  1. Hi all. Since I posted in the tech section about my new TH2Go set-up, I received a pm yesterday from JimMack (ED team) who suggested me to post this type of how-to for the benefit of all. First I must say that those who found really how to do are Joe, ggg87 and Teka Teka, summed up by Ratcatcher. I didnt find anything, just applied it succesfully! (see at the end of post for detailed instructions) Here is the final product : or my own loading screen in 3840x1024 Now, in order to use Matrox TripleHead2Go in those very wide resolutions with LOFC one has to fix a few things in various config and .lua files. It is really simple but one has to know what to do. There still remains one unsolvalbe problem, with the actual LOFC code, it is not possible to play at 3840x1024 and zoom out very much. You end up naturally zoomed in with your nose in the windshield and you need to manually zoom out at the start of every mission. The drawback is that, even with a great comp and graphics card, when played zoomed out all the way, with the demands of such resolution, your FPS will drop dramatically. As pointed already by several others, the way to go is to zoom out all the way and then zoom back in a little until you get a good balance between being confortable and having a good fluidity. The other aspect is that playing a simulator on a TH2Go setup is a totally different experience than anything I had seen, even on a big monitor. It takes some time getting used to it : 1) you are much more zoomed in therefore all the details, either from the cockpit or from the outside world become MUCH bigger (and in my opinion much closer to reality). For example, even if you only see a small photo here, in my first picture, the HUD of the A-10 is 6x5 inches onscreen and the VVI has a diameter of almost 2 inches and still, there is a bit less than ONE FOOT of scenery on both sides of the cockpit!!!!!!!:D 2) Your field of vision becomes much bigger BUT much more horizontal (3 screens wide, only one high : some may like it or not...) which means that you will play around with your y view axix much more searching the skies for ennemies (especially looking up). 3) It is almost compulsory, in my opinion, to play this kind of setup with Trackir because of the increasing space to look at... I had to ajust my curves to accelerate my head motion in the up direction very much. I would recommend not using the Z axis with this because of the zoom problem mentionned above. 4) Because of the zoomed in problem, there is no way to see the full HUD and the instruments at the same time (as I always did before, since the first days of Flacon and then Lockon...). My solution was to set up a very sophisticated set of snapviews for each cockpit and program a direct link for each of then in the HAT of my Joystick, therefore I can look at the radar of my F-15 or the RWR of my MIG or the TV of my maverick very very quickly and come back to the normal moving Track IR view with the press of one button... 5) It is easy to replace the awful looking loading screen with a photo of your choice in 3840x1024 but harder to do so for the individual loading screens for each airplanes, since they are in .dds formal (which requires a special program), but possible. On the other hand, there is nothing to do about the GUI which looks really bad and stretched (but who cares? who really spends any time in the GUI?) 6) the map is another problem, though, since it is not only stretched very large (and one has to travel a lot with the mouse to perform all commands of the editor since one has to choose say a aircraft on the left side and then put its parameters on the right side) but also it is deformed where horizontal distances dont geometrically equal vertical distances (but I got used to it). But... Once you get through paying for it... and setting it up correctly, once you forget about stretched GUI and splashscreens, once you have your TrackIR curves accelerated to help your view move around, once you have all your snapviews programmed to help you focus instantaneously on the instruments that you need, then... you fire up a mission and you end up flying amost for real... the sky is really big, the details fo the runway, the lights of the cities at night, the rolling forests and mountains are magnificent and you fly through smoke and explosions and still have the rest of the landscape on both sides... it is amazing and compares to nothing I have experienced short of being in a real aircraft (sorry I have never flown an F-15 bot still, a nice little Katana with a bubble canopy, unfortunatly at 100 knots, is really nice:):) And you can also enjoy all the extra desktop space for all other computer things and programs... You can drag things all over the place and really have lots of opened windows at once... Here is a screenshot taken directly in 3840x1024... it was a really bad night... Imagine this with almost 4 feet of viewing... Cheers:smilewink: JEFX ------------------------- Detailed instructions to set up the config and lua files for TH2Go as summed up for me by RATCATCHER (thanks to him!)

