No need to jump up and down.. These are just documented examples available that state that gun convergences were adjusted to pilot preference - the reason why some of us are asking for this option in DCS. :)

No offense, but this document you posted doesn't proof anything. Its authenticity and information value is arguable...

another little titbit..

A little tired of beating(shooting) a dead horse but, this document is very generalized and obviously not from any official source and most likely early-war information. Sounds like some vague campfires stories.

I have a problem that I cannot edit my previous posts... but anyway.. here's an interesting interview..

http://www.cebudanderson.com/interviewparmer.htm

In this interview Parmer, while a seemingly great man, doesn't remember many details from those days long ago. He openly states that he gets the P-39 and Mustang mixed up. BIG difference there. I also read this and initally thought it might be useful except for the fact that the details are long gone from his brain.

...There's clear anecdotal evidence that a number of more experienced pilots shortened the harmonisation pattern on their aircraft. Although this might not have been the official standard I would think that some of the more experienced pilots were probably given leeway to make these modifications unofficially. I'm also sure that all new pilots were given the standard pattern as for average pilots this would work the best for them.

All in all the proof will be in the pudding if people are allowed to make these modifications themselves and experiment as their real-life counterparts did. They may well end up being disappointed but they can have no complaints if they are.

The "clear" evidence is clearly from early in the war if you are speaking about the P-51. It's not being argued that other platforms and other nations enjoyed setting their convergence while flying without the K-14.

I recall reading something about the box pattern being a bit of a nightmare when fighters went after 109's and 190's between the Bombers that they were escorting, too many 50 cal rounds all over the place is a recipe for disaster and so a lot of them had the weapons made to fire on a convergence point instead.

But I know nothing......lol

Actually if you set your guns to a single point conversion, you get a much larger spread after the convergence distance, than you would with the official 1000 feet harmonization or "box pattern".

And I am yet to hear about a historical account of a true 'single point' convergence.

Single point conversion seems to me to be coming from IL2 pilots. (that is IL2, the game)

No problem.. I thought that it might have been in the post WW2 theatre around Israel, but AFAIC the fledgling Israel Air Force were using Spits, and I think there were some BF109s floating around in the area. But I think this was a few years later anyway.

(IL2 did this)

Maddox Games did all kinds of things, such as adjusting the flight models as per the loudest whiner at any given time. And when questioned about it, always said "be sure, is correct" So if that's the kind of BS you still want to see, boyo, you're flying a wrong sim...
