Negative, FC2 has under control of Ubi, no ED, you not need FC2 to use FC3.

And?

ED is who put the price, and if he wants to put a different price for owners of FC2, who is Ubi to say something.

Greetings

ED is who put the price...

Exactly.

The Pre-Purchase price is already cheaper than the Release price, sort of the same where the BS2 upgrade was cheaper than the BS2 Full version.

Want a discount?

Get the Pre-Purchase now.

Cannot now want 3 price-bands, that would just be plain silly.

Yes, you can a price:

39.99$ Beta Stage

49.99$ Release

You can see a discount for FC2?

ED can´t give you a discount to hold a product to a different company. Only ED put a price for your products. Nor do you know if you have to pay ED Ubi legal rights, to use the mark (this requires you to install FC3 install LOMAC by copyright), so imagine if you had to make up a "discount" for having FC2.

Seems to me like people are offered a finger and suddenly want to take the entire hand. If ED were to give FC3 away for free, I bet someone would show up and say "I'm a FC2 owner, so ED should pay me".

Wags made a very decent explanation about the beta/final price difference.

We honestly do listen, but we cannot meet all expectations. We could have kept the feature set frozen for FC3, but we read the feedback, we discussed it internally, and saw where the product was lacking from the view of our core customers (you guys). We decided to address this (as much as we could), but the drawback though is that it will stretch out development at least a couple of months. In order to cover this increase in the product development budget, we had to adjust the cost a bit for the final version. However, we will continue to honor the original price of the pre-purchase of course.

From this, I see that ED initially kept beta and final prices the same. They decided to raise the price of the final release of FC3 because of the added features.

But they also did a very fair thing and kept the beta purchase price the same (i.e. lower).

All I can say is KUDOS. In fact, I'm so overly impressed by ED's actions that today I bought the Combined Arms module, which I originally wasn't that interested in (as I'm all about the flight). It felt like the right thing to do, to support this great company.
