I've seen this happen sometimes too, always thought it was strange, especially losing all three.

At Lambert in St.Louis a few years ago the airport was choked full of airplanes with nowhere to go in a grid-lock on the taxiway with an emergency coming in to land. Aircraft were told to just roll off onto the grass to get away from the runway!

Ah, but this is DCS, where all ground surfaces other than runways and taxiways appear to be made of 1 foot deep superglue. Might be nice to have some way to "tow" yourself onto/off of the grass so that you could both clear the runway and recover from crashes.

With regards to repairing on the runway, I think we're talking about two separate kinds of game you might be playing. Sometimes it would be appropriate to repair on the runway, sometimes you would just be annoying people and getting in the way, it all depends who you're playing with, and how much realism you're interested in.

I'm sure some do it to just be annoying. Although it wouldn't hurt for folks who are after the 'realism' to be courteous enough to consider landing along one side of the runway if possible and rolling as far down the runway as they can (assuming serious gear failure or two engine failure, only scenarios I can think of where taxi'ing isn't an option).

Although, in the REAL world, airplanes are expendable, pilots are not. At least in the USAF, pilots won't attempt risky landings. They'll limp it close to home and eject. Heck, fighter pilots have ejected here in the US on training missions because of bird strikes flaming out an engine. They COULD glide it in to land, or it could stall at the last second and crash short of the runway. Rather than risk it, they point it in a safe direction and hop out!

So maybe true 'realism' is if your aircraft cannot safely land and taxi, to just get close to base and bail out, with the aircraft pointed away from any friendlies. Although the way some of these folks fly they have perfectly good airplanes until AFTER they touch down :P Then after screaming in at 210 knots and a 1500fpm decent they say the landing gear is too weak!

The main point I was attempting is for me, getting all three tires shot off every time I get hit is something which only started happening recently. Prior, I could take a quite of bit of damage and still land and roll out mostly normally. The game doesn't care in single player what I do to exit the plane as long a my pilot is alive and the plane landed when I exit, so I'm not really concerned about it. What I'm noticing in all the posts about what to do with the plane after landing, I'm not seeing anyone who appears to have the same tires shot off problem I do (because no one is taking damage?) So it's looking like a unique problem to me.

Just the other day I was in a mission with some friend, took an Igla hit to my left wing, did plenty of damage, but only lost the wheel on the wing side where I took damage.

So I haven't seen this issue myself.

Warning: Nothing I say is automatically correct, even if I think it is.

Weird. I still get the issue. Any damage whatsoever to the underside of the aircraft, whether a SAM hit or just a few small holes from small arms fire or something; and I have no wheels. ANY damage, and I have no wheels. Just three struts.

yea i got hit in the nose with some machine gun fire the other day and all of my wheels popped off..., rest of my gear was still there, just the wheels gone...

Well , Im confused !

Last night I got hit by a Strela ..... both engines out , one vert stab in half , holes big and small in both wings , and both engine nacelle's ..... all tyres intact . Tried to glide home , almost made it and had to eject about 200 feet before threshold .

Not bad!

A real A-10 pilot would've probably ejected once he got it as close to home as possible anyway!

I rarely eject. Ejecting doesn't do anything for you but maybe save a little pride, sometimes it's fun to see if you can get it on the ground! :P

That has happened to me too, actually. Almost seems like severe damage models are ok (maybe a blown tire but the WHEELS are still there), but any light damage the wheels DISAPPEAR. Not just tires popped (I've had that happen), but all three wheels, always all three wheels, are completely gone.

This has recently started to happen to me as well. Every minor damage I receive results in all three wheels completely gone. Seems kinda strange, considering there are never any blown tires, as there were before, and it happens no matter where I get hit.

I'm starting to get quite good at landing on the struts but I kinda miss the regular emergency landings with at least a few functioning wheels... :smilewink:
