fangav Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 At AEF we are starting to use " and enjoy" the Jtac mod for the KA50. Putting the lat/ long into the PVI and saving into the Abris is no problem, what I what to know is, is it possible to do the reverse? eg, Once Ive lazed and locked up a target in the Abris, can I get the lat/long to display in the PVI. I'm looking for a fast way to give targets locations to the A10's. Moving the red cross or the red box around in the map page seems to slow. Any help or idea's would be much appreciated. JG14_Smil Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 (edited) Not sure if this is what you want, but I just tried this: Laser Standby on, Auto Turn on. Lock a target PVI-800 in EDIT mode. Select NAV TGT button and select number. Uncage Shkval to select target once and Enter light should come on in PVI-800. Hit Enter button, PVI-800 back in OPER mode and select NAV TGT number for coordinates. Make sure you are not in "fly-over" mode by switch on the PVI-800. Edited February 5, 2013 by JG14_Smil 1
fangav Posted February 5, 2013 Author Posted February 5, 2013 That could be just the ticket JG14 Smil. I'll give it a try. Rep inbound. Thanks. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
fangav Posted February 5, 2013 Author Posted February 5, 2013 Close but no cigar, looks like that give's you your own lat/long position. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
flanker0ne Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Close but no cigar, looks like that give's you your own lat/long position. Cause your position taking method still in Fly Over, change it to Shkval SCOPRI DI PIU': https://www.amvi.it/joinus.php DISCORD COMBINEDOPS The Battle Planning Tool
wess24m Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Really weird but I just watched this video 2 min's ago ;) I believe this is what you're looking for.
fangav Posted February 5, 2013 Author Posted February 5, 2013 FlankerOne. Yes that is what i had missed. thanks to you all. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

TurboHog Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 I think your Abris = Shkval? Now put the PVI in Edit mode and make an empty TGT point. Turn on the Shkval and find a target. Now designate the target as if you would make a datalink. The coordinates appear in you PVI so press enter and there is your TGT point with coordinates. 'Frett'
seikdel Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Really weird but I just watched this video 2 min's ago ;) I believe this is what you're looking for. Even simpler method: After you've marked the TP, select MAP, then INFO. Scroll the box over the TP, then select INFO again to display the exact coordinates of the TP. For giggles, you can also do this to view your wingmen's altitudes by selecting their markers on the ABRIS =D

seikdel Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 True, but if you're passing coordinates to Hogs, the ABRIS method gives you another significant figure, narrowing your window from ~200m to ~20m. Edit: In the VTAG, we use this method as SOP because of the increased accuracy.
JG14_Smil Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 This is what I found confusing about this post... why go to the PVI when the lat and long are right there on the ABRIS?
fangav Posted February 6, 2013 Author Posted February 6, 2013 Just trying to find the quickest easiest method, with as little time spent with my head in the cockpit. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Daniel M Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 This is what I found confusing about this post... why go to the PVI when the lat and long are right there on the ABRIS? Because you have to "fiddle" to get the abris info or erbl over the correct position vs just HMS/shkval lock? I really find both to be pretty similar, my personal pref is the PVI but I don't really think it makes that much of a difference either way. Then again, i usually spit out grids and noone listens
seikdel Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 The PVI is definitely faster. The ABRIS is just an order of magnitude more accurate in the coordinates it gives you. It's a tradeoff, and you have to use your best judgement to decide which method to use.
fangav Posted February 7, 2013 Author Posted February 7, 2013 /\ /\ True true, now I know both methods its time to see which one fits best. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
