Hello, I waned to check a few things with a friend so I created a mission and run a server. Whenever he tries to connect he gets this "can't connect" error. I sent him my mission file so we can check if I can connect to him but the same situations occur. Additionally he can't see my mission file in mission selecting tab. Any ideas. Thank you.

I blame the south pole penguins.

You really need to provide more information than this to determine the cause and nature of the problems you guys are having.

Provide steps and settings taken in an as condense story as possible with a technical approach. Beginning, plot, end.

Also provide files that cause the problems and error logs.

Without this information you can blame it on anything we can think of. All information you're looking for is already around in the sticky's and manual. When you really look into it, it's very likely possible you find the problem yourself. Also be aware that unintentional human error during standard procedure could play a part in one or more problems.

Same problem here. Can't host DCS anymore since they removed LAN function in 1.2.6. Never could host without it.

Server is set to public, everybody has the latest version and they can see the server but they get "can't connect" messege. I am behind a Mil-Sm801G switch, so ports aren't the problem. I even tried using router and opening the 10308 port but it didn't solve anything.

What other data do you need?

You might try the Saved Games / DCS folder rename (call it DCS1 and let DCS re-write it next time you start the game).

You may need to re-input some of your particulars but it'll be enough to see if it even works- if not- just delete the new DCS folder and return your DCS1 folder to DCS)

Linx,

you may want to look at the windows firewall. you will have to open the udp port on it also. I do the program exe just to be safe. A test would be to turn off the window firewall, also Virus software sometime come with firewalls.

my only other thought would be to change the port when hosting the mission to say 30111 or similar and open UDP 30111 on router to the Lan ip of your computer, also open 30111 on local computer.

these are just suggestions that may help.

thanks

Did anyone figure out what is causing this problem? My entire group is having the same issue since the latest update and none of us have changed anything on our machines since before the update.

We can connect and fly in any of the servers that are set up already but we cannot set up our own server and either see it or connect directly to the ip. We were able to do so before the latest update.

What is wrong with hosting in this game?

The game is "smart" enough and is able to use UPnP to autoconfigure your routers port forwarding. If for some reasons happens a firewall or any other change occurs so that UPnP did not managed to do its job then is time to take some actions. Also be sure you router is UPnP compliant and have this option active.

Best and the straightforward one is to manually publish your port forwarding in router. Keep track about the IP address recieved by your machine via DHCP and if the case just set this manually too.

Abburo, thanks for the info. Now can you give us non technical computer novices a step by step to fix the problem? Thank you in advance.

Deacon- it's probably a problem specific to the server you're trying to connect to- if you can all connect to other servers but not your own.

Start with the simple things first:

Delete / rename DCS folder in user / saved games on the server computer.

Run a "repair."

Other things that can be causing issues pertain to router configuration (ensure both UDP and TCP are open on 10308 and actually open to the right IP on the internal network).

Firewall is another consideration and just make sure that DCS is in the exclusion list.

Version mismatch is a possibility given the recent patches... but is less likely now given that it's quite some time since the patch came out and everyone should be on the same version through auto updating.

You probably have a virus.

A virus that specifically targets my ability to host DCS and leaves everything else intact?

I don't think so.

Was more just sarcasm pointed at the fact that normally doing so (no firewall / router) would be akin to running your tongue along a handrail at a subway station.

Well, it was a last ditch effort to determine the problem.

If it would work with firewall disabled, solution would be just a few minutes away.

Was / is your connection problem related to that virtual machine issue you had before? Have you tried the ping plotter route to see if it's something somewhere else along the line blocking the traffic?

On the topic of problems connecting to the DCS World login server, I have identified that DCS World uses the following ports to contact the authentication server:

TCP to 178.32.247.144 port 443 (causes "can't connect to server" if blocked)

TCP to 176.31.233.120 port 5222 (causes hang in "connecting to server" if blocked)

Thereafter it uses UDP packets to get the list of servers, and to communicate between the players and their game-server , primarily to port 10308, though I seem to see some packets going to 10307, 10309, 10310 and even 10312 occasionally.

Hope this is of assistance!

Eno,

I did all that you suggested but still a no go. The sad thing about it is that others in my squad who had servers up and running before the latest auto update, also can't get their games to show on the server list and we can't connect to each other's servers.

All games are authenticated and have the latest update. Nothing has changed on any of our ends. the only change has been the latest update. I did the repair but still no help. I renamed the DCS folder - no help. The 10308 port was opened and checked - no go.

We don't understand it but it seems that many others have the same problem.

We can connect the the servers that are listed.

If any of you who have servers up and running that we can connect with, can offer any suggestions for what you might have done, it would be appreciated.

No, the problems appeared way before I started using VPN, about a year ago, to bypass the problem with hosting DCS, but LAN option has since been removed.

I didn't know about ping plotter route, will try it now.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Just and update to the problem which is now corrected. While I still had my router (Netgear) connected originally and had the ports opened, when Comcast installed my new gateway modem, I was informed that the router in that modem would not be activated. But it was and needed to have the 10308 port opened. In addition, my antivirus also also needed to allow TCP and UDP going to that port. Once that was corrected, my server appeared and my squad mates could enter it at will.
