eFirehawk Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 (edited) Hello everyone :) This has been bugging me for a while so I decided to ask if anybody has any idea of a possible solution. I like to have the option "Head movements by G-Force in cockpit" enabled, it might not be perfect but I still like it very much, it feels much more natural to fly with it activated than having the eye position 100% stuck in the same place no matter what you do :D, but there's a small problem: when flying, specially in the F-15C, if I pull a high G turn, the head eyepoint sinks down too much, during a close range dogfight I feel more worried about banging my head in the IFF panel below the HUD and havig my jaw cracking the ADI ( I exaggerated a bit but it still kinda feels that way ) than actually being shot down by the enemy aircraft :joystick: I can only see the compass line at the top of the HUD when pulling a tight turn. I don't think a pilot's neck would ever be compressed downwards that much like this. Considering that the camera parameters in DCS are very customizable, does anybody have any idea if it's possible to "limit" how much the eyepoint sinks down with the G force movements enabled? I've found parameters to adjust the Camera Jiggle effects but the Shift+J camera jiggle has nothing to do with this. :) Thanks Edited May 1, 2013 by eFirehawk Pentium II 233Mhz | 16MB RAM | 14.4kb Modem | 1.44MB Floppy Disk Drive | Windows 3.1 with TM Warthog & TrackIR 5
9.JG27 DavidRed Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 (edited) i quote myself here: "i had the same problem, note with a single screen though...so i dont know if the following is of help. first i went into my game directory: C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\Config\View and adjusted the view.lua file(line 13) to UseDefaultSnapViews = false ...and saved it. then i opened the SnapViews.lua file in my saved games folder: C:\Users\David\Saved Games\DCS\Config\View in this file you will find all flyable aircraft and all possible views for it.i searched for the "default view" line of the module i wanted to change.the first line in this section changes the FOV apparantly: viewAngle = 90.000000,--FOV(my adjusted P51 FOV) i also changed the following line in the same section: y_trans = 0.200000 which makes my pilot a little bit taller....i have the impression, that with 124, my pilot shrinked to a midget by default, and i was somehow barely able to look outside of my pit.... hope this helps...oh of course after adjusting the file, dont forget to save it PS: maybe this is of help as well: http://en.wiki.eagle.ru/wiki/Snap_views" ...the y trans is responsible for the "size" of your pilot.if you increase it above 0, your eyes will be placed a bit higher.... maybe that is of help to you....dont know whether you use trackir or not, but if you do, than increasing the y axis is of big help.at least it helped me, as i really enjoy the "headmovements by g-forces" option as well. theGozr Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 Agree this is a problem in ALL sims but in RL the head is a great shocks dampener . Ready to turn you contract your self to endure G's and your head will NOT move as much as in DCS or even worse like in Cliffs of Dover. So it should be less and more dampened. 1 Fly it like you stole it..
Milorg Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 It would be nice if we could adjust this, or the effect was toned down. The movement effect is really immersive, it's just overdone.
pepin1234 Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 Yes, I have notice that too. Too much I think [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
skouras Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 i was ready to make a thread about this and yes is overdone pulling G's in A-10 and you sink your head to the seat [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]W10(64bit)Asus Rog Strix Z370-F - i7 8700K - Dark Rock Pro 4 - 16 giga ram Corsair vengeance 3000 - MSI RTX 2070 Super - Asus Rog Phobeus soundcard - Z906 Surround speaker - Track ir5 - HOTAS Warthog
ENO Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 Any time I get my head pushed inside my ribcage I find that I can go through a quick reset by manipulating my head a bit- to bring my tir5 back to center... Hard to describe but when I find I've literally been folded in had I give my head a bit of a shake and it is okay again. This a different problem or similar? "ENO" Type in anger and you will make the greatest post you will ever regret. "Sweetest's" Military Aviation Art

TimeKilla Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 It would be cool to be able to fight the G-Head movements by using TrackIR and putting head movement in the opposite direction to the force being applied that could simulate what it's like in real life. :joystick: YouTube :pilotfly: TimeKilla on Flight Sims over at YouTube.
Darkwolf187 Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 ... except in real life you're stopping your head moving, with TrackIR you're moving your head the other direction entirely, meaning you wind up half standing in your seat to clearly see the HUD during a tight-G turn. On the up side, it's more immersive with G forces turned on, and I'm learning to fly using my needle gauges in tight turns :D
TimeKilla Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 lol Well I was thinking more very small moments moving forward 20 you would hit your monitor moving forward 4 and hardly even move at all. Never happen tho so all good. :joystick: YouTube :pilotfly: TimeKilla on Flight Sims over at YouTube.
Rider1 Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 Assuming you have Enable G Forces checked, you can make adjustments to it in view.lua 66. head_roll_shaking = true 67. head_roll_shaking_max = 3.0 68. head_roll_shaking_compensation_gain = 0.1 This is what I a have mine set at. Your virtual head floats around just enough to take the edge off, and have some movement, without being too sloppy. Play with this in notepad ++ and see if this is what you are looking for.
