Mt5_Roie Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 So it seems now that we have FC3 with radar equiped aircraft we would be able to scan the air for long ranges. But it seems like the radar doesn't seem to pick up anything beyond 40 miles out. Sort of like how the TGP can only scan to about 40 miles out and below. So is this a limit in the DCS World, or is there some setting we can modify to extend the range? Coder - Oculus Rift Guy - Court Jester
Kalahari Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 If been able to pick up targets at 80 km at least in RWS. System Specs : Processor ; Intel®Core i7-3930 CPU@ 3.20GHz. RAM -16.0 GB Type-64bit GPU-GTX 970 Never eject over a village you've just bombed - US Marines Gen.
Mt5_Roie Posted November 10, 2012 Author Posted November 10, 2012 Well 80km is about 50 miles out. But not sure if RWR uses something different then radar or TGP. Coder - Oculus Rift Guy - Court Jester
Nate--IRL-- Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 RWS not RWR. RWS = Range while Scan mode for the radar. Nate Ka-50 AutoPilot/stabilisation system description and operation by IvanK- Essential Reading
Mt5_Roie Posted November 10, 2012 Author Posted November 10, 2012 Sorry misread that....your right RWS is a radar mode. I'll do some more testing tonight. But I'm looking to try to find a target at about 100 miles out of a mission I"m working on. Shouldn't that be possible with the F-15 radar? Coder - Oculus Rift Guy - Court Jester
Nate--IRL-- Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 Depends on the target size. But 100miles is a stretch, it might be possible using the radars frequency attenuation for target aspect. If the target is flying toward you and you are using the HI setting you may see it. Nate Ka-50 AutoPilot/stabilisation system description and operation by IvanK- Essential Reading
Frostie Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 Radar ranges seem to be pretty much the same as FC2, easily picking up fighter size contacts at 60nm. 100nm, maybe larger aircraft yes, but not fighters. Also remember these aircraft must be coming towards you, against aircraft moving away from you the radar acquisition range is greatly reduced. "[51☭] FROSTIE" #55 'Red 5'. Ironhand Posted November 11, 2012 Posted November 11, 2012 Sorry misread that....your right RWS is a radar mode. I'll do some more testing tonight. But I'm looking to try to find a target at about 100 miles out of a mission I"m working on. Shouldn't that be possible with the F-15 radar? About 95 nm for a large aircraft (cargo type) head on. Less, if it's only heading in your general direction. With military aircraft, you'll most likely "see" their jammer before you can actually see them on the VSD after burn through.
