Testing my mission, added a single Mi-8 with the new gun pods, only because they can now have weapons. Once he reached the target, I knew because the gun pods reduced my FPS from a steady 50 to 3.

I understand these gun pods put out a serious amount of lead, but.. jeez! it's not like he was even close to me, I wasn't even looking at him when he started firing either :(

Eh... pardon my stupidity here, but I'm running the latest version and when I open the editor & plonk down an Mi-8MT there're no weapons available to it whatsoever

Don't mistake "FPS" for being graphics only.

Simulation runs in frames too. The graphics engine needs to know what is where before it can paint a picture. It gets this information from the simulation engine.

...and if you put a couple thousand new bodies requiring complete ballistic calculations into the environment... bad things can happen for the simulation engine.

Hopefully there are optimizations that can be made though, even if it would be to simplify the ballistics involved.

The GUV YakB GSHP pods dropped my f/s from 30 to 13. The other 2 pods were OK.

How do I make a new payload?

DCS -> mission editor -> drop down an Mi-8MT -> change tasking to CAS -> loadout editor -> press "new"

Why not make weapons calculations on it's own core, like sounds. Or are ED waiting for EDGE?

If you guys holding back for 2 core owners, just make it Automatic, so if there's one more free core, use it?

Just tested this one.

Seems it has the same issue as the CBU's. Number of objects.

Before it started firing, object count was at about 300. As soon as it started spitting lead, object count climbed to over 8000 objects...

IIRC each round is an object, and then each time it impacts each round renders the explosion effect. We have had this problem, not just from the AI, since the beginning of LOMAC.

When I was looking at it before the FPS drop seemed to coincide more with the rounds hitting the ground and the explosion being rendered, than at the start of the firing and the object count going up.

Maybe different these days. There used to be a mod to replace the explosion and smoke effect that helped a lot.
