Personally, I prefer realism as much as possible,, Yeah,, its hard,,, but thats part of the immersion,, you want a sim that mimics real life dont ya? How many real world pilots do you think are flying around right now over the bad lands do you think have labels?,, I prefer the challenge,, yeah, I might die more,, but the more I get beat up, the better lessons I have learned.I think it takes away from the immersion of reality by doing it the cheap way,,, ,, It wouldn't give me any pride!

Realism is good, labels are baaad, mkay? :music_whistling: Not really...

Imho all desktop simulators are harder than reality if you are talking about spotting stuff. Because reality has a lot bigger resolution :D

I wonder how many mission irl are considered failed because the pilot missed the last btr hidden in the tree line.

Or how many IRL fly hardcore without any talk-on where the spotted threats really are. And "2, tally armor, 5'oclock for 10" is enough for them ;)

I am torn on the subject of labels... It depends on what I am doing. Since I, like many, make youtube videos of some of my flights, I find that labels ON is useful for the viewer to track what is happening on the screen (that AIM-9 that just narrowly missed me, the F-16 I just turned into 100 falling pieces, etc). So in that regard (Air - Air combat), labels are essential for me to help tell my stories.

I DO however have a problem with labels when doing Air - Ground work. The labels get in the way of the actual target, and I cannot aim properly. That is often when I will shut them off.

Same for landing on the Admiral Kuznetsov. There is no way I am keeping labels on for that.

Pretty much this.

You're torn between either A: unrealistic labels that show you exacly where the enemy is or B : Unrealistic pilot vision... it sucks , we need scaling BAD.

DCS's shit visibility is the reason i'm staying away from the WW2 modules to be honest , i could go on a CAP and fly right past the enemy without ever knowing , pass.

To be fair, it's not just bad scaling. A major limitation is resolution and inability to use your peripheral vision in many cases. For me this affects ground vehicles more than air. At least in the air, something 1 pixel in size may still be noticeable against a sky that is only a couple of colors.

Against the ground, on the other hand... a unit represented by quite a few pixels can get lost in the the ground texture.

In the end you're either enabling labels and having it way easier than it would be IRL, or turning them off and having it way harder than it would be IRL.

I am looking forward to an Oculus Rift-like device with very high resolution. THEN it would get real.

My viewpoint on this is that the sizing and appearance of objects has been modelled on a purely mathematical basis and that Eagle really need to do a basic exercise to establish at what range you would see certain things in real life and make sure people playing the game experience the same- maths, modelling, resolution, graphics and all other sim factors aside.
