Kameni Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 (edited) How hard it is to script ATC not to tell you the same runway in 99% of cases? Ever heard of "scramble"? Yes? Well - that is what actually happens all the time in DCS: Bunch of planes need to be put up there ASAP. Scrambling is a planned manner of raising as much as possible aircraft in as short possible period. So, all the serious servers have the "Right" or "Left" side rule for taxi and take off/landing. Why can't we choose what approach we want to use? I am sure it can be done in a jiffy. - EVENT PLAYER CONTACTS ATC DECLARING INBOUND - EVENT ATC RESPONDS and ask which runway PLAYER want's to use for approach - MENU ACTION PLAYER SELECTS RWY NUMBER FROM MENU and ATC gives appropriate answer to "INBOUND" request - EVENT PLAYER is on the start of final approach and THEN ATC ASKS FOR CONTACT .......(IF player swithces to "LNDG"/"POS" THEN ASK "is the player in the 20km radius from airport" .......WHEN YES Ask for visual clearance and give wind and approach information .......WHEN NO ATC Responds with information same as when PLAYER declares "Inbound" - gives him information what do to to reach designated point for starting final approach. That wouldn't be so hard to make, especially to people who made one entire simulator :) Edited May 6, 2013 by Kameni
Ryback Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 .... That wouldn't be so hard to make, especially to people who made one entire simulator :) +1 here. But ATC needs lots of work anyways.I'm not sure ED has time to spare for it.May be a 3rd party.FSX style tower add-on would do the job.
Lucas_From_Hell Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 Also, it'd be amazing if we could call an emergency and be given priority. It's a combat simulator after all, and more often than not aircraft look like flying swiss cheese, have only one/no working engine, are missing control surfaces, 'trimmed' wings, are low on fuel, multiple failures, or all of the above. Every second counts in those cases, would be nice to have the ATC clear you before anyone else. Also, for future modules (like the F-15), having arresting cables deployed at the end of the runway when you call an emergency :)
Kameni Posted May 6, 2013 Author Posted May 6, 2013 Hands full or not - good ATC makes a flying simulator, lack of it makes it look less serious. Sad but true.
Robert1983NL Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 Yeah... ATC is totally unrealistic in DCS. I hope it'll be something they'll work on in the near future. Right now it's just total bullshit really.
joey45 Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 The ATC needs a complete overhaul or completely redone from scratch. The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. "Me, the 13th Duke of Wybourne, here on the ED forums at 3 'o' clock in the morning, with my reputation. Are they mad.." https://ko-fi.com/joey45
TeeJay82 Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 The ATC needs a complete overhaul or completely redone from scratch. It doesnt need it.... Would be welcomed by me... but i dont need it... what i do need is the ATC to stop bitching at me when taxiing in close formation :P
xatu miller Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 The ATC needs a complete overhaul or completely redone from scratch. Completely agree . For those of us flying as realistically as possible in squadrons it is a serious problem. Just like Kameni mentioned earlier: a good ATC is a essential part of simulator that is as complex as DCS. WarthogSmurf Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 How hard it is to script ATC not to tell you the same runway in 99% of cases? I do completely agree with having a better ATC but ofc ATC calls 99% the same runway as the wind direction wont change in DCS anytime soon. So if you have a runway with say heading 090 and 270 . Wind direction is 268 7m/s for example it will tell you to take runway 27 ofc because taking off in the wind gives better lift. So actually ATC is trying to get all player planes at the same heading but if every players ignores that then yeah it gets messy. thats why server have the left right rule. What you can do to overcome the poor ATC is assume the airfiled is uncontrolled and tell your intentions on the airbase freq.
