Well folks.

Although I got off to a rocky start with my setup, with help from Shahdoh, I got those issues taken care of and dug into the books and tutorials.

Even though I crashed on the runway (take-offs) countless times before I got the hang of it (and still a bit shaky yet), I did finally get into the air and start flying around Shahdoh's Redbull Time Trials track.

I had plenty of crashes there too, but considering today is the first time I have ever flown the track and I spent the last two days just trying to get off the ground, I'm pretty pleased with a 2:47 time.

I know this, it has been years since I have been able to enjoy any flight sims and thus I have been stuck in FPS's which are fun, but it's just not the same thing.

The fact is, I might never do an FPS ever again because I can see I have months of learning and practicing ahead, combined with years of fun doing what I enjoy best ... FLYING.

It will be a while before any of you Aces have much to worry about me, but given time, I'll give you a run for your money (and your simulated Lives !!!).

I can't wait !

You'll need to take some time off and run an FPS just to relax from the sheer nerdiness of hardcore flight-sims. :)

At least that's what I do! :) When I fly some A-10 on Rush in BF3, I come back and fly DCS A-10C and, like, TRIPLE my enjoyment of the sim. :)

Just got the P-51D and miraclously managed to land it nicely the first time around. :) When I started thinking about it, I started crashing. :)

Does ARMA count as an FPS?

I love a bit of BF3 myself, its a nice little break sometimes but I do avoid the aircraft ;) If I could only choose one title to play of course, it would be DCS all day long...

Just starting up the A-10C in DCS is 100000000000000x times better than playing battlefield 3, there's no doubt.

Better than any PC based flight sim I have ever played and I have played most of them since 1985.

I recently got into ArmA 3 Alpha, then Beta, then the current final release and though the infantry aspect of the game is fun and about the best I have tried, the flight stuff is a bit arcade.

Comparing DCS to ArmA or Call of Duty as a FPS (First Person Shooter) is not even in the same class of the definition.

As far as modding code and manipulating My Computer in Windows 7 behind the scene, my 5 years with Aces High is similar experience, though the DCS flight engine seems to be more realistic. The real PC geeks seem to hang out in the flight sim community and quite a few guys are right there on the forward edge of the always current technology---if one can afford that luxury.

Funny cos BF3 was also my last FPS. They're all getting too arcadey, churned out full of bugs that are ignored in favor of pay to win content and full of whiney kids complaining about balance for my liking. The last "great" FPS I played and really enjoyed was COD2.

I get far more enjoyment buzzing the airfields in my little stang now :)
