I didn't remember seeing from before -- a landmine! Is this indeed something new, or was it always there? So OK, I'll be honest, it did not even occur to me right away that it would be a functioning item that actually explodes... I'm thinking, wow, this would be cool, to use it with a trigger and make it explode when an enemy unit runs over - probably use a mini 2 meter area trigger or somthing like that. Then it occured to me that it might already work, just as is. Hmmm.... So I test it out and sure enough - boom. Smoking hole where the APC ran over it. No triggers or smoke or mirrors or slight of hand required. It just works! That is very cool.... definately would be an interesting wrinkle in a mission or campaign. 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
cichlidfan Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 Cool. Nice find. Haven't poked around in there in quite a while myself. I can think of several things to do with that without even considering CA. ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Hero, i7-6700K, Noctua NH-D14 Cooler, Crucial 32GB DDR4 2133, Samsung 950 Pro NVMe 256GB, Samsung EVO 250GB & 500GB SSD, 2TB Caviar Black, Zotac GTX 1080 AMP! Extreme 8GB, Corsair HX1000i, Phillips BDM4065UC 40" 4k monitor, VX2258 TouchScreen, TIR 5 w/ProClip, TM Warthog, VKB Gladiator Pro, Saitek X56, et. al., MFG Crosswind Pedals #1199, VolairSim Pit, Rift CV1

159th_Viper Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 Is this indeed something new, or was it always there? Aye - always been there. Always has been a good way to teach pilots a lesson in a MP server when you politely request that they do not land at a specific airbase and they ignore the brief/fail to listen :music_whistling: :D Novice or Veteran looking for an alternative MP career? You know, I see that it was in FC2 as well. Never noticed it before. Very cool. And yes, this is going to VERY relevant in DCS: CA!! Aye - always been there. Always has been a good way to teach pilots a lesson in a MP server when you politely request that they do not land at a specific airbase and they ignore the brief/fail to listen Well alrighty then! That is another ME application that I'd not considered! Just goes to you show what you can find when you really dig into this thing. Great stuff, thanks guys! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Krebs20 Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 A side note. Place 300 on a runway and order a tank to drive down that runway. It will crash your client. But you will get a SFX of BOOM!!! and CTD Or if your lucky. You spaced them and they chain down the runway. Lots of BOOMS! Then it crashes the client. Always made me laugh. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

gunterlund21 Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 Now here is a question. Can you place mines dynamically in a mission via a LUA script that is executed at a waypoint lets say. So as a vehicle drives along mines are place every 3 seconds for 10 second. Now that would be cool. I wish I know lua scripting better. Any resources? I was in Art of the Kill D#@ it!!!!

These are not mobile objects, they are structures. So not sure if you can activate them, the way you can a GROUP or a UNIT. In fact, I don't think you can, just looking at the ME. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

KosPilot Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 I hope there is an option in DCS:CA to put up some barbed wire and signs stating "DANGER, MINES" with a skull painted on it :D It would be another sad war story if wandering into you own mine field!
JCamel Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 (edited) How do you get this 1.1.1.1 patch? LOL, just checked, it's there, landmines. Another cool thing to do if you're playing with the editor is to get a ship to use it's AK-130 gun on tanks or artillery by firing at it. Serious rate of fire for a 130mm gun! Edited July 10, 2012 by JCamel If the telegraph pole takes off after you, it is not a telegraph pole.
