incognito Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 Hi, I'm new to this sim, and I would like to know if there is any way to use the mouse as a joystick? I know its not the norm, but it's what I am used to. Thx in advance.
Yurgon Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 Hi, I'm new to this sim, and I would like to know if there is any way to use the mouse as a joystick? I know its not the norm, but it's what I am used to. Thx in advance. I don't think so. In the game's controls, the option to assign the mouse to any of the flight control axes or the nose up/nose down commands is not available, so I'd say there's no "out-of-the-box" way to do it, but I don't know if there are any tools that can make it happen. Then again, even the cheapest joystick will give you so much more immersion than a mouse, so IMO you should go for it (or if possible invest into a HOTAS combo like the Saitek X52 which gives a lot of bang for the buck).
incognito Posted October 29, 2012 Author Posted October 29, 2012 I was hoping that I wouldn't Have to buy one. Most I see are relatively expensive.

Where are you located and what would you consider not too expensive? Perhaps we can come up with something. EDIT: There are plenty of people playing with a pretty basic stick. chaotikchiken Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 I was hoping that I wouldn't Have to buy one. Most I see are relatively expensive. I've been using the Thrustmaster T1600 for this game primarily since late last year and it's a pretty basic inexpensive joystick. I know it runs sub-$50 and one day I hope to upgrade. It's something to start out with and see how you like the game and what not. EddieMuntz Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 I use a Thrustmaster Hotas X, and use a xbox 360 controller for the additional buttons, the joysticks dont work but the additional buttons are mapped to Hotas controls such as Countermeasures, radio and pinky. i use the select and start buttons as modifiers aswell therefore increasing the commands even edited the hotas key commands pdf in photoshop with the controller added so i never forget. So if you have a controller lying around then utilise it. Im sure it looks clumsy but it works until i find 250 quid down the back of sofa so i can splash out on a TM Hotas Warthog. I look at all owners with green envious eyes lol
Dethmagnetic Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 Here's a good basic joystick - it's only $23 from Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Extreme-Joystick-Silver-Black/dp/B00009OY9U. It has a throttle and twist control for rudder, and a decent number of buttons. I have one that I use for Battlefield 3 and other games where a HOTAS/rudder pedals is overkill, and I have no complaints. incognito Posted October 30, 2012 Author Posted October 30, 2012 Thanks for all the replies. That would have been nice to get away using an Xbox 360 controller since I do have those laying around. I have enough clutter, and trying to access a joystick, mouse, and keyboards seems like a pain.
Hogwash Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 It's a flight sim - a stick is pretty much essential. You'd be cheating yourself using anything else. :)
Purg Posted November 1, 2012 Posted November 1, 2012 I think it would be sensory overload having mouse to control the aircraft as well as using it within the clickable cockpit.
EtherealN Posted November 1, 2012 Posted November 1, 2012 Also note that as long as you've mapped controls sensibly, you'll have very little work to do wit hthe mouse in the pit. Goal should always be to achieve "HOTAS" (Hands On Throttle And Stick) operation, which is possible even without a "real" HOTAS setup through using custom modifiers.
