new to this version. i played the original Flaming cliffs years ago. i gotta tell you, the new A-10C is difficult. the avionics and computer systems, the way its mapped on my joystick.......i only have the logitech extreme 3d pro for now (i'm looking at ebay right now for a cheap x-52 setup), i downloaded a mapping profile for it. crazy confusing.....anyway, so a couple of questions

1. difference between simulation and game mode controls?

2. i've been playing in simulation mode, i have the modifier buttons set up. now if i push the modifier button say, to run the coolie switch, i have to push the button again to turn off the modification. is there anyway i can set it up so i push and hold the modifier button? rather than push to turn on, then push again to turn off......its a pain that way and i got lost last night as to which modifier button was activated.

last night was my first time playing but i understand the setup.....just need practice and i want to make it simpler. oh and i downloaded facetracknoir, that is a little hard to get used to but very cool setup for a built in webcam on a laptop.

You have the button set as a switch. You got modifiers and switches so you'll want to add your button to the modifier section.

You'll notice my joy button 6 in my screen which is my pinky switch.

Very simple:

Game mode: arcade style game environment (for the kids).

Simulation mode: As in the real world (as real as it is implemented by the developers (that's the one to go for)).

Win11 Pro 64-bit, Ryzen 5800X3D, Corsair H115i, Gigabyte X570S UD, EVGA 3080Ti XC3 Ultra 12GB, 64 GB DDR4 G.Skill 3600. Monitors: LG 27GL850-B27 2560x1440 + Samsung SyncMaster 2443 1920x1200, HOTAS: Warthog with Virpil WarBRD base, MFG Crosswind pedals, TrackIR4, Rift-S, Elgato Streamdeck XL.

Personal Wish List: A6 Intruder, Vietnam theater, decent ATC module, better VR performance!

great. you guys are chock full of "the knowledge". i will have tons of questions for you all. in fact, a few more.

the labeling for enemies and friendlies, that is not normal correct? that is a game option and not implemented in real life.

and the A-10C doesnt have a HUD that follows your line of sight right? for some reason i recall seeing a youtube video that showed that on an A-10.

Mini-HUD tickbox preset in your 'Options' screen.

Also n00b and knowing, I will have to learn a lot and I'm sure, my first accurate bomb drops will be in 2 years ;)

Currently enjoying videos like

- love that, those guys also play Arma sim with big squad sizes, it really feels like you're into the combat :)

This one is funny. He just hates the sim, because he expected to buy a game on Steam, hahahaha

is it really almost 2 am? nuts. been fine tuning controls and running training missions. my flight is already much smoother. i got the facetracknoir dialed in too. runs really well now.

i also found a mod to increase the hud font size. which is a huge help. learned how to adjust the intensity of the hud, and change it from green to amber. i'm on a roll. i can even shoot up some cargo trucks in the quick play easy missions.

i'm not sure why i ever stopped playing flaming cliffs

How does it work, you turn your head slightly? I mean, if I turn my head 180° I probably won't see my monitor ;)

If you turn your head left a bit, you still want to see the monitor, which stays in the center... So you have to turn your head left and watch to the right.. Isn't that a bit... unnormal or do you get used to it?

Just as a side note: I'm completely stunned by the DCS compared to X-Plane 10:

a) DCS runs smoothly, virtually it feels like a natice c or even assembler application, whereas X-Plane feels like Dotnet Framework app...

b) The details of the cockpit, the zooming, 360° turn... X-Plane is like 10 years back

c) Maps and vehicles in X-Plane sometimes look like from an 80s computer program

TrackIR (and face tracking in general) only works because it amplifies your movements. For me, looking at the outside edge of the display equals checking my six o'clock. It does help to use larger (or multiple) displays, of course, though it's not at all necessary. The greater your display area, the less amplification you will require, resulting in finer control.

it takes a little to get it dialed in correctly but ya, you can fine tune how much or how little you turn your head (input) then you can fine tune how much movement you get on the screen (output). so say you turn your head 30*, with that 30* turn you could be looking 180* behind you.

just kidding, you have to set up a bunch of mirrors in your room so you can still see the screen.

lol, in Freetrack you can set the sensibility for each axes.

Same in TrackIR and I assume most of the software. I found the thing that took the most practice and adjustment was getting used to holding my head still while I clicked buttons.

neutral zone cures that. on facetrackrnoir i have mine set to about 9. initially, with this program, there is still a tiny bit of input in the neutral zone. i noticed it last night and made the input even smaller in the sliders adjustments. that got rid of all the "shaking" i had going on initially. its nice to have just the littlest amount of input in the neutral zone, other wise the tracking isnt smooth. your line of sight will "snap out" of that neutral zone if you have it set to dead zero input.

i have the easy comms selected in options. when i play instant action the / key doesnt work. when i map it to my joy stick, it works. any fixes for this?

What is the mod to increase font size in the hud and how do you install it please. I sure could use that one.
