Huhn Posted November 10, 2005 Posted November 10, 2005 how do i get the russian rocket artillery to fire at their targets? the mlrs does it without any problems.
S77th-GOYA Posted November 10, 2005 Posted November 10, 2005 I just built a mission with grads and saw no problems. Have you assigned targets to them? Are they in range?
504 Wolverine Posted November 10, 2005 Posted November 10, 2005 Also an important one. are they at the right angle to fire? Check the encyclopedia for the angle limits. [/url]
Trident Posted November 10, 2005 Posted November 10, 2005 Another point to consider about range is not only maximum but also minimum ballistic range. Place it inside that distance to the target and the launcher will be physically incapable of hitting it and thus won't fire. This is particularly important with the Smerch, the minimum range of which covers the better part of the Grad's maximum reach (i.e. placing a Smerch where a Grad used to be for engaging the same target may not work)! Place Smerchs about 40km from their target and they should do fine.
Dusty Rhodes Posted November 11, 2005 Posted November 11, 2005 Put a Russian AWACS plane in the mission and they will fire long range. If there is no AWACS then they will only fire if the target is line of sight. Dusty Rhodes Play HARD, Play FAIR, Play TO WIN Win 7 Professional 64 Bit / Intel i7 4790 Devils Canyon, 4.0 GIG /ASUS Maximus VII Formula Motherboard/ ASUS GTX 1080 8 GB/ 32 Gigs of RAM / Thrustmaster HOTAS Warthog / TrackIR 5 / 2 Cougar MFD's / Saitek Combat Pedals/ DSD Button Box FLT-1
Brit_Radar_Dude Posted November 11, 2005 Posted November 11, 2005 As well as the max and min range considerations mentioned above, Smerch and Grad will not fire over the driver's cab (and thus bbq the poor driver!). They need to be placed so that the launcher rotates left/right toward the target, but they can only rotate about 45 deg(?) maximum, so need careful placement..... Yellonet Posted November 11, 2005 Posted November 11, 2005 Put a Russian AWACS plane in the mission and they will fire long range. If there is no AWACS then they will only fire if the target is line of sight. So the AWACS have a ground radar? i7-2600k@4GHz, 8GB, R9 280X 3GB, SSD, HOTAS WH, Pro Flight Combat Pedals, TIR5
Trident Posted November 11, 2005 Posted November 11, 2005 Not really, it's a workaround for not having E-8 JOINTSTARS in the sim, I suppose.
Huhn Posted November 19, 2005 Author Posted November 19, 2005 As well as the max and min range considerations mentioned above, Smerch and Grad will not fire over the driver's cab (and thus bbq the poor driver!). Brit_Radar_Dude Posted November 20, 2005 Posted November 20, 2005 Guessed it probably would be Huhn, it bugged the h*ll out of me until I figured it out last year........... [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Sorry Death, you lose! It was Professor Plum....
Prophet_169th Posted November 21, 2005 Posted November 21, 2005 Where can we get the information about the min/max range, and which units need an offset to fire? I have looked in the encyclopedia nothing for artillery. Sure is hit and miss while making a mission. A lot more testing than should be necessary.
Ironhand Posted November 21, 2005 Posted November 21, 2005 Where can we get the information about the min/max range, and which units need an offset to fire? I have looked in the encyclopedia nothing for artillery. Sure is hit and miss while making a mission. A lot more testing than should be necessary. Most of it's in the Encyclopedia, I guess. Just have to read carefully and realize that the info for the vehicle and what it fires is usually in two different places. For example, the Smerch: Under Vehicles: Smerch Type: Multiple Rocket System 9A52 Crew: 4 Caliber: 300 mm Number of tubes: 12 Armament: 9M55K solid propellant rocket Rate of fire: 12 rds/38-40 s Time into action: 3 min Time out of action: 3 min Elevation: 0-55° Traverse: 30° left and right Configuration: 8x8 Combat weight: 43700 kg Length: 12.1 m Width: 3.05 m Height: 3.05 m Ground clearance: 0.44 m Engine: V-12 diesel 518 hp Max road speed: 60 km/h Fuel distance (road): 850 km Then looking up 9M55K under Weapons: 9M55K Name: 9M55K solid propellant rocket Type: Smerch-launched rocket Developed: Russia Weight, kg: 800 Length, m: 5,5 Body diameter, m: 0.3 TNT equivalent, kg: 55.8 Speed, km/h: 2988 Range, km: 70 Not convenient perhaps but there is logic informing how entries are made. Huhn Posted November 21, 2005 Author Posted November 21, 2005 Put a Russian AWACS plane in the mission and they will fire long range. If there is no AWACS then they will only fire if the target is line of sight. There is no need to put an AWACS on the map. The smerch fires always if angles and distances are in the limits. I found a page with detailed information about russian weapon systems. http://warfare.ru/?catalog=true Have a look what kind of projectiles are available for Grad and Smerch. Very interesting!

Rich Smerch is the only one, try finding that for artillery.
Brit_Radar_Dude Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 Prophet - see this link for some artillery range info http://forum.lockon.ru/showthread.php?t=8476 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Sorry Death, you lose! It was Professor Plum....
