Hi

I just spent 4000 euros in a new flightsim computer, running under Windows 7 Pro 64 bits

The problem is that the joystick of the Warthog system is not recognized by Windows. It appears correctly in the devices list, but does not appear in TARGET, nor any simulation, but the Throttle does.

To make things worst, when trying to update the joystick firmware, I get this warning:

error timeout device should have arrived in HID, code 0x34100002

I also have firmware problems with my old HOTAS Cougar in this same computer. Now the Cougar joystic is also dead.

I am very very VERY frustrated, as I have tried all the tricks in the book, plus some new ones, and do not work at all. Also the Bootloader method recomended by TrhusMaster is useless.

Any Ideas?????

Maybe should I try another operating system????

Maybe is the motherboard????

I feel as I have thrown away very hard earned 4000 euros. Now this computer makes no sense for me anymore.

Thank you

Not much help to you, but I have been running TM Warthog with Win 7 64 bit since the stick was first released and while I haven't used the TARGET software, I've had no probs with the Stick or the Throttle. So probably just an installation issue. Keep trying :)

I'm betting 64-bit Win 7 is what most folks around here use, so I'd doubt the OS is your problem. I for one use both the Cougar and Warthog and have had no issues (I don't use TARGET at all).

Have you tried connecting the stick to a different computer? Were the stick and throttle both up-to-date on their firmware? Are you connecting through a USB hub?

Hi gadget. Had a problem very like that in my old rig (same os) and it was directly related to usb ports on the PC motherboard. Devices incl TM stick and stick was failing frequently or did not pop up at all. Can't say cause is the same in your case but try different USB ports and only use good quility powered USB hubs (if you already do that also try swap the hub connect usb cable just in case. And verify functionallity on a secondary PC ( avoid all firmware upgrade attempts till the basic funtions been verified)

I have also been using the Warthog, with Target, for two years now. The OS is not the issue.

Hi Gadget,

Not sure if this will help but I used to have a little problems with the USB once in a while. I found this from CubPilot under PeterP Sticky "corrupt calibration...":

http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1474117&postcount=11

The USBDeview lets you remove the USB connection/drivers which are not in use to clean up the list. Basically you can remove everything and start all over. Once removed then disconnect the TM WH and reconnect it.

Hope you get it to work

Cheers

I have experienced something similar to this and the root cause was the plug on the stick grip was not properly seated to the connector on the base where it threads in.

What i saw in windows was that the stick was detected but no axis or buttons were there.

In TARGET the stick was also not detected nor in any game

Try re-seating the stick grip to the base by taking it off and putting it back on

I just reread the first post again from home PC (1st was via my iphone, to small screen) 4k Euro ? Must be a mean monster machine ;-)

Understand your frustration. Some other steps are to check the motherboards current firmware etc and USB port driver installed versions for possibly known issues and avalible updates on manufacturers site (if not made already)

Cheers

I know it's probably a silly question....

Did you just download the TARGET-Software?

There is also a windows-driver you need for your HOTAS to work as well:

http://ts.thrustmaster.com/download/pub/webupdate/HotasWT/2011_TMHW_1.exe

Also make sure to use USB2.0-Ports. I read on some forum, there might be a problem with USB3.0-Ports.

(Don't have that issue, though - might be chipset-problem)

Thank you to all for your help

I do suspect an electrical problem somehow.

As soo as I swtiched the computer on, my old (perfectly working) HOTAS Cougar stoped functioning. Problems with drivers and Windows 64 bits solved, Firmware was lost and unable to reflash again.

Same happened with HOTAS Warthog.

Tried everything. Contacting ThrustMaster they sugested changing the unit for a new one. Reading in other forums, this solved the problem. Being a 2 year old unit, althought not used yet, chances are that some series were defective.

I managed to recover the Cougar by canibalizing the circuit board from another old unit. Now it works fine.

The Warthong, nevertheless, is dead.

And believe me I have tried everything you have sugested here, and more. Read all forums. Downloades drivers, software tools, flashed with the sugested method TM sent to me, etc....

Dead

I am afraid I will have to expend some extra 475 euros for a new one and use the old one for spares.

Thank you again.

Yes

I do have USB 3.0 ports. It is what the computer has... nothing I can do about it.

I also used an USB hub, self stabilized electrically and plugged to the electrical socket, and it does not work either

thank you

Just a silly question Gadget, but if you connect the warthog to another PC does it work or not? Perhaps buying a 2nd hand one and canalising that might be cheaper?

I've never used or installed the Target software. No need really.

No. I does not work

I have tried different systems: Win XP Home, Win 8 Home, Win 7 Pro 64, Win Vista Home.

Once the firmware is spoiled, it does not work in any system.

The is no chance to update flash the firmware once is was partially loaded. Then the joystick becomes unrecognezable by any system

There were quite a few reports of dead Warthogs back then, about 2 years ago. That seems to be better now with the current devices and their new firmware. Search here and with google for "warthog" and "bricked" - maybe you find something usefull.

Btw, there is a short How-To on the net from Thrustmaster that explains how to reset a dead HOTAS so that it's firmware can be updated again (meant as help if a previous firmware update was aborted ... but perhaps worth a try for you, too). If I stumble upon that How-To again, I post a link here.
