atoll1 Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 (edited) When I move my head left and right of the main HUD, I have what appears to be a helmet mounted display (HMD) showing the HUD symbology following my head movements. That's great! However, in the latest v1.2.5 of DCS+FC3, the HMD doesn't seem to be at the center of my head movements. I use a triplehead2go and trackIR5 and the HMD is off-center enough that when I point my head left or right of the HUD, I have to strain my eyes to look in the opposite direction to properly see the HMD. So, for example, if I turn my head to the right, the HMD appears further to the left (the HMD appears closer to the main-center HUD itself so that I have to strain my eyes left to look at it). Conversely, if I turn my head to the left, the HMD appears further to the right (the HMD appears closer to the main-center HUD itself so that I have to strain my eyes right to look at it). It seemed centered properly in earlier versions, and was definitely working fine in FC2. Am I the only one reporting this? Did a search and didn't see anyone else reporting this. Can ED or one of the moderators pass this along to ED, just in case this is something to look into? Thank you! Hope this was supportive and helpful to ED. Edited August 25, 2013 by atoll1
159th_Falcon Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 What aircraft does this apply to? All russian fighters? Or only a specific one. Or maybe the KA-50? Also, could you make a screenshot showing the HMD in the wrong place and maybe add a circle or something whit paint to show us where you think it should be? Don't use the HMD all that often myself so no idea if its a game issue or something or your machine. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] The keeper of all mathematical knowledge and the oracle of flight modeling.:)
atoll1 Posted August 25, 2013 Author Posted August 25, 2013 I tested the HMD on the A-10A and F-15C. I should also add that I understand there may be a limit to the angle of the HMD, but what I'm trying to describe doesn't have anything to do with the limit because I'm referring to turning my head within the limits i.e., even before I reach the HMD limit the HMD is off-center. thanks for your response 159th_Falcon. It's kinda hard to post a screenshot that makes much sense, since a screenshot will not show where my TIR5 head is in relation to the HMD. (I hope that makes sense) For that matter, I have a plain vanilla 1.2.5 DCS+FC3 (no mods added yet). again, I just wanted to report it just in case it's something ED should know about (with TIR5 and triplehead2go).
Maverick-X Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 None of these Aircraft have an HMD... Is there an actual option to generate one? Or perhaps it is the normal "movement" of the HUD that you are referring to? The HUD is a projected Display. No matter what angle you look at it, you will always see a CCIP-Pipper for example at the place of Impact, as long as your line of sight goes through the HUD down to the Point ofc... If your HUD really behaves strange, a screenshot or better a video would be good.
cichlidfan Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 (edited) Do you have the Mini-hud turned on in Options>Gameplay? From the Options>Gameplay section of the DCS World User Guide (pg. 32): Mini HUD. If flying Flaming Cliffs 3 aircraft, this options allows you to enable/disable the Mini HUD that provides basic HUD symbols to always be displayed regardless of where the view is directed. Biggles07 Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 (edited) Do you have the Mini-hud turned on in Options>Gameplay? From the Options>Gameplay section of the DCS World User Guide (pg. 32): It sounds to me like atoll does have the mini-hud option enabled chichlidfan as he states that the HUD symbology is visible when looking left-right, while otherwise it would not appear if not checked. :) I don't use the mini-hud option for FC3 aircraft myself usually but tried it and can confirm that the aircraft datum + alt-airspeed info is not centred on your viewpoint (with TrackIR 5 at least) using the same DCS build as the OP says. When looking to the left, it is offset markedly from your centre viewpoint to the right.....the converse is true looking right. Maybe this is as it should be by design, I don't know. I may be wrong and memory is hazy, but I seem to recall it was the same in FC2......still have it on hard disk and will check it out later (V 1.2.1 I think). Coming back to this genre after a long absence. Sounds similar to the BS2 HMS problem too (not centred when zooming in specifically in that case), I think there was a 'fix' for this on the shark forums somewhere recently involving altering lua files.....Maybe there is something similar that can be done in this case too? Doesn't bother me terribly personally as I don't normally use it....but there is an offset in both keyboard pan views and with TrackIR (intentional or otherwise). :) Edited August 26, 2013 by Biggles07 ♫ ' Papa was a hairy mole.....Wherever he dug a den was his home ' ♫
atoll1 Posted August 27, 2013 Author Posted August 27, 2013 (edited) Thanks all for your replies. You're right - I checked and it is indeed the mini-HUD (I think it's p35 of the DCS manual), and not the HMD as I incorrectly assumed. Thank you Biggles for confirming this issue on your rig too...it's comforting to know I'm not the only one! (At least it's posted here for anyone else doing a search in our forums on this issue) Unfortunately, the problem remains in that the mini-HUD is off center, and requiring me to turn my head one way with the TrackIR 5 (and triplehead2go) and straining my eyes to look at the mini-HUD. Don't know if this is a "feature". Either way, can someone pass it along to ED just so they know, just in case? Thanks! Or how does one go about editing the lua files for the mini-HUD? Atoll, I do not know for sure if it is possible to edit files lua or otherwise to solve the problem, this was just speculation on my part and maybe worth checking if you can. Not my forte.....Sorry I cannot be of further help. However I do know that some things are 'hardcoded' into the sim (an example of which is the padlock cross cursor which someone recently enquired about how to remove.....to find out that it is not possible). Maybe the mini-hud cannot be changed either. No idea. I'm not much good, am I? :D Forget to mention since this is placed in the 'Multi-Monitor Support' section that this occurs with a single monitor setup too.....Not solely your 3 monitor setup (I usually use two myself, one for MFCD/TGP, but not at the moment). atoll1 Posted August 29, 2013 Author Posted August 29, 2013 Biggles, No prob - thanks for confirming the problem in the first place - that was helpful and supportive! I'll wait patiently for ED or one of the moderators...
