I remember hearing about the competition between this and the F-22. Hard to believe this was in the early 90's. Boy time has flown!! This video is a pretty good look into the program and what could have been. I personally preferred this over the F-22 because of the radical, sleek look. Would have been nice to see this make it to production.

People like to make this implication, but the truth is that the USAF chooses aircraft according to their own specifications.

The F-23 also had issues which caused it not to be chosen - in some cases, technology that was too risky/not mature enough (some of which the F-22 uses today BTW), a bay that was too small, and probably at least somewhat inferior dogfighting ability.

Stealth performance is undoubtedly addressed.

My understanding, although it is one point of concern, was the agility at low speeds. The F-22 was said to be superior, due to the thrust vectoring of course.

Yeah...but if COOL could win a war...this thing would be the best tool for the job.....

AGREED!!

Nice!! Maybe we can get a FC level version of this one day. ;)

An FC version of a static display aircraft?

C'monn GG...of course a flyable version, although I know it's highly unlikely though. :)

You want a flyable version of an unarmed fly-off competitor with no combat avionics whose flying characteristics are not the least bit known? :)

I understand that appeal, but how about an F-22 so you can shoot something down at least and make a few people whine about how unfair and n00bish it is? ;)

I know I knowwww. Hence the wink when I mentioned it.

If it was possible to introduce something into DCS on the level of "best guess" for example Jane's Combat Simulations: Advanced Tactical Fighters, then I would say yes I would like to see this flyable.

Why is it not possible? ED not wanting to do it is one thing, but it certainly could be done if they so desired.

You either do, or do not, want an aircraft with made up flight characteristics.

Well Here's an Idea, since Wind Tunnel Data is next to Nil.

Build a Scale Model in 3ds Max, and Pay $3400 for the Windtunnel Plugin.

Bam, Wind Tunnel Data.

Can work with other Aircraft as well. Laser Scan them into 3ds Max, Set parts, weight, internal structures (framing etc), Use Wind Tunnel Plugin place model in Wind Tunnel, Gather Data.

As for FCS and other Avionics, You're out of luck.

I don't want made up flight characteristics. Which is why if this were to happen, I'd hope for something along the lines of what Skate suggested. There's no reason why you can't get aero data on an untested aircraft.

I may be wrong, but from what I gathered in the video, there is aero data, but still highly classified. So yeah it still goes back to what Skates suggested.
