got it!

Soldered the two crippled brown cable-ends together (using the red wire from "dead-pin"). Put it all together and it works now. :joystick:

Hi Zahry,

got my replacement today, but ...

1.The new top cable was glued in the wrong direction.

2.The old cable at the bottom is glued (not hot glue).

What am I supposed to do now?

Hi Miky - the bits should be there any day - it should have been delivered in 10 days and if I remember well it left 3 weeks ago.

hi Raplh2 - glad it arrived

hi rawtoxin - sorry about the hassle, since january I'm trying to test each extension before shipping so such a thing shouldn't happen (my apology to your wife). Just to confirm - was the brow cable cut and removed? On my stick the dead pin is always brown and the red one is the live one (and so far each extension I made had the brown cable removed and the red one connected) - was it the opposite with your stick? I wonder if there was mix up in color coding when they made the cable or if there are sticks with different pin order. everything else works ok? cheers tomas

miky - just spotted your reply. it should be absolutely impossible to have the cable that way... the cable is D shaped and the top bit has D shape cut out - it fits there only one way. I did used hot glue to avoid the problem you had first time - can you remove the hot glue?

here it is how it should look when you've got it - top1.JPG

Is it possible that the customs had a look inside to check what are the cables about?

Hi Zahry I just got a message from home that my NZ package arrived.

It had been held up a couple of days at our great Dutch customs. I will try to test and enjoy it later on this week.

Zahry,

Hi man I had to try my extension. bad news: my aircraft and views go everywhere. The axis work fine but when I go to game controller settings all my buttons light up with intervals. Do i have to change some wires?

Despite my experience I like the construction and looks so it is a great product.

Hi Whiskey One, thanks for the positive feedback about the construction - looks like that part is all sorted - now I have to figure out the mystery about the extension cables. Looks like there is something going on. Rawtoxin had a similar problem and in his case it was the brown cable that had to be connected (i always cut that one as I don't need it with my joystick) it might be similar case with yours. Please email me your address and I'll send you new extension with all cables connected.

Yes, red is the new brown :)

that's cool Zahry I'll send you an email. I read about your nice service so I don't care about a little wire mix-up. not your fault.

The extension feels solid, moves smooth, easy to install and the offset adjuster is also very easy.

I'm sorry, but it is. Here are more images.

Do you want me to remove the hot glue? I can try and take a photo.

Do you really think, that the customs messed up the cables :)? The envelope was not opened.

And the second question?

If you could do that it would be great - it should be relatively easy to wiggle cable a bit and pull it out. I'm very curious how that happened and why it is like that. I've tried to replicate the problem here but it should be physically impossible unless the cable or the Dshape inside is seriously damaged. If there was a part somehow damaged let me know which one it was and I'll send you a new one.

It was just a thought since you mentioned the customs. I don't really think they would be poking inside - I've just mentioned it because with bit of imagination it can look like a blasting cap on x-rays (has the right shape and lot of wires :-D ) and I thought it might be worth to eliminate this possibility.

Zahry, how much are you loosing in replacement postages and what doubt

are these problems creating about other products on the Simpit website?

Surely it would be a simple matter to test each one you make to see that it actually works?

@zhukov01 -thanks :-), no problem at all - if you can send it back I'll do the mod and send it back to you straight away - hopefully the same day.

@cowboy10uk - cheers. the stick is ready for departure tomorrow morning :-)

Hi Zahry,

Just checking in to see if you received the extension I sent back? Hoping you can fix this one for me.

Hi, I wouldn't say it is losing money. It fixes the problems, it makes everybody happy and the next batch can and will be better. I've done the design in the same fashion as the visuals - so it can be very easily updated and improved without the need to throw away the whole thing if something goes wrong. I'm not sure what doubt it creates about the other products, it is an interesting question. The extension is not my main product, the simulators are - I'm doing the extensions because since I couldn't buy one I had to design one for myself and since I figured out how to make it I thought it might be nice to share it and offer it to everybody else as well. I hope it's not going to bite me back :). On the other hand everybody can see how the customer service works and see that I'm not just taking the money and I do really care that everybody has working product and is happy.

right you are - but some things (as I've learned the hard way) has to be tested more thoroughly and more than once - it's quite hard on the joystick which isn't exactly cheap but unfortunately I'll have to keep using it for testing since it turned out that I can't trust the LED tester.

Hi Zhukov01, Just got it and it's fixed, double tested and it's working OK. If you'll PM me your address (there wasn't return address on envelope) I'll get it on it's way.

Hi Zahry! What will be the final height of the mod with your extension 30cm (including the plate)? It's kinda critical for me, my calculation is 60cm (it should go under the keyboard desk). Could you confirm it?

Thanks,

Sabre.

Sabre, unless you are certain about that length and have tried it before you may not want 30cm, thats on the extreme end for this mod and you will have to make a lot of movement, also the stick will not support itself in the center, it will fall to the side when your hands are off.

I thought of attaching it to the floor, thanks for the comments, I may need to rethink this.

Cheers,

Sabre.

Right, I see where you are coming from . I think the most effective way to use this mod is to bring the base up as high as you can so that you only have to extend the stick 75-100mm.

Even 75mm makes a world of difference to using the stick and the tension is just right, when you start to go longer then the stick starts to lose resistance fairly quickly.

I think there are a number of threads around where people make some platform to raise the stick base, this imho is the way to go.

I got it, you are right, I'd rather need a 10cm extention.

metalnwood - thanks for the advice the shorter extensions are better for airplanes and I agree the 7.5 - 12 cm is ideal - i would say the long extension would be good for helicopter simulation
