Hmm ok, and what about trying to unistall Freetrack and supress all the entries in the registry, because the Windows reinstall dance is annoying...

As for the new install: I wanted to do this for a longer time, but I always found a reason to avoid it ;)

But know I have a good reason to finally spit in my hands and update my laptop with a fresh OS.

Which entries in the registry do you mean in particular? I am not that familiar with the registry.

Before doing a new install I will give your last suggestion another try and change the input.lua back to its original state. Maybe that does it.

This evening I will know more.

Thanks so far!

Freetrack isnt tied to input.lua by any means. Access violation error u're getting is connected to FT/PS3 eye driver communication.

Cleaning up registry of all ft and cl driver keys migh do some good here...

I hope u will solve this soon and u will save those 200euros :)

If you really want to reinstall the OS, do it, that will be lethal^^. But if you know how to delete all the traces left by a software in the registry, then you can solve most of your issues. I know even when I use Unistall Tool to check the registry, there's still some keys in the registry and I have to supress it manually.

So unistall your Freetrack and drivers with all the dependencies.

Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER -> software, then check for files called freetrack and your webcam driver and delete it.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> software (and even wow6432node)

Also, check C:/Program Data, there could be persistent files (I don't think so with FT)

Be careful with the registry, don't supress something only suspicious, be sure of the files! I cannot be responsible if you crash your system following my instructions. (I feel like a lawyer lol) If you only stay in the software files, the risks are really minimal.

For your PS3 Eye driver, I strongly recommend you Driver Sweeper, it will delete everything for you and it's free ofc.

Some peoples can find this as a DIY method but that's the way I find (I don't trust the cleaning softwares) to delete all the cr*p left by some annoying softwares (Arcsoft or songbird in particular!*flip table*), those registry files just avoid you to set all your settings back up after a software unistallation.

Hold on!

Yo, for uninstalling programs, I always use Revo Uninstaller, which works good, deleting all the according registry entries. I think it pretty good erases all traces that may be left when you only use the program-own uninstall.

I don't know how often I uninstalled and reinstalled FT 2.2 and the CLEye drivers until now - a lot!

Maybe this evening will bring a solution.

We'll see.

Hi Madone,

oh I am far beyond crying and meanwhile totally dehydrated, so crying isn't possible, anymore....haha.

Nah, I can cope with it. ;)

To answer your question: I even tried three different driver versions for CLEye. My stomach tells me that it isn't the cam. FT 2.1 has absolutely no problems with it. I could even choose between both cams without problems.

FTNoIR has also no problems with it. It is just friggin' FT2.2 that gives me the creeps.

Yesterday, I altered the input.lua to its original state, but still no luck.

I even installed the Sereby all-in-one runtimes for Win7. No success.

I will now go for a new install, no matter what.

If that fails, I will have to find anything with which I can blackmail my wife to get permission for buying TIR5, hehe.

Cheers!

SUCESS AT LAST!! :cheer3nc:

Installing Windows7 fresh and clean did the trick.

It turned out that Asus pre-installed a lot of crap on my laptop, which must have prevented FT2.2 to run.

Now it works --- Halleluja! It was a long way....

I already did a test flight and it works without flaws.

Now I will have to check out what is possible and what has to be done to have a smooth look inside the cockpit.

I will dig this forum for it, but if you have good suggestions and tips, feel free to advise.

Thanks a lot to all of you for your help!

Great it works!!!

Just be sure to set inputs for "Tracking - Center" and "Smoothing - Stable"...

...I set those two on the 3-position MODE switch on my Saitek X45 (center, normal, smooth) which are the autopilot settings at the same time in the simulator...

Hi Aries,

good hint, thanks!

I will look into it, once I have found a better filter for the cam. Developed film seems to be too dark, because I cannot see the leds in daylight.

I will try to get my hands on a floppy disc (not easy to retrieve as it is dead media...) and try that. I hope that I don't have to remove the IR-Filter from the cam...

Or maybe my leds are glowing too weak and I have to put in a smaller resistor.

BTW: I tried to check out the FT profile, you sent me (DCS A-10C PS3 Eye.ftp). I put it into the according FT folder, but once I click it, multiple error messages start to pop up. Is there a certrain "trick" to use it?

