I’m about to jump onboard with the rest of you hardcore simmers and get a TrackIR. The problem is, I am still debating over which one to get. It’s either between the TrackIR 3 Pro or the TrackIR 4 Pro. And yes I have read the review over at http://www.simhq.com/_technology/technology_068a.html but I want another person’s opinion because I saw that the rig they used was slightly average.

TrackIR 3 Pro

Good sides: could have 6DOF support with an additional purchase of the Vector Pro, it has LED lights (which is cool), 33 degree view

Bad Side: I read it sometimes goes off-center and it “stutters” a little. (can anyone confirm this?)

TrackIR 4 Pro

Good side: smaller, faster, higher res, 6DOF support, accurate, and smooth

(possible) Bad side: I read it was light sensitive (which is bad considering I have 2 windows behind me. And with the 46 degree view, that’s more windows). Can anyone comment on this?

In conclusion, I want your opinion of what to get. The TrackIR 4 is smaller but that doesn’t really matter since I’m using a CRT monitor. And if I get it, does it come with the hat? If not, then I guess that’s another 10 dollars adding to a total of $190. The TrackIR 3 (with Vector) will cost about $150. I’m not really on a tight budget, but I want the most bang for my buck. Thanks in advance for anyone who comments.

P.S. could anyone post any pictures of the TrackIR 4 at night? Because I was wondering if it had that fancy LED lights as seen on the 3 Pro.

TrackIR 4 is the obvious choice… technological progress. Can’t really tell you beyond that… never had TrackIR3 and still waiting for my TrackIR4 to arrive. On eBay you’ll find brand new TrackIR 4 for around $150 including shipping. TrackIR3 will go even cheaper…

in case you didnt see my post at the lock on forums ill post it here also.

I just wanna say that I ordered a trackIR4 tonight and am also very interested in what people had to say about this.

Also I used this discount coupon when I bought mine tonight and I want to pass it on to you (I spent 15 minutes finding it for you lol). If you live in the USA you can get $30.00 off track ir 4 pro with this website. Heres the info.

Merry Christmas.

(It came to a grand total of $167.00 including shipping and sales tax.)

I have TrackIR3pro (no expansion pack though). Never had any problems with it. I understand the main difference is that 4th version base unit has wider field of view.

Can't imagine how you need to moove your head so base unit looses 'sight' on you. Don't know about price difference between 4th and 3rd versions though.

TrackIR 4 Pro

Good side: smaller, faster, higher res, 6DOF support, accurate, and smooth

I have TIR 3 PRO w VE,(I too have window about 4' directly behind me)and trust me that as well is light sensitive..my advice is to buy some quality (thick) curtain's to block out the light if u have a window behind ya ;)..or just wait until the sun goes down-or untill it clouds over :)

p.s if i were buying from new I would personally go for TIR 4 PRO..coz I'm so impressed with my TIR 3 PRO (which i havn't had for long)..I wouldnt fly without it

Be Good..Be Strong..:drink: ;)

Thanks for all the comments you guys, keep it coming. And for those who have the TrackIr 4 pro, or is going to get one soon, could you post a couple pictures of it at night? I would like to see if it has LED lights just like the 3 pro. I would also like to see how it remains on top of a reg monitor, because it seems like a kind of product that will fall over. lol

I've had the v3pro with vector expansion for about 6 months now..

works great....

I do have a small situation where theres is a lamp on the other side of the room behind me...but I can make an adjustment in the 3pro software or just

move the lite a little (it's a small flex neck reading light).

Otherwise...I've not had one problem with it.

The only thing I wish Naturalpoint would do is bind the "looking around" in FPS games like COD2..etc..

If I was the first time out...do the v4 and be current....don't save 20buck just to be obsolete in 2 months.

Thanks,

Brett

Never had this happen to me. My TrackIR-3Pro has always worked great (I don't have the 6DOF add-on, though).

ah, i see you got the gainward 6800gt gs in that pic, i got a spare top cover for it if you want, it was for my old 6800gt gs, it died and before it did i got a free red roof from gainward with the 2 fans.

i took off one of the clamps so that i could try and fit it on my msi 68gt, but it wudnt fit due to mobo restriciton, so if you want a new roof incase your fans go, i got one brand new but oly has 3 screw holes as i took off the fourth.

I have a tir3 with ve, and while I won't be ungrading I'd never recommend going for the older tech to save a few bucks.

imho each of the tir products has been a good improvement.

Myself I have a TrackIr Pro 3 with VE, track hat and such. I’m truly amazed with this tool. Brings out an immersion untouchable compared to mouse or hat switching on your stick. Never had any prob’s with it. Then again I bought my hardware 3 weeks before the trackIr pro 4 came out. Going with the newest and the best technology is the way to go in my opinion.

IHMO TrackIr 3 Pro with VE or TrackIr 4, will get you the best out of this product.

As for loosing track, with my hardware, or choppy behavior. Nope, all smooth on my rig.

True, as of this day. I would never fly Lomac without one. Hope you enjoy your new toy. Once you have it. Do let us know your opinion once you get used to it.

Cheers.

i just got my TIR4Pro..............it blows the TIR3Pro away !!

Straight away with standard install and Quick Fly on the Su25 mission i could get more head movement and less limits, it was way faster and smoother from the word go !

The 3Pro would sometimes get stuck or not go all the way to the limits of the pit without moving my head again, the 4Pro is just faultless outta the box !

Also the 3Pro would just switch off if i didnt put my trackhat on untill i was in game forcing me to quit and start again to enable it again ! I havent been able to repeat this "bug" with 4Pro .

With the 3Pro i had to fiddle with the profiles and get the TIR set in the exact position or i would have limited view, the 4Pro has none of these problems giving more view and smoother, faster and more acurate movement.

My advice to you is if you dont have a TIR at all then skip the 3Pro and get the 4Pro its worth it, the only "downsides" if you can call them that, is that it feels smaller and "delicate" on 1st handling it. But after giving it a good twisting about its actually quite tough !

Go one treat yourself.............its christmas !! :D

I wonder why they use a blue light.. or any light at all for that matter, as it makes night missions much harder when you have a blinding light in your eyes

If I'm not mistaken you can disable the lights, especialy the blue led one. I think I saw that option in the drivers. Then again, I have not look for that feature, so cant be too sure.
