intenseas Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 Ok, so I went from buying a new entry level computer and downloading DCS last week to now returning the computer and planning a full custom build system and configuration from the ground up... Wow... The plan now is to build a custom computer. I will hopefully have a good idea on the configuration this week. Priorities are to make sure I can easily upgrade the machine to keep expanding on the setup. I want to start with something that can handle 3 monitors on the high settings and then upgrade to an additional touchscreen for avionics eventually. I plan on buying the TM Warthog controls and Saitek rudders controls. Also need to decide what to do for head tracking. I will keep reading threads to try and decide on setup options and learn more. All input would be greatly appreciated on monitors, hardware, etc... I want to initially spend about $1,500 on the computer build alone. joey45 Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 If it's just gaming the the i5 instead of the i7 The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. Nopileus Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 (edited) that "AMD" build has quite a few faults 1. Why waste money on the fancy motherboard 2. Why a 1000watt noname PSU when a 500w name brand one will do (and won't explode in your face) 3. GPU should be the HD7950 if this is an AMD build, else it should be the 660ti What you really want is the Intel i5-3570k, a Z77 motherboard of your choice (can be as cheap as ~100€) with fitting 8 or 16gb of RAM and a HD7950 or GTX660ti. Now don't forget a name brand PSU (enermax, bequiet, cougar etc) and the rest will do. PS: if you have room to play with you might as well go with a bigger Graphics card, but its not really needed. SkateZilla Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 Analysis, Wasting Money on High end Parts and mixing with Lower / Entry Level parts... So.. Changing to ASRock Extreme 4 will save you $50, -Same Chipset (990FX), -Better/Active VRM Cooling. Dropping to 700w will save you prolly another $50. (my Rig all runs on a Single 700w OCZ which is like 89ish, TD May be cheaper) as Much as it pains me to say, an i5, will prolly do better than an FX8350, for about the same price, and use less power doing it.. 660ti, is entry level, I'd go with a 670/680 or 7950/7970 for about $60 more (Money saved from PSU and Mobo Changes). Also check NewEgg if available in your area, they have CPU/Mobo Combo Deals. Also find them to usually be cheaper than TD. Cali Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 I built the system in my sig back in June for $1538. You could build one for cheaper now and better then the one you have planned. StoOopiD Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 (edited) i think the 1050w psu is more future proof. maybe the last one u'll ever buy. since it has a lifetime warranty. with a 750w psu limitations may arise. @Skatevilla, i like the 5th comment down on this product page.lol http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157267 Edited December 28, 2012 by StoOopiD [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Crosshair VIII hero wifi, 3800x w/ Enermax 360 AIO cooler (push-pull), 32gigs DDR4 Ripjaws 3600, Win 10 home on a Plextor PCI-E x4 3gb/s HD, EVGA 2070 Super FTW3 ultra+, Soundblaster Z Rift S, M$FFB2, CH Pro throttle, Saitek pedals BS2, A10C, P51D, SPITFIRE, FC3, Uh-1H, F86, Mi-8MTV2, SA342, MIG21-bis, AV8BNA, F14, F16, FA-18C, SUPERCARRIER
Kuky Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 ^^^ Things still age so even though you might never reach need to consume that much power from the PSU the components will degrade over time. My ASRock 990FX Fatali1ty Professional has a crap load of ports, dual lan, etc. I actually like the Active VRM Cooling on the Extreme 4 Edited December 28, 2012 by SkateZilla Windows 10 Pro, Ryzen 2700X @ 4.6Ghz, 32GB DDR4-3200 GSkill (F4-3200C16D-16GTZR x2), ASRock X470 Taichi Ultimate, XFX RX6800XT Merc 310 (RX-68XTALFD9) 3x ASUS VS248HP + Oculus HMD, Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS + MFDs
StoOopiD Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 (edited) u caught me before i edited the post, ur lucky u didnt get a flamey one.lol i like more psu power, cause it helps stablize OC's and if u decide to SLI later, no worries.