I'm glad it works fine now. Same advice than Aries about these 2 controls.

In your profile, don't forget to set the smoothness up for each movement, the zoom smoothing multiplier around 100 and the Average around 20% in advanced, I think that's some good settings to start with something "smooth".

AFAIK, there's no trick for your error, I've been able to use a profile from a guy using a PS3Eye, but finally my profile was so much better, do it in game, it differs from one player to the other... Just find the setting with the one you feel comfortable.

Four pages later the solution is a complete re-install of the OS?

This is why I bought a TrackIR. It just works. You don't have to screw around every time a new simulator comes out to get it to work. Still if you have time and no money it is the only game in town for free head tracking. Better than nothing certainly. Glad you got it working.

Hehe, if I had known that in advance, my first step would have been a new install of windows, or I would have bought a TIR from the beginning. But as I already put much time into planning and building the clip, I didn't want to give up.

Let's see the upside: Now FT works and I have a fresh OS without all that ASUS crap on it. ;)

About those controls to map: "Tracking - Center" and "Smoothing - Stable".

How do I do that? Do I click into the according field and then I click the according button on the stick or do I have to enter a key like "5" and then bind it to the stick in the ingame controls?

Thanks

Bexx0r

About Asus crap, are u talking about Asus Suite? I just unistalled this, it was holding my CPU to Idle frequency everytime (1.6Ghz) no matter what I did, after 2 weeks messing up inside my PC, i just unistalled this damn crap. *flip table*

Personally, I don't want to spend 180€ in a TIR if Freetrack is a satisfaction, not perfect but it works, Bexxor was an exception with this issue, most of the time, the difficult part is to fit Freetrack into the game, and for that, I blame all the devs which don't make any effort to implement it. Buying a TIR should be a choice, not an obligation, as some guys play with a home cockpit ... I play with a poor HOTAS. XD

About the controls, go to the controls Tab, "Tracking">Center (set whatever you want) personally it's on my keyboard, I've nothing on my hotas, then go to "Smoothing">Stable ans set an other key, that's 2 very useful controls.

EDIT : I miss your question ^^', if you assign a key in Freetrack, it will work in game, but if the same key is assigned in DCS, they will work together...

Also you have nothing to do with the Track IR control column in DCS, Freetrack operate independently.

With ASUS crap, I meant at least 10 different little applications, e.g. Life Frame, Virtual Camera, Fancy Start, and so on. Also a lot of Cyberlink stuff. I don't know what exactly prevented FT from working, but now it's gone.

Oh, PoleCat: I have more pro-TIR fodder for you, hehe: After applying the filter onto the cam, it does not recognize the leds, anymore. So there will be more fidddling until I am satisfied. ;-)

A new resistor will help, I guess.

Luckily, it's winter... Less. daylight

Yup... you have to remove the IR filter, (check what type of PS3Eye you have, theres two) and place a small piece of floppy disk inside...

This is how my filters are set and how my PS3Eye sees 3 TrackClip leds:

Oh man, I fear that Madone is right.

With my luck, I have the newer one where I have to crack out the filter... :hmm:

I will check when I'm home.

Thanks for your settings, Aries!

One more question about the FT settings:

As you know, I have a 3 point clip which is mounted to the right side of my headset. When I rotate my head to the right, I notice that it zooms out and when rotating to the left, it zooms in, which is logical, because turning left brings it nearer to the cam and vice versa.

Do you know how I can overcome that?

I suspect that it is in the clip position settings, but I don't know from where to where I have to measure.

I seem to remember that it says "center of head (just below the ear)" - or something similar.

So does this actually mean that I have to measure from ear to clip or rather from mouth to clip (that would be my interpretation of "center of head")?

Once again: Many thanks in advance

Cheers

I can't help you with the settings, I remember I just measured myself with a mirror, I don't think it's really important, be approximative.

Harr harr, I'm looking forward to prying open that little bugger. :crash:

According to the tutorial videos out there, the hardest part seems to be opening the housing - and getting out the filter, of course.

@Aries: Is there a certain reason why you let it track blue dots instead of red?

Bexxor, Aries sent a screenshot from the driver of the cam, not from freetrack... That's what you will see if you use your webcam on Skype for example, mine is more purple lol...

PS : he also set the balance on blue...
