Hello to all, I was recently reading a post on this forum bemoaning the KA-50's lack of a Radar Warning Receiver and just had to chime with some information on the differences in deployment of attack helicopter between east and west. The idea of using attack helicopters in a deep strike role is really an American invention pioneered in the 1980s and brought to culmination during the first gulf war. In a famous attack Apaches attacked two radar sites and opened up an air corridor for the subsequent air war in Iraq. This is a prime example of how US helicopters are employed, though of course they are not pigeon holed into such a specific method. The fact remains that the US Army views helicopter aviation primarily as giving the commander the ability to affect the battlespace behind the front lines. Russian helicopter aviation however more closely resembles the usage of attack helicopters by the United States Marine Corps in that they perform the role of close air support of troops near the forward edge of battle area and much less on striking units behind enemy lines. This is as much a doctrinal difference as it is natural progression of tactics since the second world war. Russian aviation has always been a product of tactics used in WWII where aircraft were utilized in a support role to troops on the ground, whereas American airpower has been heavily influenced by the strategic bombing campaign. Of course the changing face of combat in the past decade is heavily influencing tactics on both sides, the basic ideas reflect an institutional difference how each side aproaches the same battlefield. Of course, thats just my 2 cents.2 points

I present you a little dusk mission with edited screenshots. Sorry for the bad gradients in some of the pics. I didn't realize how bad the compression of Black Shark's screenshot function is before it was too late. Next time I'm gonna use an external program.1 point

Not sure what I think about the subject. NWO?? :wassat: http://oai.dtic.mil/oai/oai?verb=getRecord&metadataPrefix=html&identifier=ADA284548 Abstract : This study examines current U.S. Army attack helicopter doctrine, tactics, techniques, and procedures (DTTP) to determine their adequacy in supporting the full range of attack helicopter employment in the multi-polar environment of the New World Order (NWO). Using the Attack Helicopter Battalion (ATKHB) as the basis, this study determines those missions U.S. Army attack helicopter units will likely perform in carrying out Army operations doctrine, as well as the doctrinal qualities that would facilitate effective and efficient employment of the ATKHB in executing NWO mission requirements. This study concludes that present U.S. Army attack helicopter DTTP only marginally meets the requirements for employment in support of the full range of Army operations doctrine. This conclusion is based on a lack of versatility and flexibility within current doctrine and on the lack of tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs) and evaluative criteria to fulfill doctrinal employment. These shortcomings are attributed to a highly centralized command and control system, an almost exclusive focus on the employment of the ATKHB in a maneuver role in a mid-to-high intensity armor-rich environment, and a comparatively narrow focus on TTPs and mission training at the execution level. http://www.dtic.mil/cgi-bin/GetTRDoc?AD=ADA284548&Location=U2&doc=GetTRDoc.pdf1 point

I agree ... not everyone is going to be happy. I, for one, am not happy with the Black/White version. I bit-the-bullet and printed my own color copy. BUT I WILL buy the manual from ED to support their efforts. And that's what we need to promote here. The camaraderie in the flight sim community is much different then any other and it should extend to the developers who gave us this title. It's a Russian Helicopter for cryin'out-loud. The manual with it's Russian pictures shouldn't deter you. Hell, you can barley make them out in pics anyhow. Be careful ... you might learn something too ... :book: ... a little Russian. .1 point

I want to see WHATEVER A/C DCS is offering next, NOT what the general public wants in a vote. Voters always seem to vote 50/50 anyway because PEOPLE can never make up their damn minds or one half ALWAYS disagrees with the other HALF. Lets let the experts do their jobs at building what they want to; if they wanted our opinion, then they would have already asked :drink:1 point

I'm sorry if this has already been said (in a hurry, didn't bother to read the whole thread  ), but when a gaming magazine reviews a sim, you have to approach in differently. One one hand, you have reviewers who probably view something like Crysis as the standard for graphics. They may feel that such an endeavor as learning the Ka-50 requires a lot more hand-holding than what we'd expect -- "RTFM!". Remember how many newbies you've seen who don't understand the idea of "processor-intensive". I know since I was one of them. Sims are totally opposite than other PC games in terms of CPU vs. GPU. OTOH, you have a good glimpse of how an average PC gamer might approach Black Shark and what they might think of it. This is useful in many ways, like figuring out how to make the sim more user-friendly. One thing I agree with is that the tutorials need some work. They are far from useless, but eventually there really does need to be a bit more hand-holding. I have hopes that a new system will eventually be developed where the tutorials are truly tutorials -- you perform all the actions while you are guided on what to do, step by step. The entire sim doesn't move on to the next step until you've successfully accomplished the current step. Don't "spawn" that SA-10 SAM until I've actually figured out how to ready my HARMs and know how to target it! You both have to take such reviews with a grain of salt and also view them as an opportunity to see what the average Joe thinks.1 point

