STP Dragon
Hi guys, do anybody know how long a F18 with 3 external tanks and 100% fuel is able to escort a AWACS on a race track or a Tanker flying a orbit? 1-2 hours?? How can I tell them "if your fuel is low -> refuel and then continue with the escorting" ?? ENO
Just put in a time condition for "rtb bingo fuel." I change mine out every hour if that helps? STP Dragon
Are they not able to refuel at the tanker and then continue to escort them? blkspade
Are they not able to refuel at the tanker and then continue to escort them? Barring the occasional broken AI behavior, one would have to make sure to have the Naval (Drogue and Probe) variant available as opposed to the Air Force boom model. Assuming the tanker even being there may be intended for human use pretty much means air force. So one would have to include 2 tankers, or switch the escort craft to F-15s or F16s. http://104thphoenix.com/
STP Dragon
Oooohh... stupid me... I just forgot the F-18 has a other tanker system for the basket thing... Grimes
The only tanker in game that has a decent amount of fuel for the drouge system is the Il-76M. And yes NATO aircraft can refuel from it just fine. The S-3B can also refuel em, but its meant to give aircraft a little extra fuel if needed to land on the carrier. The right man in the wrong place makes all the difference in the world. STP Dragon
I exchanged the F-18 with a F-15E. Very nice 3D Modle. The F-15's are following the Tanker and the AWACS and try to refuel automatically once they are empty. (you don't need to do something for it) I wrote "try" because most times they missed the boom and retry to connect till the fuel is empty and they crashed. (I will report this to ED) Homepage: Spare-Time-Pilots DCS:BlackShark v1.0.2: BLINDSPOTs EditorMod DRAGONs ArmA2-Sounds DRAGONs BS1 TRAININGPACK DRAGONs MISSIONPACK [bS & FC2] DCS:World: TM WARTHOG PROFIL FOR BS2 DRAGONs BS2_TRAININGPACK DRAGONs TRAININGPACK DRAGONs MISSIONPACK
HiJack
Yes there are a bug in the AI refueling. But I managed to get both the F-15C and F-15E to refuel with these settings: Tanker initial speed 444 Km/h (240 knots) AI aircraft escorting / or flying same speed and given a "refuel" command. Druid_
AI refuelling was not particularly good. It has been reported and last time I checked it was fixed, just waiting for testers build to migrate to a patch or 1.2.5 Edit: When I reported it, it was 2 Su33s and the Russian tanker. I'll have to go back and check the F18s also. i7-7700K : 16Gb DDR4 2800 Mhz : Asus Mobo : 2TB HDD : Intel 520 SSD 240gb : RTX 2080ti: Win10 64pro : Dx10 : TrackiR4 : TM Warthog : ASUS ROG SWIFT PG348Q
STP Dragon
Yesterday I had serious trouble with the A.I. I had two F-15's escorting a AWACS (left and right low) and one F-15 escorting a Tanker (left high). I set the fuel of the AWACS to 10% and watched the show. The AWACS was not able to catch the boom of the tanker. Maybe because of the escorting F-15's. I reported it. ENO
After some pretty thorough testing on the formation flying aspects of the AI in 1.2.4's latest patch I've concluded that you're going to need about 200 feet of spacing between aircraft in general. Granted, in a few instances I was able to maintain slightly less (125-150') but generally this resulted in erratic behavior across the board. I'm wondering if, as you have assumed, the E3 and the F-15s weren't within that range? What I have done in my tanker missions- when AI are to come in and refuel, is I have them follow with a stop condition of 10 minute duration (because the counter starts when the waypoint action is started from what I can tell... so if it takes 5 minutes to catch up to the tanker and follow it from the prescribed distance, then it would follow for 5 additional minutes). Then I hit "refuel" and at that point almost without fail the AI unit hooks up for a set amount of time (doesn't seem to matter how much fuel is onboard- I think it ALWAYS hooks up as if it's nearly empty). I talk about it in a bit more detail here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=106572 Edited June 6, 2013 by ENO "ENO" Type in anger and you will make the greatest post you will ever regret.
