What sensor are the real life videos take from during maverick use?

I've been watching a lot of real. Life maverick videos and noticed something that isn't modeled in game.

When a Mav is fired, the video seems to be transmitted directly from the Mav sensor back to the pilot, so he can actually watch the target get closer and closer until impact.

. In game the sensor on works from mavs still in the pylon, and once it's fired, the video will go offline.

since the first use of A10s (gulf war) we have all been watching videos of mavs being led right to target, most famous being Gen Swartzkopf showing off the bridge getting hit (and one lucky Iraqi running through just before the impact).

Am I wrong about this?

I think what you are talking about are TV guided bombs like GBU-15 or AGM-62 Walleye TV-guided bomb (although I'm not sure the AGM-62 had a data link) not mavericks. Got any links to the videos you mean?

These are test firings. The video streaming is done by instrumentation specifically added to support the tests, it does not exist in operational missiles.

This is a test firing as well. Forget about what I said!!!!

Hard to forget that Dagger.

It would be awesome as a cut seen in future installments of any of the DCS titles, the immersion factor would go up immensely with that addition to the Simulators.

I think it's pretty cool that I can almost picture EXACTLY what that guy is doing in the cockpit while he's setting up the shot... doing that initial scan... settles on the 2 targets... fumbles a little with the slew- then I noticed that chinahat forward short to zoom in... slews across the target a couple times as the seeker establishes a good contrast lock... get the blinking "cross" followed by a countdown to "rifle."

Not going to lie- despite some of the things about this sim that make me mad sometimes (MP stability at the top of the list), the fact that I even just knew what I was talking about makes the occasional struggles worthwhile.

Nope, that there is another DCS inaccuracy. A blinking pointing cross is a bad thing, it means the lock is unlikely to survive launch. What you want is a solid pointing cross, which if you watch the video more closely is what you'll see.

And yes, before you ask, it is in the ever lengthening "to be fixed" list.

It's also a somewhat of a pity the video start with the Mav set to correct polarity so you don't see that working. Another aspect not modelled in DCS.

If you look at this vid from 24 seconds you'll see polarity and keyhole in action, or rather what happens when you forget (even the pros struggle sometimes).
