Rongor Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 On wikipedia I read that JTRS has to be regarded as an unfinished development that never reached the troops and is discontinued now. How is it to understand having JTRS inside our A-10C?
MTFDarkEagle Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 DCS A-10C does not have JTRS, it has SADL. So why's the switch labeled JTRS, and not SADL? Lukas - "TIN TIN" - 9th Shrek Air Strike Squadron TIN TIN's Cockpit thread
Eddie Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 Because it is based on the real jet, and the switch was labelled JTRS in anticipation of the aircraft receiving JTRS in a later suite.
MTFDarkEagle Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 OK - cool. Is this changed in the real aircraft? Or going to be changed? Lukas - "TIN TIN" - 9th Shrek Air Strike Squadron TIN TIN's Cockpit thread
Kaiza Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 I guess you are referring to the JTRS switch? It doesn't power a JTRS system as such, just the SADL as Eddie has said. I don't know but I suspect the switch was named with future proofing in mind, anticipating that SINCGARS, HAVE QUICK etc would all eventually be replaced with JTRS but never happened. Eddie Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 (edited) OK - cool. Is this changed in the real aircraft? Or going to be changed? No, why would they? Apart from simmers nobody cares. Edited August 6, 2012 by Eddie
Rongor Posted August 6, 2012 Author Posted August 6, 2012 Well, nice to know and to have this one cleared. Thanks! :)
badger66 Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 No, why would they? Apart from simmers nobody cares. From working on aircraft for many years , I would be surprised if they didnt change it , as they can get very finiky about small tape such as this , especially in the military .
Eddie Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 (edited) From working on aircraft for many years , I would be surprised if they didnt change it , as they can get very finiky about small tape such as this , especially in the military . Well, you best be surprised then, because it still says JTRS in current suite 7 aircraft. Maybe it will be changed, eventually, but equally it may not be. Trust me us military types are FAR less picky than most simmers, there are generally more important things to worry about than a switch label not being technically correct. AlphaOneSix Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 The AH-64A had several switches for an "IRIS" system that was never installed. But those switches were in the aircraft for nearly 20 years.