I am writing this message because I not only feel obligated, but also, because I would like to offer an apolgy to everyone following this thread. After some deep thinking, but most importantly, after some really good 'talks' with Triggerhappy69, this will be my last post in this thread. I am doing this in part because of a rather nasty message left by someone. Thankfully Acedy edited out the offending remarks. Since the thread was re-opened speculations concerning Urze have run rampant. This is wrong. And I feel in part responsible for this happening because I have been the most 'vocal' person in this thread. And I let my frustrations, and yes, at times, anger, get the best of me. When that occured I wrote some rather nasty speculations labeling Urze, among other things, a scammer and thief. That was totally uncalled for, and, I believe, only helped to 'fuel the fire'. Anger is a basic human emotion. We all experience it, but, it is how we deal with it that matters. So setting my emotions aside, I read Triggerhappy's post again. This time I understood the point he was trying to get through to "all of us". I also knew my 'gut reactions' to be inappropriate. I then spent a good deal of time reading many of the 'hundreds' of posts written by Urze, (a great deal of them in Triggerhappy's popular thread; " Uuuuaaah..! I have started building now..!" In all of his messages he offered his knowledge, help, and assistance to many members of this forum, (myself included). And as I read them I also gathered the joy Urze has with this, (our) hobby. He has helped many people, and, made many friends in the process. So I can see how it is indeed puzzling for him to suddenly stop communicating. Over the past several days I have been in contact with Triggerhappy. I told him I now understand the point he was making, and, I apologised for my shortsightedness. We have been trading some really good talks back and forth, and, I have made a new friend. So thanks Triggerhappy, and, definately +1 rep for him! In closing, I would like to thank all of the people who have offered their assistance to me. I do hope one of Urze's friends is able to contact him, and, I do hope all is well. Of course he is not a scammer, and, he didn't run off to some exotic island. It isn't THAT much money. It also makes no sense whatsoever. My final thought is that perhaps this thread should be closed. It is serving no purpose other than people speculating. But it was one thoughless, cruel speculation, (edited out) that has made me re-think everything. So this will be my last post in this thread. I wish everyone 'good flying', and, thank you.1 point

The link I posted above in #63 is down, the whole domain is also down, when that link is back up, read that link I posted with caution, IIRC Grishna, a Serbian commander, explains the tactics deployed that led to the destruction of the F-117.1 point

DPS generally comes up with something side-splittingly funny around Xmas time and April 1st. It kinda reminds me of something I made many years ago when I was an student in Manchester living in a house decorated in a style that I can best describe as late Victorian squalor. We had a mouse problem, so a piece of vero-board (picture below if you dont know what vero-board is) connected straight to the 240v mains - alternate strips live and neutral. A small piece of chees resting on some clingfilm in the centre. The mouse steps onto the vero-board and POW. We found one mouse more than 3 feet away!! True Story. Luckily for the Electronic Engineering world, I moved into Software instead.1 point

Even some TrackIR users find NaturalPoints policy regarding the interface to be monopolism. How can you? Do you have both? Good for you. If you are willing to spend what in my opinion is a shitload of money for something that is not that competitive, you can do so. The part of us who have to rely on a rather finite amount of money to spend on a hobby are able to find a true alternative in FreeTrack. Sry for OT btw :music_whistling:1 point

I've never said stealth was infective. All of my discussion about the stealth and the shoot down of F-117 was summarized in that report. Line by line .... So I am happy. And I am sure we will be returning to that report, line by line, and discuss it.1 point

Ok I have successfully tested it :) Blue was given airfield Simferopol. AMRACT and LUA(lrm) both detected this. Then I blew up the supporting trucks at Simferopol. Lua exported these events and AMRACT detected that this respawn airfield was no longer available, and since I only gave blue one respawn airfield it also said "Blue lost respawn airfield Simferopol" "Blue Lost all their respawn airfields!" "Red win the mission, the mission rotates" -- and then the mission rotated. In a situation where many respawn fields exist it would say "Blue lost respawn airfield Simferopol" "Blue can now only respawn at ...... " (as usual loading in at airfields that are no longer active, your engines don't spool) Or in a situation where it's just a farp "Blue lost farp Simferopol" "Blue now have farps : " (the result of landing at illegal/inactive farp or illegal/inactive respawn airfield can be observed in lrm 2.0 demo video ;)) If new supply/fuel trucks drive up to a *dead* airfield it will say "BLUE supplies arrive: Blue respawn airfield ..... is now active again!" or farp : "BLUE supplies arrive: Blue farp ..... is now active again!"1 point
