You know how bad the support system is here, right? My buddy has been waiting 9 weeks for a reply.

Well he's still more likely to get help in the end than if he just ranted and swore...

It's funny people can come in here all disgruntled, spouting the foulest insults against something we all treasure, and in return the majority of us offer nothing but kind assistance. This really is a gentleman's forum. :)

I'd have poured this program down the sink like flat soda in a month if I'd come into DCS at this point without having followed the progression or knowing how to help myself... Fortunately I got about 6 months in when we were at 1.1.1.1 and got the DCS infection. It's helped me survive through all this.

Now I work night and day to try to have the fun that I had then...

Haha, that was my gameplan, I almost expected him to come back here and spout of more bullshit, in which case I planned to be even more friendly and maybe even drop the not so subtle insults. =)

@Eno, I hear this 1.1.1.1 tale from time to time, mostly by you. Care to elaborate for someone who only knows DCS:W(see join date) what exactly was better then?

Really all I saw was sneering at my rage with precious few helpful posts. I was raged obviously I am only one who can get mad when something does not work even though there is no apparent reason for it to be broken.

You could try plugging your serial into Steam. That might work.

Thanks man that worked. Turns out that DCS world downloaded from origin/steam is different from the ED website one. It is visible from the main menu the steam/origin version lacks module manger and auto-update, also some module icons are missing in the bottom left menu. So when I tried to use the serial from Origin on regular DCS world it did not work but when I put it in Steam activation dialogue it activated without any problems.

Is it still possible to get the old 1.1.1.1 ver. from steam? Might it be he has this one? Doesn't sound like DCS:World to me. Check in the right bottom cornor, does it say v. 1.2.5?

I am glad you sorted it out, welcome to the DCS (world) :)

It helps to strike a tone that is friendly and truly seeking help. Most of the members here are willing to help and mature in manners. Myself I love DCS and the community as most here do. It bothers me when someone comes in and slams the product without considering the efforts in development. Dont take it personal please. :)

Good to see you managed the installation and enjoy. Your experience should serve someone else, if they bother to to take advantage of the search function.

Steam version lacks Module manager because Steam itself handles this and auto-update.

Some module icons are missing on steam because they are not yet released on Steam, FC3 (will not be released on Steam due to licensing issues with Ubisoft) and UH-1 (soon).

Well- first you have to keep in mind that I don't fly anything but the A-10C so it was very easy for me to be content by it.

Next you didn't have a brand new platform (DCSW) trying to integrate what essentially ends up being 3 beta platforms at once- FC3, CA and UH1... Meanwhile taking stand alone sims like KA50 and A-10C (stand alone technically because they weren't embedded in the World environment but that could be played together) and trying to ensure they all play nice together.

Many people forget that what ED was / is attempting has not ever been tried before so we of course are expected to tolerate a certain number of problems. I get it... we all get it... and with the exception of some short fuses (mine included) I think the community has done a pretty good job sustaining itself. With that being said, we have endured a LOT of problems and whether they were to be expected or not if someone didn't have any perspective on exactly how good it could get then they'd have much less reason to stay.

For the guy who could care less if someone has some broken arcade game style flight sim / ground combat sim built into what we had originally with KA50 / A10C... 1.1.1.1 was the perfect experience. Today I suppose you could still just make missions with only the A-10C and the KA-50... but you still have all the problems associated with all the other modules whether or not you'd ever used them or downloaded them at all. Might as well put them in the missions and expand the demographic in the server.

In 1.1.1.1 our graphics were smoother, we had our fancy wingtip vortices, gameplay was more stable and we didn't have the influx of gamers who want to push buttons and see explosions at the expense of others having to type complete flight manuals in the chat function so they can get in the air to do so.

Anyway- not to rant on the hurdles... my comment was meant to highlight that 1.1.1.1 was a streamlined, simple platform that was easy to invest time into and enjoy- not invest time into just to make work.

Starforce on Windows 98 was the worst DRM Ever..

Mess up installing and it kicked your HDD and Optical Drives down to PIO Mode, and Eventually disabled them altogether, forcing a windows re-install.

Your comments make a lot of sense. Given that I've only flew online a handful of times and taking into account the current haphazard fps situation, I'm actually contemplating running a 1.1.1.1 install again.