  3. Hello everybody. I made this swich recently and I came here to report so that everybody considering am upgrade to get an idea what they will get. I had my Q6600 at 2.66Ghz (from 1066 to 1333 FSB and multi lowered from 9 to 8 ), versus my Q9550 stock, i.e. practicaly negligeble clock difference. 3Dmark 2006 went from 14500 to 15400, CPU mark was from 4200 to 4800. Supreme commander went up from 54 FPS average to 57...(linear with the clock difference) I confess I was expecting more here. In LOMAC I saw an FPS increase from 0 to 10FPS, about 5 on average when using the same online missions. This has been a mixed bag of benifits. Because the A-10 solo quick start mission didnt yeld any improvments for example. At least it apeared so at first... But get this: Now I can use full cockpit zoom out at nice playable frame rates when with the Q6600 had heavy stuttering and bitterly UMPLAYABLE frame rates on a 22" inch monitor. WOW...what explains this? On one side the FPS in a given heavily loaded mission might be the same on default view but with a wider point of view gives me much better perfomance than on my "old" CPU... Not only that, I now enjoy FPS immunity for much longer when in multiplayer. Infact in 1 week since I bought this CPU I have never needed to reaload the mission to get playable FPS again. Was it worth it? for me a price tag of 280 Euro considering my fav hobby...yes, but for others that play FPS games that are GFX bound the difference might be nill... Anyone considering a machine now to play DCS I definalty give my advice for a CPU of this latest revisions with a 12MB (or 6Mb per 2 cores) L2 cache over 8Mb on the Q6600(or 3Mb on duals). it seems to be the perfomance secret weapon responsible behind the differences I observed. Anything outside CPu intensive applications will not benifit at all from a new core 2 CPU of similar clock. In these later cases I advice a c2d like the E8600 for humongous overclocks with water cooling ( I dont recommend to make the CPU change on air cooling). I will report my Overclock of this quad later.

  5. The only reason why anyone should stick with an nforce chipset would be to use the SLI technology. THe Nvidia chipsets past 680i have issues with playing mpegs, which means they get corrupted while playing, youll get a blue screen, and get pissed like I do. I know, I had that problem on my old Asus P5N-E and my current MSI P7N Platinum. Granted they are few and far between, its irritating when I get BSODs. If Intel made SLI compatible boards I would go there.

  6. Hello Rattler, Yes you got it right - you need to add them under "fortifications" in the Meinit. Remember that this needs to be done in two places in the Meinit - in the general "fortifications" list and again in the fortifications list under each country for which you want particular objects to be available. You can generate the necessary CLSIDs by using this utility: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=20399

  7. No problems. As you can see the original object was divided into two separate objects in this scene. Notice how it has effected the shading. You can explore the normals editing by unifying the handles etc and see the effects.

  10. Unhappy with the released info on the jets? :) hit yourself with a wooden bat on the head and then re-read wags post. Youll be as happy as the first time you read it. ;) Make sure you write the URL on a post it before using the bat. :D

  12. Yes split the fuselage in two and if it breaks the smoothness you’ll have to edit normals. You can have many objects with the same material but you can’t have more than one material IDs assigned to one object for lom models.

  14. Hello All Some fresh news (06-25 and 07-09) about AdA Mod Thanks to Az' for original french post here Nothing revolutionist to be announced for this update (not yet…), not either new screenshots, but "just" small advance points : - The SEM is in its hangar. There remain some blows of adjustable open-end wrench to be made above, then painting of course. - Mirage IV is ready for its roll-out - The Mirage F1 C & CR are good for the service. The CT is again in painting job - The Mirage 2000 single-seater is currently used as test plan with the CEAM (Center d'Experimentation Aérienne by MajorBug) with of course BarbsMan as a large creative director. Some other news sooner. - The Mirage 2000 two-seater awaits the results tests on his little brother single-seater to solidify his configuration. Barbs is creating the template from single-seater's template. - The Jaguar is nearly finished (approximatively 90%) .... we were close to the end, and an error in the 3D and an idea for damage model improvement (enough fine, since on slot of Su-25) were found. Return in workshop, therefore, we hear some blows of hammer and remote insults, but not more news that. - Airone and its Gadget .... a long love story :D modification of the mapping for an easier skinning, template improvement, pylons creation, nav lights, pictures based mapping for cockpit, Ada Mod special animations ... and a 100% real new skin, la "million d'heures", the "million hours" for little story, the French alphajet celebrate this year its 1 million flight hours … "French Air Force had requested" (not exactly, but it's easier to explain :D) from the "Tators Fan Club " to create a special camo. And one aircraft had been painted and this camo is raised by the official gadget solodisplay pilots. Airone will use this skin for the VFAT show (and he already used it during virtual presentation at the Meeting national de l'Air on the Dijon Air Base, in front of its true pilot, who has been charmed :)) (see the real plane : here) And some "PAF" skin screens ;) have a nice day :joystick::pilotfly:

  15. Hi Fahrenheit007, there is no current beta testing on the v2, it's too early : We have still a lot to do on the "dev" side, and due to personnal reasons, it doesn't go that quick. "Lentement mais surement" (slowly but surely) is a french proverb well adapted at this time... Anyway, don't hesitate to register on the AdA project web site & say hello to the admins / modders ;) Not at this time, le "A" isn't finished yet. I'm not sure the UK versions'll be included in AdA mod v2. Textures won't be an issue, but the 3D shape, payloads & (engine) performances are really different between French et British Jags... We've chosen to replace the Su-25 (Vanilla) with the French Jaguar A but I'm not sure it's the best choice for the British ones... Anyway, even if eventually it doesn't fit in the AdA mod, I guess we'll find a solution to release the model for British's fans  We'll come back with fresh news as soon as we can :) Cheers Az'
