Most of the time I had my CMS in Auto or Semi-Auto mode.

After a while I got fed up by the system deploying for instances chaffs although I was out of range or not automatically switching to a heavy flare program while being pursued by a missile.

So now I create my own programs.

-) One for deploying preemptively deploying chaffs while being tracked

-) One where I deploy chaffs and flares in certain intervals when making a run in on targets

-) One heavy chaff program when I know I got something on my tail

My question is how do you guys quickly switch between those programs in manual mode?

Is there any way to quickly switch programs or even manually deploy for instance chaffs (overriding the current program)?

Is there any way to quickly switch programs

HOTAS CMS hat switch left or right to step through the programs?

PS: maybe you want to consider a "heavy flare" program for manpads? :o)

How do you change the default settings? I know you can program the CMS while in cockpit; however that has to be done every time you want to fly. Is it possible to change it permanently?

Yes - I meant heavy flare not chaff

So besides manually switching between programs and activating the program there is no other way to quickly fire away flares?

Im asking because in the Falcon F-16 you could manually fire flare/chaff - don't know if that was realistic at all?!

Not in a regular way. You could probably write some macro function for your joystic that selects automatically the chaff or the flare programm on a single button press, though.

I work something of a 2 click system... My default is a single flare- more just for signalling a wingie. A click to the right is a lazy single flare pattern with 10 or so cycles for a run in... and a second right click is a "holy F" pattern that is two flares every .5 seconds for 6 cycles.

I run a similar setup to the left click for Chaff.

Likely not perfect but it's simple to setup and though I don't believe the game currently respects the pre-emptive flaring / chaffing... it's just a habit I want to be into for when it does. I'm sure that time is getting close (but probably farther off than two weeks ;) ) .

I usually also run 3 custom programs to cover being tracked (chaff), for gun runs (flares), and for when things get ugly (both at a high rate). Usually these are programs A, B and C respectively. I default to B which is the one I mainly use. That puts programs A and C at one flick either up or down on the CMS button. Haven't yet had a need for a 4th program. I don't try to be conservative with my use of flares and chaff. I'd rather go home with low/empty stores of countermeasures than not at all.

Is it possible to change the Program selected by the (semi)Auto function? I've added custom profiles at the end so I wont interfere with the original profiles. I don't think I'll use (semi)Auto, but just in case...

Why I'm asking: it just would be convenient to move my own profiles at the beginning while (semi)Auto still selects the correct profiles which changed position.

As far as I have read Semi-Auto just selects the program slot according to defined threats. It is hard-coded in a config file (don't know where that is).

It is not very "intelligent" or modeled according to the real counter-measure system.
