SafetyTurtle Posted November 19, 2012 Author Posted November 19, 2012 A newbie forum would be an excellent idea, no doubt! Also a way to gather tons of questions in one place for new players like me ^^
shagrat Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 (edited) you may also want to consider the DCS Wiki... look at the top header for the link. Maybe FAQ like collection of newcomer related topics. We may link to wiki pages from the forum for convenience. Advantage will be, more people can add or update on the same topic. Forum requires the original poster or an admin to update or correct a post. Just an idea. :D EDIT: have a look here http://en.wiki.eagle.ru/wiki/DCS_A-10C_Guides,_Tutorials_and_Reference_Documents Edited November 20, 2012 by shagrat Shagrat - Flying Sims since 1984 - Win 10 | i5 10600K@4.1GHz | 64GB | GeForce RTX 3090 - Asus VG34VQL1B | TrackIR5 | Simshaker & Jetseat | VPForce Rhino Base & VIRPIL T50 CM2 Stick on 200mm curved extension | VIRPIL T50 CM2 Throttle | VPC Rotor TCS Plus/Apache64 Grip | MFG Crosswind Rudder Pedals | WW Top Gun MIP | a hand made AHCP | 2x Elgato StreamDeck (Buttons galore)
Aerthorn Posted November 22, 2012 Posted November 22, 2012 Hi Guys, First time poster, 3 day "DCS:A-10c'er" (? lol)... Wow. I'm totally going to be addicted to these forums as much as the sim... Luckily i have an ipad with the 600+ page manual on it and a 40 min train ride too and from work to study. Just thought i would introduce myself here rather than start another thread as this seems to be where the newbies are hanging out at the moment. Currently running e8400 C2D at 3.8GHZ, 4GB 1066 Ram, ATI 4870. Surprisingly the game runs fine at relatively high settings. I have a Logitech Extreme 3d Pro Stick (groan) and a 22 Inch HD Monitor. Not ideal but still having fun, plan on spending a few hours getting my Tracker NoIr working tonight to free up my hat switch. I was a bit down hearted about the stick I have until I saw some great mappings including all the modifiers and print out diagrams, so am now reinvigorated and cant wait to get home and stare blankly at my screen when I realise its harder than I thought, and cant wait for the reward when i finally figure out what to do. Im in Melbourne Australia and am a complete newb. Cannot even get the plane off the ground confidently yet but have had a decent fly around and play with the cannon (yay!) Anyway thats all from me, just thought i would introduce as I will have many questions :) Nathan

Anyway thats all from me, just thought i would introduce as I will have many questions :) Nathan Welcome Aerthorn!! You'll quickly find that the people here are awesome resources for technical advice, general questions, and just being all around 'good people'!! You're not learning alone, as there seems to be plenty of us! It's an incredible Sim with a steep learning curve (if you haven't already noticed), but really addictive, as are the forums here!! By best "newbie to newbie" advice at this point, would be what I've discovered helps me the most. Learn a step, learn it again and again, practice it, and when it's locked into the brain, chalk that up as yet another small victory!! Then, the more tiny steps you make, the more gratifying those small accomplishments become!! Stack up enough of them, and you'll find yourself getting closer and closer to becoming a real A-10C Sim Pilot!!! Good Luck, and hopefully, many of us newbies will be hitting the skies together soon!!! Matz 1 AMD FX8350 @ 4.2Ghz x 8, Asus M5A99FX Pro UEFI Board, 16Gb RAM @1600Mhz, EVGA GTX660 2Gb DDR5, 120Gig Corsair SSD SATA3 Boot Drive, Dual Corsair SSD FORCE 60Gig for gaming, TM Warthog HOTAS and Cougars, Saitek Proflight Pedals, TrackIR 5 w/Pro Clip, and WAY Too much time on my hands. :pilotfly:
shagrat Posted November 22, 2012 Posted November 22, 2012 Welcome to the forums, Aerthorn! Matz is right, lots of ressources and helpful guys around here. Follow his advice, take it slow. It will take time to learn the Hog. Just grab it regularly for a ride. Don't underestimate the flying/familiarization part. Most of the time you are required to Fly that plane like you ride a bike or walk :D So often just fly, train the standard maneuvers and get a feel for the plane. My personal "Ahaaa!" moment was when I saw a track from Viper or etherealN where he executed a perfect Split-S... with the Control-axis Monitor active I could see I always put too much force in the Stick when pulling back. Gently roll her over, let her fall into the dive, gently pull back... then it worked. I quickly got the hang of it and that was during beta times, when updates often changed the flight model  So again welcome, enjoy this awesome Sim and post your questions as they come. ...though sometimes you'll get a friendly RTFM with the page no. for an answer. Yurgon Posted November 23, 2012 Posted November 23, 2012 A newbie forum would be an excellent idea, no doubt! Also a way to gather tons of questions in one place for new players like me ^^ I like the idea and opened a new thread yesterday: Request Sub-Forum DCS: A-10C Warthog: For new pilots. So far, that's just a bunch of questions and suggestions. I haven't received any feedback yet, but it might help the case if you guys follow it up over there. :)
