Prepare to scream like a manly girl - A Machine for Pigs is out!

This time it takes on a more mature experience i.e. the game relies more on messing with your mind rather than throwing jumpscares at you. A jumpscare may happen to you soon after you finish playing the game... or sometime later... :sly:

Amnesia games - the way it's meant to be played!

For everyone:

- do not watch playthrough videos, especially with clowns commenting

- do not read about the story, monsters etc.

- play with decent headphones

- adjust your gamma level using the built-in tool and as instructed upon first game start

For those who'd like to amplify the experience:

- play alone (in fact it's more important than playing in the dark)

- play with cold feet ;)

DCS AJS37 HACKERMAN

There will always be bugs. If everything is a priority nothing is.

Just a little correction : The game is not from the creators of Amnesia : Dark Descent and Penumbra . It's made by The Chinese Room, not Frictional games. So I would wait for a few reviews before buying.

But the FG house had the final word on most of the vital elements of the game. They were producers of the game. TCR were the actual developers.

An announcment from the official forum

EDIT:

Just started playing... The way it's meant to be played that is. Wow. It feels so much more polished. And I'm not talking about grpahics here, nor the sound alone. Ah, the sound design. That time when I heard something slowly dragging some big piece of meta... I could almost tell the shape of the object... As for the story. Let's just say I won't be watching any films anytime soon.

EDIT:

A great reply to all those whining that AAMFP is not ATDD.

Do you whiny lot complaining about a lack of gameplay realize that's just as bad as people complaining that the original game didn't have guns? The direction TCR took this game is to emphasize narrative and atmosphere. They sacrificed minor gameplay elements (inventory, puzzles, etc.) to this effect. If they had had more complicated puzzles and tons of interactable objects, it would rob (or at the least hinder) the game of its purpose: to tell a compelling, thought-provoking narrative. This doesn't make it less of game, it's just a game with a slightly different focus than the original game.

And if you're going to complain about the lack of gameplay compared to TDD, TDD wasn't exactly an action-packed experience either. TDD wasn't about gameplay as far as puzzles and the inventory went, it was about atmosphere and narrative. TCR just took one step further.

And this isn't a direct sequel to TDD. This wasn't advertised in any way as "Amnesia: The Dark Descent 2.0 (Now With Pigs!)". This was obviously a separate entity from TDD, and comparing them to the extent that people have been isn't fair.

And I'm frankly shocked that anybody is surprised. TCR told us a long time ago what they were doing and why. We knew there wouldn't be an inventory. We knew the puzzles would be simplified. It should have been obvious narrative was the focus here. But instead, too many of you all can't look past the lack of gameplay (which honestly really isn't that far removed from TDD) to realize what an amazing game "pigs" is.

If you want more gameplay, go play Dead Space: it has an inventory, puzzles, and gameplay to boot.

Couldn't have said it better. Also some elements in AAMFP are by a magnitude better than in ATDD, and not only the sound design (altough mainly the sound design).

Another one:

I agree with this OP. Wholeheartedly.

People wanted TDD2, and didn't get it, so like children they throw tantrums for support from other posters with the same simpleton mentality. They don't want to have to think about the story and its metaphorical implications - they just want to run around and have monsters chase them.

This game's atmosphere is brilliant, and playing at night with 1.15 gamma setting (which makes it way darker with the lit areas still lit perfectly, as well as makes the blue haze almost unnoticeable) makes it all the better, and the story kicks ♥♥♥. The nods to Animal Farm (fantastic book), Shakespear, and various other mediums are top notch for the most part, and the game is pretty damn tense.

Still, if people play the game in a way it is not intended to be played by the developers they should not complain that they didn't have particularly much fun. It is possible to play Counter-Strike only using a knife. It is possible to play Minecraft without building anything. But wouldn't you find it irritating if players who played this way complained about never getting to the enemy before getting shot or having nothing to do?
