S77th-konkussion Posted October 28, 2005 Posted October 28, 2005 Game runs very badly after a while- so I'm thinking I'll need to reinstall... Utilize registry tool Uninstall, & remove folder Remove starforce Lomac CD FC (downloaded version) 1.11 patch? Sound about right? The 2 fixes released after FC. Do I need them? I don't know how to use the registry thing at the moment, but I'll handle it. Speculation- however well intended- is not needed or helpful, thanks. bflagg Posted October 28, 2005 Posted October 28, 2005 you don't need to install those two small patches... the bigger patch has them already. don't forget to uninstall Loman/Modman also (backup your addons folder then just copy them back after it's reinstall) Thanks, Brett
504 Wolverine Posted October 28, 2005 Posted October 28, 2005 Sounds about right. This is how I installed when the patch was released. 1, Utilize registry tool 2, Uninstalled and erased folder 3, Used starforce removal tool (but said that there was no drivers on my system looks like removal tool is built into unistaller) 4, Installed LO-ACS (LO-MAC) 5, Installed FC (D/L) + Seasons pack & Video pack 6, Double clicked the registry setting that tool saved. 7, Ran 1.1 then exited 8, installed 1.11 patch Sorted. :D You could leave out No 7 but I was making sure that registry setting was correct. You don't need the stutter hotfix or LOD fix, these are built into the 1.11 patch. Good luck.
504 Wolverine Posted October 28, 2005 Posted October 28, 2005 don't forget to uninstall Loman/Modman also Don't think that it is really necessary; when you run modman after fresh install it should recognise that it is a fresh install and write the appropriate back-up files. But of course doing it wouldn't hurt either.
S77th-konkussion Posted October 28, 2005 Author Posted October 28, 2005 Thank you. I'll get on it tonight. I'm experiencing massive slowdowns in MP, and the only thing that is consistent about them is that migs are in the room. Hopefully this will clean everything up a bit and improve the play. Pilotasso Posted October 28, 2005 Posted October 28, 2005 Be sure NOT to load custom ultra high res skins, these can be FPS killers on many cards. And onother thing...1.11 patch added the missiong cocpit reflections. If you were used to that in 1.1 you can swich them off and have a 10FPS boost. .
enigma6584 Posted October 28, 2005 Posted October 28, 2005 Also, perhaps obvious...but don't forget to defrag your drive before you reinstall.

Is it not true the default skin of the Mig 29 S is 2048 x 2048? My suspicion is that some of these skins are the cause of the slowdowns, and that is a pity. It's a shame that a silly skin (or any single item, for that matter) can wreak havoc in the first place, but it'd be nice if these things could be kept out of play by the host. Gazehound Posted October 28, 2005 Posted October 28, 2005 Trying to unistall (then reinstall) the lot as well. When I run uninstall.exe from the lockon folder, select YES to remove Starforce - I get "Uninstall.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." Is that the right uninstaller to use? VVS504 Red Hammers
S77th-GOYA Posted October 28, 2005 Posted October 28, 2005 Don't forget to backup your Input folder and any other tweaked file you don't want to have to do again. For example, altered default cockpit views, any sound mods you have installed can be reinstalled by copying your current Sounds folder and swapping it with the new one. The F-15 skin is bigger than the MiG skin and doesn't cause nearly as many problems. Still no answer as to why MiGs are such frame killers.
S77th-RYKE Posted October 28, 2005 Posted October 28, 2005 The accumulation of briefing pages seems a big problem too... we need an app that would reset the darn thing to "0" every 30 minutes , is that possible ? S77th-konkussion Posted October 29, 2005 Author Posted October 29, 2005 Well the reinstall went mostly very well- Unfortunately the first mission I jumped in was night, so the frames were obviously better anyway. But I am confident that the game is running much smoother even with the advantages of night not considered. Full graphics w/mirrors medium produced 30 's on the ground, 50's to 60 in the air and 70's looking straight up. Most importantly- I noted no slowdowns as the night went on. The registry tool didnt work, as far as I can tell. It asked me if I wanted to save my reg data before uninstalling, I did. I ran through the process, and ran the utility prior to patching to 1.11 it says it was done successfully, but it certainly did use an activation. (13 left) Not a big deal to me right now- but maybe step by step instructions is in order for the benefit of others eh? You double click the saved reg file once you have installed FC, and before you run it. That is, if you can manage to uninstall in the first place :) VVS504 Red Hammers
