DCS on a 55-inch 4K TV

Recommended Posts

Check post #162, there's a link in the quote of his post :)

I'm currently running with an Asus Ultrawide IPS monitor, driven by a single R9 280x. When I update in a year or so, I'll definitely be looking to go with a 55" 4k TV with dual cards.

I'm considering buying the LG 34" ultrawide one.

you running 1080 or 1440? wondering because of the performance. my graphics card (recently updated) is a (single) Nvidia 970

Just running a 1080 for the time being. Built my first rig just this past December and knew I'd have trouble driving a 1440 of that size with a single 280x, so in the spirit of not having to immediately upgrade my new rig I played it safe with 1080. Probably in a year or so from now I'll look into building a new rig from scratch with dual cards and 4k, but for now 1080 with the IPS monitor is more than good enough for me.

ah.. gotcha - i think we have the same one (see sig) ---- i think the reference to 55-in dimension threw me, it only comes in 50-in (can't find it in US - woulda bought it), 58-in and 65-in

love this thing ---- 4K @ 60hz + DP + chroma4:4:4

thats what did it for me

For those that haven't done so already I'd wait for the 4k tvs to advance as all the 4k tvs have very bad response time compared to the 1080p. Makes a big difference in picture quality and sense of flight so to speak.

Also if your a nvidia gpu owner you can use Dsr if you want higher res on your 1080p screen. Or just get a passive 3dtv and edid hack it so you can run full 1080p 3d in dcs world. 4k is pretty for screen shots but 3d will blow your mind or just wait for the official release of oculus rift.. Many options out their me personally I wouldn't waste the money on 4k tvs right now

I7 4770k @ 4.6, sli 980 evga oc edition, ssdx2, Sony 55 inch edid hack nvidia 3dvision. Volair sim pit, DK2 Oculus Rift.

Nice! I have the same except for the SLI setup. Just on 980 for me. Can you post some pics?

Will be away from the Sim for a while but will post some stuff when I've optimized settings. Can tell ya that I ran a single 780 with this 4k display with rates over 30 on Med settings.

I'll be interested in the SLI performance as well. My next build (winter upgrade) will allow for SLI and I am already happy with the performance of just one at 1080p. 4k and SLI 980s sounds like it might be a decent near term goal.

So are you getting good fps at 4K resolution with that setup?

Still feelin my way around but with Highways, Tobys, Rockys, Mustangs, T.Jacobs, SweetFx & others Mods and at high settings I'm seeing high 30's to low 70's.

With SweetFx off, and not to much action fps occasionally top 100.

I'll prob keep SweetFx deactivated cuz, IMO, it make things too dark and obscures details, particularly in cockpit.

JEEEEZ!! THIS is embarrassing but I just realized that my graphics settings were set up for PhysX. I HAD SLI DISABLED!!!!!

With SLI getting consistent 90's. 100+ with SweetFx disabled.

Yah, we got same Panny. Love it. In my pit, eyeballs 31" from screen.

Add sound bar with Bass whoofer that shakes your chair and you get some immersion .

Hey everybody -- apologies for going AWOL from my own thread :) for over a month now. Like Chic and SDsc0rch, I sprang for the Panasonic TC-58AX800U a few weeks ago and am absolutely loving it.

For those in the U.S., Best Buy carries them for $1999 but you can use the post office Best Buy 10% discount coupon (just ask for a moving coupon / address change packet at any post office) making my out-the-door price, for example, $1908.

I was satisfied with the 30Hz limitation of the Seiki a year ago, but now that I have 60Hz, I'm ecstatic. It really does make such an incredible difference in DCS. As for FPS, with most graphics options medium high to high in DCS, I can maintain 25-60 FPS.

As for TrackIR placement, this is indeed tricky; I had to move it from the top of my previously desk-mounted 55" to underneath my now wall-mounted 58". I've cludged together a simple solution that seems to work for now, but it ain't the prettiest -- see the [admittedly awful] second picture below.

Welcome back Greg. Was beginning to wonder why you would initiate this thread touting HD big screens, then costing me tons of money, then disappearing!

Kidding of course. This new setup has changed everything. Every spare minute is in the Huey.

Not sure why you're struggling with TrackIR. My eyeballs are 31-33" from screen surface and dead center. Visor slightly tilted upward. No prob.

BTW, your set up is pretty sweet.

Awesome. Try and shoot some footage while playing.

Any screen tearing while moving your head around?

I'm new at this Slick. That's why I just Wiki'd screen tearing. Now that I know what it is I can tell you I haven't observed it in game.

Will submit some pic/vids once I've tweaked out my setting and get Mods sorted.

Thanks for your interest.

posting my setup

overall layout - obutto pit

IMG_20141029_125318.jpg

[[ note - TrackIR is on top/center of the TV in this pic - i have since moved it to the "spine" of the obutto frame directly above the pedals and below head level --- that is working better than the "overwatch" position -- not too dissimilar from GregP's TrackIR mounting solution]]

mfg pedals - bolted to the footplate (note - OEM slots/holes do NOT line up w/ holes provided by pedals - *grumble*)

IMG_20141029_125400.jpg

[[ note the clearances around the extremes - VERY tight! must mount *perfectly* to avoid making contact w/ obutto frame ]]
