With the announcement of Leatherneck's multi-crew and 'Jester' WSO AI, this is now feasible.

I wonder what hurdles there would be for strategic bombers now that the multi-crew is sorted. Is having a massive array of avionics as simple as just adding more functions or does everything start to feed into each other making it super complex? With that many devices wouldn't a few be classified making it incomplete?

here's something else to think about along the same lines......flyable refuelers. The men and women who have dedicated their service while flying those beasts are often overlooked and the service they provide is extremely valuable! I'd love to see a full function kc-135 or russian equivelant. just food for thought.

I have 22 years flying on KC-135 and KC-10 Tankers...I'd like to bring everyone in on a little secret...It's BORING!. Don't get me wrong...It was a great career and I'd go back in a second but as a flight sim, it would be like watching paint dry. Take for example our missions during Kosovo and Allied Force in 1999.

We'd take off from Germany and fly 2-3 hours just to get to the A/R tracks over the Adriatic Sea. We'd Orbit for 4-6 hours. If we were lucky, (Or unlucky depending on your point of view) WE got force extended by KC-135s leaving the area a couple of times and we'd see 6-10 sets of receivers for maybe 30-45 actual refueling time...then we'd fly home.

Not sexy, Not glamorous but VERY important... But definitely not something a sane person would want to spend their evenings doing after a hard day at work.

Thanks for the thought though... Its nice to know someone out there is aware of the Tankers and what we bring to the fight.

Would this equally apply to say multi crew attack helicopters? (eg. Apache/Cobra/Tiger/etc)

That's more action than flying across the sea in FSX, I don't think you'll have a problem finding people willing to pay for this.

Don't count on it. Most people, me included, will never get to fly big iron IRL, so I'm pretty sure there're plenty of folks out there (me included) who'd be interested in doing it virtually just to see how it feels like.

But yeah, since you mentioned it; skippering, say, a virtual AC-130A Spectre would probably be even _more_ fun than droning around the Caucasus in a tanker ;)

even though sierra99 is right, i would also like to have non combatants.

in fact, the following:

- S-3 Tanker

- E-2 AWACS

tanker flights in real life might be long, but for a normal mission it wouldnt be more than 2 hours from my falcon experiance, most flights where done in that time, and the tanker would have time to get onto its track.

much likely the same with an E-2, get it in game, add a second seat for a radar operator with enhanced AWACS screen ingame, perfect for a mission commander. again, i and a lot folks i know, liked to do human AWACS in falcon.

both airframes would have other benefits/challenges, take off and landing on a carrier i.e. :D

i would love to have both, but E-2 a bit more ;)

RR

+1 for the S-3B Viking. I worked on that platform for a number of years and it was a lot more than just a tanker. It had the best surface search radar at the time in the form of the APS-137 ISAR radar, JTIDS and a very good ESM set. The S-3B had the capability to launch AGM-84 Harpoon/SLAM, AGM-65 Maverick, ADM-141 TALD, Mk-82/83/84, Mk-46/50 Torpedoes, Mk-20 Rockeye, Mk-60 CAPTOR, Mk-62/63/64 Quickstrrike, Mk-65 and Mk-56. It also had great range and loiter as demanded by the original ASW mission. It was not a great tanker though because it's total fuel load was only about 9500lbs which, with exception to the H-60's was the smallest fuel load of any platform on the boat. It was a decent recovery tanker though so that's what it was used for. First fixed wing off the deck and last back on at the end of the night. As a final checker, I hated the yo-yo tanker sorties and absolutely loved the Sea Dragon missions in the gulf. Yo-yo's were launched on one cycle and as would be back immediately in the next recovery and made for a lot of frantic work to turn around to launch again in a really small timeframe. Sea Dragon missions would launch out double bubble and be gone between four to six hours running up and down the coast of Iran doing maritime reconnaissance and probing response times of their air force.

Here's a nice pic I found on the web of a weapons det we did from Atsugi when I was with VS-21. Location is the CALA at K-bay HI in, I believe 2000. Was a very memorable det... don't use a coconut for a football... it really hurts!

The ES-3A Shadow would be nice as well:
