SkateZilla Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 networking is a pain, but it's pretty much essential knowledge to anything outside of email and facebook. SkateZilla Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 Thats what making this item so vague. Appriciate your answer and thinking, but i never thought about plugging my computer directly into my (cable) modem. Reason .. my moden is downstairs.. i have to install a cable to plug my computer in directly in there.. loosing my connection to the router, thereby loosing the connection of the internet to the router and thus the computer of my son's room..... a bit far fetched, and th e reason i find this whole thing a failure for this game Setup your Router so your PC is in the DMZ, which puts your PC outside of the Routers DHCP and Firewall. which simulates a Direct Connection. P3CFE Posted December 18, 2012 Author Posted December 18, 2012 DMZ = De-Militairized Zone i presume.. (sorry ... joke), and i know that you are trying to help, but until now for every answer i get i have at least one question more. How do i get to the DMZ, can you tell me that ?
Frostie Posted December 19, 2012 Posted December 19, 2012 When i i want to get on line via internet with dcsd world i can choose a mission and the create a new serever .. it never said i shoold connect via IP, and so i did not.. only when it did not work we went to IP adress But it also says in the manual that you need to open port 10308 to host if you are behind a router. Go here http://portforward.com/routers.htm find your router make/model and game (Use DCS:Blackshark) and follow the instructions. This is standard procedure when hosting any game. For future reference go here http://www.whatsmyip.org/ to find out what your IP address is. Your home IP address will be at the very top of that page. The 192.x.x.x address you see in DCS is only used within your own home network. Everyone connected through a router has this in their home some have the same numbers as you, but nobody outside of your home will be able to use this number. Look at similarily to a hotel room phone number, these can only be used in that hotel (home network). "[51☭] FROSTIE" #55 'Red 5'. P3CFE Posted December 19, 2012 Author Posted December 19, 2012 But it also says in the manual that you need to open port 10308 to host if you are behind a router. Thanks again Frosty, for the clear explanation, i know now, the difference between the 192 and the WAN IP. The 10308 ports where and are open (forwarted and checkbox checked, so opened), but i'll check again. Thanks for the effort, and i'm gonna try all the given info maybe today allready (day off).
P3CFE Posted December 19, 2012 Author Posted December 19, 2012 Google your Router Model Number and Download the manual, Every Router is different. Oke.Skate..i will, and i'm gonna get in this router stuff a bit deeper, seems i have to:huh: One more strange thing i think is unexplainable, When whe triedout a session online the first time, my fellow pilot had created a session and hosted every thing was working as it should an we had a fun flight. The thing that is frustrating dat the next times whe did exactly de same thing and he never came visible into the server list anymore:doh:. So all the settings the first time must have been good, and the next........something changed, an we have to check and set al this router stuff:cry: And one last question to make sure: Do we have to rollback to an earlier version to be able to host, or not ? Appriciate, youre an others effort to axplaying this stuff, now it is my turn to solve it:smartass:
ED Team BIGNEWY Posted December 19, 2012 ED Team Posted December 19, 2012 I am using the latest version 1.2.2 and have no problems hosting I run from behind a router ( access point ) and a adsl modem with no problems. Ensure you are forwarding your ports as suggested. The problem will be your network setup, not DCS :) good luck Forum rules - DCS Crashing? When Forwarding ports it forwards to an IP for my router at least, it could remember and recognize a MAC theoretically but NVM for now. AFAIK only client and host need to be on the same version of world. Make sure you and your friend both have same game versions (bottom right, main menu) Its not complicated I think your getting yourself into a little mess. 1. Choose someone to host firstly. 2. Ensure your ports are open 10308 as mentioned on your router.***And set for that IP address of your computer, This will be the local IP btw*** For help with this google opening ports on XXX where XXX is your router. *only the hoster needs to open ports I.M.E.* 3. I wouldn't recommend bypassing your router simply because the issue is ports and its not a difficult thing to do. Dragging a huge cable is, as is re-installing windows.... 4. You don't need to know anyone's IPs on DCS world if its working it will appear in the server browser. 5. Open Multiplier. Find the server If you are hosting, Go new server. 6. Choose a mission and set the options make sure in the port field it says the port you have forwarded i.e. 10308 7. When you are sat in the lobby ask your friend to refresh the server list and see if yours is there. Note If you are over the internet i.e. your fiend is not in the same room/house as you don't choose LAN.. infact don't think about it for now Definitely don't host a LAN server Only when you are sat in the lobby as a game host or your friend is and your searching will you even be able to see the game. Really don't blame the game for this... DCS world has possibly one of the best PC to PC hosting systems. Ever tried hosting a Triple A Title Server... Dont compare to xbox and PS3 games because I dont even think they can host servers or at least not often and not in 90% of games. And they all use the same port that is set as on for default on all routers. GL
SkateZilla Posted December 19, 2012 Posted December 19, 2012 3. That's what DMZ is for. as for XBL/PSO, they use ports just like PC's do, the only difference is most manufacturers have a "XBOX LIVE/Game Mode" that automatically opens those ports And Yeah the Consoles can run Dedicated servers. and they are all set to default open. P3CFE Posted December 20, 2012 Author Posted December 20, 2012 everything online requires ports to be checked. Check to see if the Port is open and forwarded correctly to your pc.: http://portforward.com/help/portcheck.htm or http://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/ And Correctly Setup Port Forwarding on your Routers. http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/routerindex.htm Just for youre info, Skate. These sites helped me a lot, and i'm able now to host a session, ..great help :). The most eye opening fact was that i have to have a static IP adres to be able to Host. The only thing strange still, is the fact that my flying buddy, still is not visible on the server list ..when he is trying to host, while he has done exactly the same as me. Must be a fire wall or so, I'll sort it out.........merry Christmas Thanks a lot.
ENO Posted December 21, 2012 Posted December 21, 2012 Possible your buddy set the port on one router assigned IP and it may have switched on him... so while he was originally hosting on, say, 192.168.0.10 now the router may have reassigned the server computer to 192.168.0.17- UNLESS he did set it up as a static assigned address... in which case that isn't what happened. If you're sure that's good, then try direct connecting to his actual IP. google "whatismyip" (or get him to on his end) and enter that up address into your direct connect. (I think a couple guys already touched on that) Depending on what version you're using, it didn't used to work if he made a server that was "internet" and you tried direct connecting- it would only work when the host / server chose "LAN." It was tough because if you wanted to host an open game that everyone could join- you had to choose an "internet" server... but after about 30 minutes the server would drop off the list and people couldn't join on direct connect even if they tried. So then if people knew the IP, and could direct connect, you could choose a LAN server but nobody from outside who didn't know the game existed could join up. Of course, sometimes this is a good thing- because as I'm learning there's actually a pretty useless community of guys out there who are quite content to just join open servers and sh1t all over everyone. "ENO" Type in anger and you will make the greatest post you will ever regret. "Sweetest's" Military Aviation Art
