bkthunder Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 Not sure where / who to ask this to. I purchased DCS P-51 when it was still in beta. I thought the outlook was good back then, but I think the final version doesn't live up to the expectations of a very detailed and realistic P-51 sim. The feeling of being there, well, just isn't there. This is my personal opinion of course. I feel my 40 bucks could be better invested somewhere else, if there is a chance for a refund. Let me know how to proceed. Thanks. Windows 10 - Intel i7 7700K 4.2 Ghz (no OC) - Asus Strix GTX 1080 8Gb - 16GB DDR4 (3000 MHz) - SSD 500GB + WD Black FZEX 1TB 6Gb/s

Echo38 Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 I think the final version doesn't live up to the expectations of a very detailed and realistic P-51 sim. Wow. And people call me fussy.
Jona33 Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 I assume he just doesn't like the setting (fair enough that). I doubt you can fault the aircraft itself. Always remember. I don't have a clue what I'm doing
Echo38 Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 If he's talking about the setting, then he should have said "WWII sim." This is an almost impeccable P-51 sim; it only fails if you're looking for a Second World War flight sim instead of a P-51 sim. Sure, we've still got a few problems, but even putting aside the constant improvements that the team is working on, it's already angels ten over anything else.
Blarney Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 "The feeling of being there, well, just isn't there." ????? I'm on the other end of this experience. I get totally immersed in flying it, especially low altitude, between buildings, under bridges, tight corners around hills... Shadows rolling through the cockpit, monitoring coolant temperature, airspeed, aiming for that perfectly smooth landing... TrackIR does help a lot though. 486DX w/turbo button
bkthunder Posted December 6, 2012 Author Posted December 6, 2012 As I said, this is my opinion. You disagree? Fair enough. I have stated precisely why this mustang doesn't do it for me, in other threads and through PM with the devs. I'm a RL pilot, haven't flown a mustang yet, but I guess a few thousand hours in piston aircraft should give me a fair perspective on what "being there" means. NONE of the engine stuff you are talking about works in my installation. It never did, and it never does no matter how many times I reinstall. I can start a cold engine, slam the throttle into WEP and fly into the yonder with carb heat on and unfiltered ram air. No problem, not a single sign of engine stress. No smoke, no weird sounds. Nothing at all. BTW, not taking into account that since DSCW I can't even use it without a CTD or a powerpoint presentation whenever someone drops a bomb. Now, unless some of you guys feel like paying for my mustang too, I'd like to hope my ticket gets answered at least (it's more than a week old). BUMP! Echo38 Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 A'ight, the man has a point: although I fervently disagree with his assessment, there really isn't much point arguing about it.

Well, as for me, i don't need a refund but i can't say i'm thrilled either. It might be an almost impeccable P-51 sim, the immersion of the P-51 goes down the drain in the modern world it has to fly in. See it as putting the A-10C into Rise Of Flight. It's an almost impeccable A-10C sim but it will be totally misplaced there. So the same goes for the P-51. Nice but useless. PS: Can't wait until some 3th party gang put up some Wing Commander stuff in DCS World. Now that must be fun.... NOT. Win11 Pro 64-bit, Ryzen 5800X3D, Corsair H115i, Gigabyte X570S UD, EVGA 3080Ti XC3 Ultra 12GB, 64 GB DDR4 G.Skill 3600. Personal Wish List: A6 Intruder, Vietnam theater, decent ATC module, better VR performance!

PS: Can't wait until some 3th party gang put up some Wing Commander stuff in DCS World. Now that must be fun.... NOT. I know it's old news but I couldn't resist. First of all I hope the OP got the refund. It sounds like it was stuck in game mode or something. I have no problems making my P-51 make funny noises. On a more serious note, no one really needs to talk anyone into liking the sim. If you expect it to be exactly the same as flying a real bird well then there aren't too many commercial products out there that will do it for ya. As far as the comment above concerning the "setting" and how "useless" it is... well by that logic you must think it's useless for all of those restored P-51s out there to be flying around with no ammo. It's all about expectations I guess. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but some comments on here are just plain silly. I have a hard time even beginning to complain about dishing out 40 bucks for a high fidelity aircraft simulator in which the devs have spent countless hours building and tweaking. Not to mention the time spent entertaining the, in my opinion, unrealistic expectations some people have. THIS imo is why there has been such a drought in the flight sim genre. It'd be much easier for ED to make just another of the all too common arcade flyers and avoid these headaches. Thank god they didn't I'm off my soapbox now. Lange_666 Posted January 25, 2013 Posted January 25, 2013 I did not say that the P-51 was a bad product, i only said that it had nothing to do in the current DCS World environment, even how good and accurate it is simulated. My point is that you don't have any P-51's flying around in Afganistan either. They belong to another era. Would be nice though if ED came up a map/world and some other same era aircraft. And like i said, i don't need a refund. I still feel they've done a very nice job but it's like the F-18 in FSX.
