Reviving the LomacLeague

Recommended Posts

Hi @ll and S!

During my career as a LockOn online squad pilot I encountered two noteworthy efforts to boost the community´s international/intersquad activities:

One being the late Crimean Airwars (CAW) online campaign featuring promising mixed fighter-bomber wars.

The other one being the venerable LomacLeague (LL) http://www.lomacleague.com/index.php by S77th-Dante featuring gunzo, heaters-only and unrestricted (BVR) ladder action for single-pilot-, two-pilot- and unlimited-pilot-teams.

I recognize the admin workload problems crippling CAW but as for the LL there is an existing league system with rules, missions, mod and reporting system ready to use.

Over the last year, the LomacLeague suffered from the general recession of interest in LockOn that is slowly undermining the community, which is understandable, given the age of the game.

More and more pilots and teams quit and wandered off to mind their own business or to nowhere...

From former 70+ players in the 1vs.1 ladder we are now down to only 5.

And that despite the European Dogfight Champion 2005, =RvE=Paploo, joined the ladder only 2 months ago.

It´s getting boring to always fight against the same two or three guys...!

I see the huge amount of interest still present in this game and I don´t see any good reason not to revive the grand old online ladder of this community!

If you lead a squad and occasionally organize yourself some wars against other squads, why not use the LomacLeague for setting up the match and get the chance to meet further possible squadwar opponents?

If you love dogfight, why not challenge the official european champion in a well organised ladder system to see if you´re up to it?

In times where for several reasons community member numbers shrink around the globe we have to consolidate and focus our efforts and activities on things like one big online league that provides enough diversity for the veterans while being big enough to stand out and attract new community members.

Are you a vet that even only hazily remembers the fun he had in the good ol´ days? - Rejoin!

Are you a newbie that considers himself combat-ready and that hears from all this for the first time?

Join the LomacLeague!

Woody out.

That´s great news, Wolfie, thanks for the heads-up!

JaBoG32 will be happy to participate again!

Now back to LomacLeague:

CAW and LL are no competing features, they serve different interests.

CAW has mixed missions with official inter-squad preparations and briefings; has a developing political background story and only two sides where people and squads can sign up and fly side by side for their coalition.

LL is totally different and has much more e-sports character with ladders, rankings, stats and is much more flexible for the individual player/team to set up match times. It has much less organisational workload and offers great fun for those who prefer or don´t mind fighting in a more sterile and arena-like environment.

Since both systems have different appeal they perfectly coexist in an active online pilots life.

I enjoyed both of them at the same time for the diversitiy they offer and I had no problem keeping up simultaneous activity.

In contrast to CAW the LomacLeague does not need some more months for its comeback.

It is there and ready, you can sign up today and have your first match this weekend.

All it needs is people willing to overcome the first few months with still only few participants.

It´s a vicious circle for the good and for the bad: the more players, the more attractive for new ones and vice versa.

I think it would be worth trying, all we need is the will to lower our expectations at the beginning and stand true and wait for the "masses" to come.

Are you willing to turn this vicious circle into a good and prosperous one?

This project needs you!

I could help - if you or someone sends me a banner ( a vertical and an horizontal one ) and would answer any posts about it in Lockonfiles forum, I am sure it would generate some interest.

my best memories of lock on will be the matches that jabog32 & S77th had.

with some wins and losses on both sides.

special thanks to jabog32 Eagle 'golden eagle' S77th-RYKE & S77th-GOYA for their tireless efforts helping admin the lomacleague.

Sounds interesting. Can`t beat a bit of competition between squads. Infact took part in one, 169th v EPA. Best flying experience I`ve ever had whilst flying Lock-On.

I think the fact that there is so few people on LOMACleague is not because the community that is fading but rather due to other reasons.

Personaly I never participated in it for a couple of reasons:

1)Im a merc pilot and it apears to be mainly for squad matches

2)I have no fixed timetable for my RL right now and cant book any match in advance with certain Ill attend, or if my preferred wingmates or oponents will either. if they miss Ill basicaly be screwed over or the match simply doesnt happen.

Its a bit complicated for large meets also since theres always someone or someppeople who dont show up. If it was a bit of a more spontaneous kind of event and score tracking system like we have on 504, it woudnt never have faded off.

How to achieve this? I have no Idea, and I reckon it wouldnt be easy to come up with a solution. A bit of imagination is required.

Edit: What iff you guys establish an algo that detects wich are the participants at the lobby at the sart of the match and tracks their scores per match, makes tables of total team scores and/or individual scores over time.

This way we could avoid booking matches but arranjing them on the fly as people apear on HL. That would make it hassle free.

1 - There is a ladder for lone wolf pilots

2 - Matches don't have to be planned, if you see someone in HL you want to challenge, you may do so. The difference is that someone doesn't have to accept a spontaneous challenge. If one is formally challenged ahead of time, he must accept, but he gives the options for the time of the match.

It wouldn't make sense to track results. There are too many times when rounds must be replayed, as agreed by both players.

689 pilots

2537 A2A kills

3743 A2G kills.

VVS504 Lomac Server looks like a trendy ladder since Zorlac made that real-time stats system.

I think that lomac still is a rising community.

Yeah. But funny enough it started to change peoples habits of playing online. At least on that server.

You mean like crashing yourself into the ground and saving the k/d ratio or you mean the pilots on top of the list being afraid to play again and waste their perfect k/d ratio :icon_supe .

Since I opened this post the number of players in the 1 vs. 1 ladder already more than doubled.

Keep it coming, there´s fun to be had!

Unfortunately the Team Fightersweep ladder had to be cleaned out due to inactivity of some teams.

So, all you famous squads, VVS504, =RAF=, 44th, ADI, RvE, 4c, C6, 33rd, 159th, 169th and others,

regroup and rejoin the ladder for setting up your squadwars!

The S77th sat on the throne for long enough, someone kick them off now...;)

a big Salute to TAW :icon_pidu

One thing that is really fun in a lomac league match is that you will NEVER see anyone ditch their plane to avoid a bad stat record , people fight to the end with honor .
