I'm experienced with other flight sims and have just purchased A-10. I have MS FF2 joystick but want to upgrade for use with A-10. Obviously the Warthog is on the list but the price is a stretch for me. There does not appear to be many used units available either. I've looked at the X-52 Pro but there seems to be some quality issues that have me concerned. I'd be most interested in hearing what people are using and if they would purchase again or go with something else.

Sorry if this has been covered else where but I'm new to the forum and haven't had time to snoop around.

Cheers

I used the X-52 (non pro) version for a year without any major issues, just needed to set up some deadzones. I saved up for the TM Warthog and have loved it ever since. The stiff spring is something to get used to but it feels like there is some feedback from the plane. It's a placebo effect but It's better than the the limp X-52. The only real complaint I have with the Warthog is the slew control but that's about the only flaw with it.

I use the CH Products Fightersick USB and CH Pro Throttle USB. There are close to enough buttons to use as HOTAS. They have great software for programing and they both seem to be pretty robust in their design and manufacture. The price was less than $200.00 as I recall. Never using anything other than extreme 3d Pro which I would not recomend due to its lack of buttons and hats for HOTAS the CH Products seem to be the best fit economically.

Well, you won't find my Warthog on eBay unless there's a truly worthy successor. So far, I haven't even heard of anything that would come close (unless we talk 4 or more digits). ;)

I've never had an X52, but I believe it's a very good choice if budget is limited. I'd rather get an X52 + TrackIR than just the Warthog without TrackIR. The Warthog is great and I love it, but head-tracking is the game-changer and I'm very satisfied with TrackIR.

Or rob a bank and get both. You won't regret it! :D

Thanks for the input. I have TrackIR which I've been using with my other sim. I just noticed that Saitek is set to release an X55 but I can't find out how it differs from the X52. The good news is a new X52 Pro can be found on ebay for $125+shipping.

BEFORE you go ahead with an X-52 purchase, watch this video by a DCS player called Ralfidude who reviewed some sticks. The X-52 will have you in tears apparently. Warthog is pricey, I found the same, so I just delayed my purchase so I could save up and I love my Warthog to pieces, so glad I bought it.

Thanks for that GC1993! What a hoot! Well I might just have to take up a Xmas collection for a Warthog.

I dont understand the hate the x52 gets. I have owned both the regular and the pro, and they are both more than adequate for the A-10. I'm sure that the TM Warthog is a fantastic improvement in quality and precision, but for $500, it damn well better had be. For a stick yo can get under $150, the x52 is excellent.

I run a 52 non pro on my backup rig and it's okay... but the biggest problem isn't necessarily the quality- it's the learning curve of the sim on top of having to learn not only what each normal Warthog HOTAS button / switch is called... but also the association with the 52 assignment. Makes learning twice as hard.

I was a bit dubious about the cost of the Warthog... but it transformed the sim experience with A-10C. I mean, LITERALLY transformed it.

Eno that is an important point in my opinion.

I would definitely use a Warthog if i could justify spending the $500. Between flight sims, golf, skiing, and photography I have way too many expensive hobbies where I could apply that $500.

I fly BS2, Huey, and A10 on an X52 Pro that's about 9 or 10 years old. There are without doubt some challenges with the button layouts and configuring the dead zones. With the age of my rig it's more twitchy than most and has some rather large deadzone set, but it without a doubt gets the job done nicely.
