Hey,

As it is now, if I start the game and change sound output device (say from speakers to headset), start TrackIR, connect my joystick, or anything that has to do with input or output devices, the game has to be restarted in order to see the change.

This is really annoying, and should be supported by the game.

I haven't come across ANY game, or application for that matter that supports that.

Agreed. Change the order of your operations.

I can imagine that you forget to turn on TrackIR for once and that you have to exit and reload the sim to get it going but why on earth would you unplug your shit to plug it back in the next time you want to fly? Just keep it plugged in or reverse the order, plug everything in and then start your sim.

(Or do you unplug everything, dust it off, seal them and stow them away somewhere secure and safe until the next flight when you pull them out of their cover, bring on some wax to make it shine, start your computer, start the sim and then oeps... forgot to plug them in...:D )

Win11 Pro 64-bit, Ryzen 5800X3D, Corsair H115i, Gigabyte X570S UD, EVGA 3080Ti XC3 Ultra 12GB, 64 GB DDR4 G.Skill 3600. Monitors: LG 27GL850-B27 2560x1440 + Samsung SyncMaster 2443 1920x1200, HOTAS: Warthog with Virpil WarBRD base, MFG Crosswind pedals, TrackIR4, Rift-S, Elgato Streamdeck XL.

Personal Wish List: A6 Intruder, Vietnam theater, decent ATC module, better VR performance!

Really, guys? It's quite common these days in many applications, and is what to be expected.

At least the controls should refresh once you enter controls options.

I don't know about you, but I usually switch between speakers and headset all the time, and often forget to switch to my headset before starting the game so that TIR works and I can hear my squadron in TS. Also, I don't unplug TIR, I just never start up the application until I'm gonna use it for games.

Name 3 games that support this.

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.

I don't really see why you want to argument against it. It's really only going in one direction, and that is improving the general quality of the game.

An analogy to your argumentation would be something like this: "Why do we need hydrogen fuel cell propulsion in automobiles? Pff. Name three cars that do this..." It's moronic, of course. I hope you see my point.

Your three games: Left for Dead, Minecraft, ARMA2. (Quite popular titles, I'm amazed you have not played any of them.)

Ok...

I would also like to see the possibility of changing controls options while in-game. I have lost count over how many times I had to quit a game I am hosting just so I can change my controls.

Regarding changing control options while in-game, this would be nice and you can be certain the devs would like this too, but it would unfortunately require a good bit of under-the-hood-work. And by a good bit, I really do mean a lot.

That would mean having one .EXE

It can be annoying but once I've done the control set up dance of 20 odd restarts I normally not go back to it.

True, usually i'm done in only like 5 restarts orso for all modules.

Being KA-50, A10C, SU-25T and the P-51D

So yes, i would agree being able to set up in game would be more convenient, but given the large amount of work required for that i rather see them spend the time elsewhere.

(bug fixes for example, on SAM sites, HINT:P)

As an aside, anyone using a HOTAS with keyboard emulation, such as the Saiteks, already is able to change mappings while in flight through using the profiler.

Ah, I understand. Like many things in software engineering, simple features are often more intricated to implement than one would often think. However, I am sure it will become a feature sooner or later. :)

Yeah, it does annoy me too, but I eventually learned my "routine". (Though I sometimes ignore it and run without TIR, usually in cases where I'm just hopping in to quickly test something. No need for TIR then, and if test is successful then TIR does cause the tracks to become orders of magnitude larger due to having to store all that fluid viewport data.)
