Pilotasso Posted December 18, 2005 Posted December 18, 2005 That all so famous guy with the B-52 made an all too familiar mistake with it, check here. http://www.break.com/articles/modelb52.html Doesnt this remind you anything? .
Guest IguanaKing Posted December 18, 2005 Posted December 18, 2005 From the audio in that last scene...it sounds like it was a bit windy during its last flight. That's gotta suck. What was that, $20,000 in engines alone that went up in smoke?
Kula66 Posted December 18, 2005 Posted December 18, 2005 Great piece of kit - shame. What span is that thing? ... looks about 6' high at the tail ....
Yellonet Posted December 18, 2005 Posted December 18, 2005 I hope it was insured :p Kind of reminds me of this crash i7-2600k@4GHz, 8GB, R9 280X 3GB, SSD, HOTAS WH, Pro Flight Combat Pedals, TIR5
emenance Posted December 19, 2005 Posted December 19, 2005 looks like some thick grass there, yeah hopefully the engines survived. Guest ruggbutt Posted December 19, 2005 Posted December 19, 2005 I hope they scrambled the SAR choppers.
Pilotasso Posted December 19, 2005 Author Posted December 19, 2005 Whats that thing next to the B-52 tail on the pic above? .
Guest IguanaKing Posted December 19, 2005 Posted December 19, 2005 I didn't see any 'chutes, so it'll probably just be a recovery mission. :(
bSr.LCsta Posted December 19, 2005 Posted December 19, 2005 hehe chutes. I saw Gunny on the history channel take a ride in a 52. Only the pilot and co pilot get the ejection seats. Everyone else hase to jump out the bottom ;) is this ok?
Yellonet Posted December 19, 2005 Posted December 19, 2005 Whats that thing next to the B-52 tail on the pic above? One of the hatches that blow open to allow the ejection seats free travel? I don't know. i7-2600k@4GHz, 8GB, R9 280X 3GB, SSD, HOTAS WH, Pro Flight Combat Pedals, TIR5
AndyHill Posted December 19, 2005 Posted December 19, 2005 It was very windy on the day of the crash. I think the model was on a downwind leg and the pilot overestimated the airspeed when he started turning and the plane just lost lift and stalled. I can't imagine how he must have felt. ________________________________________________________ Lock on must have toe-brake functionality with differential braking! Force_Feedback Posted December 19, 2005 Posted December 19, 2005 That reminds me this. http://www.propnuts.net/Videos/B52_bomber_2.wmv That was because they let a jerkwad fly that B-52, taking 3 others with him, RIP. The B-52 model crashed a year ago, so the video is not that new, but yes, I guess the guy that flew it is pretty screwed, even now. EDIT: the b-52 does have ejection seats for the crewmembers sitting at the bottom, but they eject downward, and are even crappier than the upward firing seats, so they're bad for crew morale. JaNk0 Posted December 19, 2005 Posted December 19, 2005 OMG, that look tough to controll, too bad it crashed, but nice first landing :D [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Tigerwolf Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 yeah the b-52 ejection seats have to eject downward because of the large tail on the plane. my uncle was a crew member on a b-52 during vietnam. he used the ejection seat once when he was stationed over here. they were on a mission and he saw the eject light and punched out. a second later the wing ripped off and the rest of his crew wasnt able to eject because the plane was spinning so fast. the plane had some nukes on it (2 or 4) and they are still in the ground. when the air force tried to dig them up they were in some type of sand. when they would dig the nukes would just go deeper. i cant remember what state this happened in, it might have been in north carolina. when he came down in his chute he landed on a barn and broke his leg. he then went to the land owners front door and told them what had happened, then went to the hospital. to bad the jackass pilot in the video had to take down good people with him in that accident.
dynamocl Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 Its a very old video (welcome to the internet). The guys explained that when he was controlling it, he got diorientated and misjudged the horizon, the aircraft stalled, and he couldn't get control before hitting the ground. Nothing survived, the full length video shows the wreckage site, just lots of burnt corn, debris and some elderly/middle aged men crying. Rather funny really. If you look around on the net you will find loads of jet powered radio controlled model aircraft. There is a nice A-10 around, and you can't tell if its real or not when you see it flying (due to poor lack of scale judgment on our behalf). The model jet F-15s are very fast. Can't find teh good looking A-10 - but there are a few examples on this site. (look at the events photos) http://www.bvmjets.com/
