Tailgate Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 Coming back from a mission and landing at Kutaisi , first time I've ever got a flat on the mains. Not sure what caused it, on speed and about 3 fps descent, no damage, but anyhow it was good to see. Is this something new in 1.2.0.0?
CAT_101st Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 no not new. If you took some AA hits, a bullit can flaten your tire.. Tailgate Posted July 16, 2012 Author Posted July 16, 2012 (edited) Funny, I've never seen an actual flat tire in 1.1.1.1, when I took damage, it was always just the strut without the tire. Maybe I've been flying all this time in 1.1.1.1 with missing damage textures, interesting. Edited July 16, 2012 by Tailgate
Hamblue Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 Consider yourself lucky to not have been hit before now. I've returned with 2 of 3 tires flat. When you land just let it drift off of the runway. Then start the APU and shut down the engines. After 4 mins the tires will return and you can taxi to re-arm and refuel Asus Sabertooth P67 Motherboard 2600k CPU, 16 gig DDR3, 1600. Tailgate Posted July 16, 2012 Author Posted July 16, 2012 No, I've been hit before, I guess I was missing the flat tire objects and textures.
Username455 Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 I noticed this too, got a flat on landing after just flying around. Different than being hit and the tire missing. It actually sounded like a flat tire as I coasted down the runway and drifted slightly to the left. When I get shot at and it blows out a tire, you hear screeching and you dramatically veer off to the side. GripenNG Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 I don´t know if flat tires are implemented in the Random System Failures. But anyway you got a flat tire for some reason - just as in real life. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Snooze-81st-vFS

I think the flat tire and sounds are new in 1.2.0.0, and maybe it's my imagination ,but I also noticed that the cockpit shaking is a little different and more realistic with the flat. I'll try to reproduce it by landing a little hard. btw, I have random failures off.
B25Mitch Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 I was in a multiplayer server last night and blew a tire while cornering too fast on the taxiway. It's a good feature - discourages people from driving recklessly:thumbup:

V1P3R Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 (edited) You certainly can take tire damage, I was performing a mission about 20 nm north of Batumi when I took AAA fire for a ZU-23 to both of my back struts, they can become damaged very easily due to the fact they are open to the environment unlike the front strut. In a situation like this it's a good idea to peform a belly landing, make sure to jettison your munitions before doing so. Come in with full flaps and full speed brake and don't forget to flare, it's not as exaggerated as a normal landing due to the fact you're not worried about putting all of the weight of the aircraft on the front strut since you're not landing on any but it does help decrease airspeed the last second which is good if you don't want to go flying across the runway. After you assist physics in making a controlled crash and you've come to a halt turn on your APU and APU Gen(so you dont lose electronics and have to re-cal your CDU and all that) kill engines and wait for repairs. Then start engines back up like normal. I've had many experiences with faulty landing gear, the worst is gear that wont retract or extract fully, then you have a real issue.
