Hey All,

A Couple of us have been playing more of DCSW lately mostly enjoying the FC3 series of planes.. Well we were flying a mission I picked the SU-25T with the ARM Missiles and Fantasmagoria on the plane, well there where some ZSU-23-4 Shilkas in the area an I was unable to get a ARM lock on them..

I picked up the SAM sites no Problems including the Tunguska but not the Shilka.. Now since the Shilka Has a Radar guidance I thought the ARMS would be able to lock them up or am I missing something??

They more then likely where emitting as they where engaging my buddy in a A-10a but nothing on the Fantasmagoria??

Is this a Bug??

Latest Patch and all updated on my PC..

They do pick up the Shilka, just very close range. Usually once you are very close to firing range. I have used it though and sometimes managed to get a Vihkir or the laser guided rocket on them.

Not sure if Phantasmagoria has tuned on ZSU-23-4 search / fire control radar frequency, but, 1RL33 RPK-2 (Gun Dish) search / acquisition range of Shilka has 20 km, 13 vs A-4 / F-105 / Mig-21 (By SamSimulator Docs)

the Phantasmagoria in the game will pick up the shilka

it has to target you just as expert has said.

to defeat them here is a sequance that works well...

when looking for shilkas turn ETS on and cuple the tv to it. also have lunch over ride engaged. lock target turn ets off release weapon...

i found the kh-25ml to be the best for this... vhikirs are exelent too! s-25l are a bit of an overkill and they have a very limited lunch zone.

also if you use LA over ride and cuple the tv to ets you will get a time counter to impact... and the laser will turn on automaticly...just dont forget to turn it off...

Anti-radiation missiles have their radio receivers and software optimized for known high value threats, meaning radar guided SAMs. For the most part they aren't meant to be used against AAA.

The phantasmagoria pod is large, and so it can pack in enough hardware to deal with a wider range of radio frequencies, so it can pick up AAA guidance radar at very long ranges.

In general if faced with AAA or IR/EO short range SAMs your toolkit is going to be some mix of Kh-25 ML, Kh-29T, Vhikr, and Kh-29L. Bombs, rockets and guns are also potentially an option if you have excellent skills, a very precise HOTAS input device, and are slightly crazy.

If labels are turned off and you've got phantasmagoria pod on it can be very useful for helping spot groups of units defended by radar guided AAA. I sometime leave Vulcans alone so that I can use them as a marker so I can easily find and destroy the units that they are supposed to be defending.

For the most part AAA isn't that dangerous unless there are enough to saturate an area. Tungaska and Gepard are the only ones you have to exercise some real caution around. The 35mm cannons have a substantially longer reach than 23mm ones do, and a burst can easily be as damaging as a SAM hit. I find they're a hazard out to as much as 4 km, the small caliber stuff you can typically get inside of 2 km and still be ok as long as you maneuver.

Callsign "Auger". It could mean to predict the future or a tool for boring large holes.

I combine the two by predictably boring large holes in the ground with my plane.
