GodsPrototype Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 I'm not a developer, I was just wondering, as other developers sometimes release their engine for free, if ED released the DCS engine as well. I can't find anything about it, but I thought I might just ask just cause I'm curious. Cause if it's not, how do you develop aircraft without the engine? Do you use something like 3Ds MAX to develop the models? Thanks in advance! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
cichlidfan Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 No on the 'engine' being released. 3Ds Max along with some ED tools are used for the models. Here is a thread about the ED tools. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=86205 ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Hero, i7-6700K, Noctua NH-D14 Cooler, Crucial 32GB DDR4 2133, Samsung 950 Pro NVMe 256GB, Samsung EVO 250GB & 500GB SSD, 2TB Caviar Black, Zotac GTX 1080 AMP! So there is no such thing as a DCS engine, like lets say the frostbite engine that includes all the tools etc. , am I right? Everything is guilt outside the actual DCS engine and put in? Thanks [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
cichlidfan Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 That would be a question for ED's devs or a 3rd party dev. joey45 Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 Thanks. So there is no such thing as a DCS engine, like lets say the frostbite engine that includes all the tools etc. , am I right? Everything is guilt outside the actual DCS engine and put in? Thanks indeed. I have made a few ships in 3ds max and plunked them in the mods folder with a LUA file that tells the game what it is. The new EDGE [Eagle Dynamics Graphic Engine] is still being made. The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. Irregular programming Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 You are talking about a toolset, edge has nothing to do with it. It might include some better tools for third party developers but its not edge as it has been described. The whole point of DCS is that you do not need engine access to add modules.

blkspade Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 I believe the term you intended to use was SDK as opposed to engine. http://104thphoenix.com/
Ells228 Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 Yes, 3d max will get your model in the DCS sim. A little lua scripting will help that but for full cockpit integration you need the C# library from the SDK which is only available to ED partners and 3rd party developers under licence agreement. It's quite a bit different from Frostbite and CryEngine editor tools. You essentially use the mods folder to "add" your vehicle/building/ship/plane into the sim. Hope that helps.
joey45 Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 ^^ It's plane easy to add models. No grinding your gears or swimming oceans and climbing mountains to add stuff...... except for the coding stuff. The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.
