junae Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 I know is a noob question, but I'm a bit lost in this subject... ;) What exactly will be Tank Killers, will it be a flight or a tank sim? It's already scheduled for release? Is it the same project that will include the F16? Oooops, sorry for the load of questions hehe!!! ;) =FN= Six o'Clock Member of Falcões da Noite Squadron Florianopolis :: Brazil
Pilotasso Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 It will be a SIm with A-G pounders only on its original version. We still dont know if there will be Addons for it. Personaly I cant wait for the F-16 sim wich will be another product after tank killlers. on My personal View I think the F-16 should be donne NOW. If you see the online comunty frequently youll see that very few want to fly AG. Players have different intentions in Sp or MP, but this might be indicative of people preference with fast mover (multirole) fighters. .
junae Posted January 31, 2006 Author Posted January 31, 2006 But can we assume Tank Killers will be a Lockon successor? Will it use the LO engine, or ED will start from scratch on this one? Thank you friend! ;) =FN= Six o'Clock Member of Falcões da Noite Squadron Florianopolis :: Brazil
Pilotasso Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 Np, I have no Idea if its done from scratch, you have to wait for someone else more knowelegeable to answer that. Probably is not because development these days takes too much time to develop from scratch, what hapens is that new features are implemented as years go by. You may be referring to the games Graphics engine also, wich may indeed be completely new. .
airea Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 I guess it is too early even for dreaming about Tank Killers or F-16 stuff next to it... 2010 seems to be a optimistic release date for f-16 sim, under the conditions that ED would be willing to release such a product... Black Shark announced to be released for March 2006, we have only a month for that but did not have any movie or demo etc, not mentioning the naturalpoints 6dof demo... Only some screenshots...
Weta43 Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 From Olgerd in the more teasers thread talking of the 1.2 release date: "I don't think that there will be any huge (something like 4-6 monthes) shifts in the release date. Of course many depends on how the beta testing process will go." That takes it to July - September doesn't it - depending on how the Beta testing process goes ... Cheers.
192nd_Erdem Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 Yeah,I remember how "beta testing for 1.02" went, and I'm scared now :)
warthogmadman987 Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 I dont think that everyone wants to play air to air. Mostly all i play are the ground pounders!
504 Wolverine Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 Yeah, what I fear is squadrons with A2A and A2G wings will be most affected when Tankkillers and the F-16 sim is released. With no fighters proposed in tankkillers and no groundpounders in the F-16 sim as of yet. Unless there is some glimmer of hope like ED making them both compatible with each other or the same sort of a/c in each then there is no hope for us. :icon_cry: [/url]

With no fighters proposed in tankkillers and no groundpounders in the F-16 sim as of yet. AHEM, the Falcon is a great ground pounder. It doesnt fly as slow to poke the enemy past the shoulders of the allied troops but I asure you it does have lots of AG stuff to do. Plus, its not dead meat when you encounter enemy CAP's. You can actualy take revenge. .
Caretaker Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 Actually the US Air Force uses the F-16 primarily as an AG platform. The various (mainly European) air forces that also fly the Falcon have more interest in its multi-role capabilities, and by all means anything that can fire AMRAAMS should be considered a capable AA platform. But the US has better planes for that job ;) As for the question at hand, I would recommend the proven "wait and see" approach. What will be released when and with what features is not set in stone, and will most likely still change from the current plans. We've seen that with most sims, Lock On included :p And while I'll miss the current planeset in any future sim, sometimes you have to leave stuff behind if you want to move forward. 504 Wolverine Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 AHEM, the Falcon is a great ground pounder. But it ain't Russian. :p:) [/url]
Woodstock Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 And while I'll miss the current planeset in any future sim, sometimes you have to leave stuff behind if you want to move forward.I disagree. That´s as useless as re-inventing the wheel. If you want to move forward and improve, you have to build upon and carry along the good things that already worked. "For aviators like us, the sky is not the limit - it's our home!"
Caretaker Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 That's not a contradiction ;) Of course ED shouldn't dump everything and start from scratch, that would be stupid. But transferring all the flyables over to a new sim, even if the engine is built on the current one, is not really an option. Think about the Il2/FB development; there are more than a hundred flyable planes and still more coming - now a lot of people are wondering why those couldn't be transferred to Maddox' upcoming BoB sim. That one will use a new engine that is probably also building on the current one in many parts, but in the end there will be too many differences to include all of the old content. badaboom Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 I think I read somewhere in these forums that "BLACK SHARK"will be the last addon for the "LOCK ON" engine, &that "TANK KILLERS" will be a totaly new sim, can anyone confirm? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
GGTharos Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 Um, no, it was the last addon for the 'Lock On' title ... The engine is wholly owned by ED ... so yes, the next title will certainly not be called 'Lock On' ... ;) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
badaboom Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 So ........will "TANK KILLERS" be a brand new..........start from scratch game engine? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Maulkin Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 I prefer playing A2G both online and offline. :) --Maulkin Windows 10 64-bit - AMD Ryzen 9 5900X @ 3.7 GHz - 32 GB DDR4 3600MHz RAM - EVGA FTW3 RTX 3080 - Asus Crosshair VIII Hero motherboard - Samsung EVO Pro 1 TB SSD - TrackIR 4 Pro - Thrustmaster Warthog - Saitek rudder pedals - Lilliput UM-80/C with TM Cougars
GGTharos Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 So much for reading between the lines ;) No, it won't be. Why do you think this new cockpit and AFM technology is being developped? ... to drop it when the Lock On title ends? ;) Lock On is only a name, and the name is what's being discontinued. AFAIK. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda

GGTharos Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 No problem :) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
Solidburn Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 Would it be ok to request a Mi-24 Hind for Tank Killers? Since it's going to be awhile off anyway "I know Not that which you have said, but if I had medication I would (Robin Williams)" [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Shaman Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 Would it be ok to request a Mi-24 Hind for Tank Killers? Nope. ED doesn't like to do two-seaters ;) 51PVO Founding member (DEC2007-) 100KIAP Founding member (DEC2018-) :: Shaman aka [100☭] Shamansky tail# 44 or 444 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] 100KIAP Regiment Early Warning & Control officer
SuperKungFu Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 From what we heard of the forums, the story goes like this black shark will be the last addon for lock on Tank killers will be the next product. Whether it is a new engine or done from scratch we dunno. But we assume they are going to use some aspects of lock on since we are suppose to see AFM for A-10, Su-25/T, Ka-50, and maybe the apache (dunno how they are going to pull that off with 2 seaters). And F-16 and the Mig-29 sim is suppose to come afterwards of tank killers. Maybe the reason they put that off later is because of the growing competition from Falcon 4.0 and their new sim Allied Force 2, and Fighter Ops will also have an F-16. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Pilotasso Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 Chances are that FO will take so much time to got to the F-16 that B both SIM may come silmultaneously anyway. .
