Hello,

I would like to upgrade to a 256 gig SSD. I currently have Crucial M4 and plan to buy another in the larger size.

Will I have to reload all of Windows 7 or can I just transfer things over somehow?

Will this change affect my DCS activation?

thanks in advance.

The easiest thing to do is backup anything on your current SSD that you might miss, install Windows 7 again on your new SSD and then copy everything you backed up over. Then install DCS World and install the modules + use an activation.

This is the most effective and easy solution since you'll never have to do it again unless you change your SSD. Your situation is one of the few times that results in activating again, assuming that the module in question is currently installed on the Crucial M4.

Why, in your scenario, would you not deactivate first thus saving the activations.

EDIT: There are plenty of imaging solutions out there.

There are of course ways to avoid activating, or indeed "transferring" everything he has installed over to the new SSD. It's just my personal opinion that what I outlined is the easiest way to go about what he wants to do.

Forget the imaging part. Why not deacivate the sim before doing anything? Then you still have to activate it but you don't use one up.

This would add a step and could definitely help if he wants to do it, I believe this is the link too: http://proactive.star-force.com/2.0/activate.php

There is again of course no reason not to, but at 9 activations... :effort:

You could always invest in an Intel SSD, of the size you require, and use their (Acronis) migrate software... it works a treat :smilewink:

Acronis True Image is by far THE BEST imaging software available. It will allow you to actually backup your current SSD and restore it to the new one and even increase the partition sizes. It will also ensure proper alignment of the SSD and all. Great software.

I actually have 2x 256GB Samsung 840 Pro SSD's that were used for all of maybe 3 weeks. I used them in a Raid 0 setup but ended up needing more space and bought 2x512GB 840 pro's. If you are interested PM me. They have been wiped using the samsung software a total of 2 times. Just an option. GL.

Used Acronis True Image for HDD to SSD transition, everything worked flawlesly, didn't need to reinstall anything (Win7, DCS, FSX, Condor, and bunch of other software). Currently using OCZ Vertex 4 (512 GB).
