RIPTIDE Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 Not so passionate ... let's put it this way. Kopp has no access to classified info, and he likes to ignore real information and under-value western kit while over-valuing eastern kit. His slant is specifically for Australia to bring back upgraded F-111's, get no F-35's, and get F-22's instead. I haven't read the thread, but I remember reading somewhere that Kopp had material interests in some contractors that MIGHT get work from upgrading F-111's :music_whistling: [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
wilky510 Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 I haven't read the thread, but I remember reading somewhere that Kopp had material interests in some contractors that MIGHT get work from upgrading F-111's :music_whistling: And guess what took those contracts away? The F-35 program. You should read some of his stuff on the f-35. It's pretty hilarious. Su-27 classes with their godmode IRST's would make shortwork of the F-35, but he fails to mention the F-35 has it's own IRST. He only talks about the weaknesses of the F-35, with none of it's strengths. Very biased site if i ever saw one.
dumgrunt Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 Yes yes we all know Kopp is a champion of self abuse and derided at best by most people 'in the loop' here. But if what he writes makes the politicians think twice before they rip the arse out of our defence budget again, maybe its a good thing? Or just wishful thinking. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
GGTharos Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 Not really. The RAAF know what they need better, and the politicians should listen to them. That's not to say that they shouldn't have a govt accountability oversight office of some form. dumgrunt Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 politicians listening to the military? :megalol: two words. Stephen Smith. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
MudRat02 Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 I don't think he's posted any articles on that site for the last few years that haven't damned the F-35 and the Super Hornet, and praised the F-22 and F-111. Two of my personal favourites are his story (I think he intended for it to be thought provoking, rather than amusing) about how the US, under attack from terrorists, calls on the RAAF and its super F-111s to save the day, and the second is his very indepth analysis of the J-20's stealth properties only days after the first half a dozen pictures hit the net. Needless to say, the stealth was better than the F-35 but not the F-22, and we're all doomed. Despite what many may believe, politicians don't just cut funding, draw a name out of a hat then sign a deal for a few dozen jets. There is logic in the RAAF's purchases, and its a bit more far sighted than "the current government wants to be in surplus next year and have cut defence budget, I guess we should buy the second or third best option". Sting57 Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 Are other countries able to buy the F22. I thought the USA had blocked its purchase to other countries? MudRat02 Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 The US won't export the Raptor to any other countries (I believe Japan was also interested in the F-22). We expressed an interest at one stage (when Fitzgibbon was defence minister?) when alternatives to the 100 JSF buy were being considered, though I don't know how serious that was. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Cali Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 Certain aircraft will not be available to other countries because of the advanced options they have or there mission. Bombers come to mind the most, B-1, B2, B-52 and F-117's. i7-4820k @ 3.7, Windows 7 64-bit, 16GB 1866mhz EVGA GTX 970 2GB, 256GB SSD, 500GB WD, TM Warthog, TM Cougar MFD's, Saitek Combat Pedals, TrackIR 5, G15 keyboard, 55" 4K LED

Wolf Rider Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 But if what he writes makes the politicians think twice before they rip the arse out of our defence budget again, maybe its a good thing? Or just wishful thinking. well, we have been progessively ripped down from the 4th largest AF in the world (WWII) to the token gesture we run with now. The F111's were run until the wheels (literally) fell off... and there is no oversight for political bickering and manipulations City Hall is easier to fight, than a boys' club - an observation :P "Resort is had to ridicule only when reason is against us." - Jefferson "Give a group of potheads a bunch of weed and nothing to smoke out of, and they'll quickly turn into engineers... its simply amazing." Cali Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 We are losing all sorts of people also, but expected to do the same...if not more. i7-4820k @ 3.7, Windows 7 64-bit, 16GB 1866mhz EVGA GTX 970 2GB, 256GB SSD, 500GB WD, TM Warthog, TM Cougar MFD's, Saitek Combat Pedals, TrackIR 5, G15 keyboard, 55" 4K LED

MudRat02 Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 Being the fourth largest air force post WWII is irrelevant. After that unsustainable force was downsized, our force hasn't really shrunk. Unless by shrunk, you mean we buy slightly less combat aircraft now because we don't expect to loose several per year to ejections. We're in as good a shape as we've ever been. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
