Airway Posted October 12, 2013 Author Posted October 12, 2013 The problem is, they changed the specs while everybody kept their systems. The ones with fast systems were lucky and were not affected and the ones with medium and slower computers were doomed. If I had known that in advance, and had the option to choose whether to buy the new version with highter specs or not, I had not bought it. This way I could still run DCS and all the modules I had bought till then still smoothly and prepare to buy a new faster system in the future while leaving out newer modules till then. But the way they went now, affected all my DCS modules and I only have the option to buy a new system now. Wait, no I don't have that option as I can't print money. I wish they had informed the community more transparently about this in advance.

Well, my friend, DCS is the beast that can knock every system to it's knees regardless of it's specs and power, my rig is to be considered as a pretty decent one (specs below). And what I have in the multiplayer: sometimes 16 fps without any hardware bottlenecking. The engine itself cannot manage to output the proper stuff. E.g. I think that in multiplayer the client loads every single players viewing distance lod. And that is why you have massive lag even if you are 10kms out watching towards the airport. Let' s say there are 6 aircrafts there every one of them see each other so every model is fully with full poly +the airport structures + physics + textures etc. You cannot even see them but DCS still draw the models and calculate as well... voila the whole stuff is overloaded and DX9 is not too good to manage all that it slows down like hell. Disclaimer: the above mentioned example is just an assumption based on observation and logic I have no factual evidence so might be completely wrong. Edited October 12, 2013 by Jeesus 1 TrailBlazer
Airway Posted October 13, 2013 Author Posted October 13, 2013 Well, there's rumours about a new game engine for DCS. Any hope they will consider existent performance issues in the development of the new engine? And what's the deal with Windows 8 which is already dead? I won't upgrade from my good working Windows 7. Not even when I upgrade my computers hardware.
Blaze Posted October 13, 2013 Posted October 13, 2013 Well, there's rumours about a new game engine for DCS. Rumors? Where have you been? Read this thread. :) 1 i7 7700K | 32GB RAM | GTX 1080Ti | Rift CV1 | TM Warthog | Win 10 "There will always be people with a false sense of entitlement. Not even when I upgrade my computers hardware. Gotta do for Windows 8 as Windows 9 will more than likely stem from there? The still to come Windows will force hardware upgrades, and if that doesn't work, 7 will eventually become outdated like XP now almost is (and '98/ ME/ Vista is) City Hall is easier to fight, than a boys' club - an observation :P "Resort is had to ridicule only when reason is against us." - Jefferson "Give a group of potheads a bunch of weed and nothing to smoke out of, and they'll quickly turn into engineers... its simply amazing." Airway Posted October 13, 2013 Author Posted October 13, 2013 Rumors? Where have you been? Read this thread. :) Was zum Henker? (wtf) :surprise: Well, mostly I've been into the cockpits, fighting the enemy. ;) But how that had been hidden beneath the Prism stuff, I don't know. Thanks for pointing me onto it! Doesn't make me more optimistic though. Maybe waiting with upgrading the computer, until EDGE is released.
henrique.r.filetti Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 Hey guys Same problem over here: Ive got: i5 2.30 GHz 4 Gb RAM Nvidia GT520M Windows 7, 64bits Game settings all on minimum... Can I allocate more memory or something like that? If possible, how can I undo this? My goal is to play, dont care much for visuals tks! Well as a lot of other users, I experience a strong perfrformance drop since version 1.2.6 of DCS, although nothing changed on my computer system (specs in sig). Even after reducing a lot of options in the DCS settings, there's still a lot of stuttering, fps drop, caching, micro freezes and so on. I read several other threads, wich were not helpful at all. I'm now down to following settings: Texture: High Scenery: High Traffic: Off Water: Low Visib Range: Medium Heat Blur: Off Shadows: Low Resolution: 1920x1080 Aspect Ratio: 16:9 Monitors: 1 Res. of Cockpit Displays: 512 MSAA: Off HDR: Off Clutter/Bushes: 0 Trees Visibility: 4741m Preload Radius: 37380m Disable Aero Interface: Yes Tree Shadows: Off Vsync: On Fullscreen: On Cockpit Shadows: Off TSSAA: Off Mini HUD: Off Mirrors: Off Birds: 0 As system I am using: Windows 7 Pro, 64bit Quadcore AMD Phenom II 955 4x3,2 Ghz CPU 4 GB RAM Nvidia GeFore GTX 460 SE with 327.23 driver Nothing useless running in the background. As I said, this system worked well with DCS pre 1.2.6 with most settings higher than now! So I have my hope you guys have some useful hints for me, how to optimize my DCS, so that it runs smoother. I have bought and installed all available DCS modules, so I spent some money. Would be nice if I could use it again. Not using mods in any way. Thanks in advance for any hint, Airway
